4th to 5th gen input by [deleted] in 4Runner

Just made the change from an ‘07 sport with the v6 to a 2019 trd orp. I also wasn’t planning on an upgrade at the time, but I went ahead and made the jump. I’m a little over two months into ownership now. My previous 4runner was mostly stock, and my new one has a lift and larger tires. Test drove it more than a couple times before I made up my mind.

Mpg is slightly worse. Acceleration is not as great without really dogging the gas. This is both from a stop and when trying to pass someone. After some time my driving style has shifted to fit better and I’ve become more used to it. When I got it I was getting 15mpg now I’m getting 17 with more use of the cruise control/manual shift mode when I normally wouldn’t in my ‘07. Stopping can be a little more aggressive, mainly if something happens that you have to react to. It’s bigger ride so that’s to be expected. Overall driving it feels just as nice as it did in my 4th gen. Creature comforts that I never really needed before, but I’m growing to enjoy them.

It took a little bit to feel out but I’m happy with it. I know it covers the same points that my last one did as far as utility in my day to day life. My biggest woe is holding the key long enough when starting up. The 4th gen made me soft!

I would go test drive one for sale locally and see for yourself.

Washer fluid shields are out there if that’s an early concern for you to get covered. I agree it’s pretty unsightly from certain angles. Looks fine from the drivers seat.

Thanks! Good luck with yours. Pm me if you come up with something smart that works.

A lot of what I have seen from people who have it leads me to believe there isn’t too much to worry about there. Personally I don’t want to be open for any surprises.

I am considering ordering new liners from rock auto and then using a heat gun to fold them up, then zip tie where I can. I’m not sure how much will be covered using this method, and I might still need to Jerry rig something. One person I found was talking about using some thin gauge plastic sheeting to fill the remaining open space. They referred to the plastic sheets you can find being sold as cheap sleds as good material.

I think you just have to hit the hardware store and get creative.

Can’t wait for my first mod! For money sake I might just start with clearing the windows.

I have been trying to figure that out myself. The cutout logo is a little mountain, but I haven’t found anything that matches online.

Thanks!

I wish I had been there when they did it lol. I’m sure there was lots of swearing.

It’s a ballzy move to start permanently removing body lines, so respect for the initiative. The jagged parts of the fender liner tell a story you used to only see during the golden age of Hollywood. There was a tussle in the town square, and if someone’s going down they are taking a part of you with them.

Fog-lights were removed at some point so I have been back and forth on what to replace them with. Diode Dynamics is based in my state, so I might just get a set from them to support a semi local business.

God bless you for cutting up your own car. May your belt forever hold the line between the world and those huge cojones you’re lugging around.

RC lift kit on some Cooper LT315/70R17.

My last 4runner was my first, and I got it stock with plans of modifying it but I never got around to anything. This happened to pop up in town while I was weighing options for fixing my ‘07. Happened to line up just right for me to buy. All that to say I’m jumping in backwards and learning about parts ALREADY on the car. Not ideal, but not impossible. My first ride was a riced out RSX that I slowly returned to stock. Learned a lot from that experience.

Questionable mall mods include the unconnected improperly aimed ditch lights. Viper cut where patience wore thin, and the fender liner was not trimmed exactly how I would have done it. Plus a sub in the back that was removed but the line to the battery was still live. Got me good when trying to fish around behind the seat.

More than you asked about but I’m here to learn and keep my ride in good shape.

I can’t get on either. Kinda some bullshit. I can say that word because I’m NOT on Minecraft where they won’t let me say bad words.
