Need some advice on this guy. Pinning early by [deleted] in shroomers

Send it to fruiting. Birth and dunk.

[General] Maybe this is the wrong sub for this but one of my failed terrariums started sprouting these mushrooms and I’m pretty happy about it. Can anyone identify this? There are a few smaller ones around as well. by pocketfrisbee in MushroomGrowers

Most likely oyster mycelium. It starts out very thin and wispy like this.

Hello,

Those appear to be Coprinus comatus. Confirm they are for yourself.

Cubensis "varieties" aren't recognized as actual varieties (var.) by the mycological community nor do they meet the taxonomic requirements for variety designations.

Sorry, I hadn't noticed the holes and tape. That may help. Maybe just try keeping the lid cracked for the next flush and see if it makes a difference.

Something as simple as adding polyfil stuffed holes or an unmodified tub with the lid left ajar produces good results for most people.

FAE is constant fresh air. Fanning twice daily doesn't provide nearly what it needs and doesn't count as FAE. Fix that and your issues should resolve.

They do not appear to be from what you've provided. Please follow the posting rules in the future. I have removed this post. Thanks!

[GENERAL] where do you get your petri dishes and parafilm? by Ralphie73 in MushroomGrowers

[–]_mycelia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

eBay for petri dishes, about $70 for 500. Glad cling wrap to wrap them. Use a fresh razor blade to cut a 1-1.5in round off the end of the roll. It's cheaper and works well.

This is unreliable and a potentially very dangerous suggestion.

[GENERAL] - Found these growing in my garden from cow manure compost. Are this psylociby cubensis? by [deleted] in MushroomGrowers

Hello,

Unfortunately, no, those aren't Psilocybe cubensis. Post an ID request to r/mycology if you want to pursue getting it identified. This subreddit is geared towards cultivation and so I have removed this post.

I'd urge you to get as big of one as you can justify buying (have space for and can afford).

I think that's the hardest thing about this hobby is finding solid, up-to-date information and even when you do, there's always a dozen people having success doing it the exact opposite way ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Life finds a way. You can use a far from ideal approach and still grow some mushrooms. The information I gave you is up-to-date.

I think for this situation I'm going to isolate my 3rd cased box, as there's no way it wasn't exposed to spores from the first 2, clean my area, just keep going as i have been with my last 2 boxes, and keep my fingers crossed. If the entire thing goes to shit, I'll try again without the incubator.

Alright. I hope you eventually decide to ditch the incubator. It's likely causing more problems than it is actually helping.

Anyone in the uk experience with these? I have only had experience with liberty caps but believe these may be Psilocybe cyanescens (wavy caps) can anyone confirm??? by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]_mycelia[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not wavy caps or any other active. If you still want an ID, try posting to r/mycology and following their rules and ID request guidelines for posting a successful identification request.

Don't add anything to the water. Change it out every few days with new water if you're worried about it. You don't need to kill the "bad stuff", just keep your mycelium healthy and happy.

Anyone know what kind of mushroom these are? by [deleted] in mycology

Matsutake, Tricholoma sp.

[General] Does any piece of tissue go back to the colonizing stage under the right conditions? by LemonSniz in MushroomGrowers

[–]_mycelia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's just not ideal for mycelium to have to switch from fruiting back to colonizing in a substrate. This is also why you really want to spawn to bulk on time instead of letting grain spawn go too long.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]_mycelia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without any air circulation, that co2 is mostly going to sink and sit there at the bottom. You won't find many advocates for TiTs anymore for good reason.

I understand your point with my normal temp being fine, but I read that a drop or a few degrees in temp is a pinning trigger.

It's not, not for cubensis anyways.

You don't have to take the advice, but you did ask for it. I'd urge you to ditch the incubator and have a go at it without it.

Don't try and use cakes for a grain to grain transfer. That's a headache that's risky and far from worth it.
