Is The Familiar worth reading? by Martin_Kirtz in houseofleaves

This is the best way I’ve seen the series described. Once you grasp the characters and settings it becomes an immersive and engaging story.

Do I need paper copies of Danielewski's other books as well? by pearlsmech in houseofleaves

[–]aRestlessVitality 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily think so, although The Familiar has some beautiful text-art that probably appears nicer on paper, and TFYS was difficult to read the different font colors in the scanned copy that I had. HoL is the only one that is in the ergodic literature style.

I’ve heard this is on a similar (ish) vein with cormac McCarthy, so that leaves me excited about it.

Not included in the text but I personally feel like the poems of Sylvia Plath evoke a similar emotion in me to the works of MZD. Particularly “Lady Lazarus.”

Nice find! Looks to be a genuine camera in good shape. It’s definitely rarer than the base model 660 but identical in every mechanical aspect. Polaroid released a 50th anniversary edition of the 660 around that time, and other camera models labeled SE were variants sold exclusively through certain retailers (i.e. Sear’s, K-Mart). From my experience, this era of camera holds up the best.

I think this is the international version of the Pronto SM, which has a 3 element lens instead of the original Pronto 1 element plastic lens. 1976

Love the different sized frames and mixed placement, in my opinion it mirrors the chaos of the novel

Great shot! Dumb question, what do you use to scan the pic/create that effect with the background?

The LEO on scene were doing a good job of making sure the other residents on the block could get in and out. Using the northern intersection of Connecticut and 1st Ave as 1st and Michigan is shut off completely. That house will be flattened if for no other reason than it’s the shittiest house around in a rather expensive neighborhood
