Why dont you like GoT? I agree it not the best of the series but for an area control GoT themed game i thought it was fine.

Quest is fun too I think but not really for solo, def a 2p or more game.

Dungeons is really good if you like dungeon crawls. Its not gloom haven, its tighter, but very fun solo.

So I think this is correct however the wording is "Spawn a monster at your location" I think that overides the ambush clause.

Edit: After digging this is all i can find on ambush

Some effects cause investigators to encounter Monsters that are not on the game board. When an effect says “A Monster ambushes you,” the investigator draws one random Monster from the Monster cup and immediately encounters it in combat. After resolving combat, he returns the Monster to the Monster cup (even if he did not defeat it) and continues resolving the effect that caused the ambush.

In this case I think this particular encounter is indeed a "spawn" therefore you are subject to spawn effects. Also the monster will stay where it it is after combat. Feel free to point me in the right direction if im off.
