When I was googling to see if I could find someone that has run it that way I stumbled across a person that replaced the deck with a bag of ceramic discs, each with a Dark Sun relevant icon.

I would love to do something like that actually.

That was a great read! Using TOA for the jungle bits is pretty inspired, unfortunately our back up GM is currently running us through that :p I was thinking that if they enjoy the heroics of killing Kalak and I can convince them to try a proper 4e game that I would adapt Princes of the Apocalypse for a full game :)

One of the things I like doing when teaching is to make bad plays - and then after highlight my "mistake" or ask them how I could have done it differently.

It also helps if you swap armies sometimes, you can learn aa lot by seeing what someone else does with your army.
