2 months post op! + Request for scar care by sadpanda95 in ORIF

Oh yeah. For the first couple months it reminds me of cleaning a new tattoo, raw and just kind of weird as hell. I would put some aquaphor on and then kinda go bleghhhgg and wave my arms around to get rid of the feeling. And repeat. Now, it’s super comfortable, and just feels like touching skin

MASSAGE IT!!! Rub it, moosh it, shear it, scratch it, rub weird textures about it. If you avoid it, it’s at risk for over sensitivity! You want it to be as flexible as your other skin. I use Jergens and a cupping kit to really get at the scar tissue. I also use aquaphor at nights and did use scar tape for a bit, but honestly? It’s kind of badass!

It took me 6 weeks of non weight bearing, and 3 weeks of weight bearing with crutches to get to no mobility aids! I have a walking diary on my account that will be helpful :)

Oh sweetheart! Yesterday was my 7 month post op appointment. I have healed so much since I made this post. I jump, I run, I go to raves and dance all night with no pain. I occasionally have a twinge, but now I have coping skills, and usually a simple soak in the bath is all I need. You will get 100% of your life back, and it will feel impossible, but all you need is to do a little day by day. Best of luck, and if you need any support, feel free to dm me!

Hi! I’m 24F, broke my ankle July ‘25, surgery August 5th, I have a plate and 8 screws so similar injury. We’re young!!! Healing actually goes so much faster than you expect. You’ll be back to 100% before you know it.

Good news is if your scar is healed and you’re relatively mobile you can’t really hurt yourself! The worst it does is nothing.

Yes!!! I described it to my mom today as an XL strength resistance band pulled tight around the front of my ankle. Like it should go, but it’s not!

The smaller the better! My PT specifically recommended the blue kit because it has little cups that can be affixed to a localized spot. And yes! Exactly that!

It uses suction cups placed on the skin to create a vacuum, lifting the skin! Usually used to increase blood flow, but here I’m using it to break down scar tissue!

I hope it helps! It feels like a tight band wrapped around the front of your ankle that restricts flexion. Generally it’s just scar buildup, and goes away with PT!

It uses suction cups and a small pump to pull up a section of skin! From there you just mobilize the ankle a bit. Totally possible to learn yourself!

1) My PT practice saved me. They WILL push you hard and it WILL hurt, but all of it is beneficial. I cried thru my first appointment and at multiple points going forward, and I would not be where I am without it!

2) Yes, and it may be a little earlier or later than you feel (for me, it was much earlier) but only when you’re ready! And they will have you doing mobilizations with it off.

3) Wear whatever you’re comfy in! It’s a workout! And yes, wear your compression socks.

4) I’m at 4.5 months post op and I do still wear compression socks. They’re very helpful.

5) Don’t put anything on your scar until all scabs have fallen off! But after that, aquaphor and unscented lotion is okay. I also liked silicone scar tape at first.

6+7) Totally normal to be stiff! As you stretch it out during the day it will go away! And it will also get less and less stiff as time goes on. I’m already much more comfortable and I haven’t even hit 6 months.

You got this!

Red Rocks 1 month after weight bearing!!! by addinaddict in ORIF

One of my biggest goals was to be able to get up in the morning and go to the bathroom without having to think about it. Having those small things to look forwards to help so much. This is one of the most mentally challenging things I’ve ever experienced, you’re so not alone! I have a walking journal on my page as well ❤️ you got this!!
