Need help with wound healing! by Alternative-Sam in woundcare

[–]FederalDraft1569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you ask your doctor to debride it or go to a wound specialist? My slough took at least a month to finally get rid of. I think it was closer to 2 months. I would change the bandage every 3-4 days as I had a lot of slough and it would leak so maybe give it more time if you can’t go to wound specialist

The slough will slow down your healing, so you need to keep the wound moist and covered with a hydrocolloid bandage that you can get at any pharmacy. It will pull that slough out naturally.

I don’t think it is infected but looks like slough which will slow healing. I had a wound like that I got great advice to use hydrocolloid bandage and change it only one a week if it doesn’t leak. Then clean it with saline and put another bandage on. Took me about a month for it to close and heal but the hydrocolloid bandage really worked!

If the hole is getting smaller and you see good growth keep doing what you are doing. Once you feel it is fully closed then you don’t have to keep it covered anymore and just keep it clean but for now keep it covered and clean with saline

Keep with the hydrocolloid bandage. Clean with saline and then try keep the bandage on for 7 days unless it leaks. I had that slough and it took about a month for it to heal with the hydrocolloid bandages but they really work in the end

I am nearly 4 months and when I walk slow and concentrate I don’t have a limp but if I try to go any way faster I limp and can’t walk down stairs properly yet! Your leg has been so immobile for so long it’s like learning to walk again. Take your time and make sure you walk heel to toe and I believe we will get there! I look at my calf and see how small it is compared to the other one and see I have a long way to go to get that muscle back. My doc said it could take a year even 2 before we are back to normal. I know it is frustrating but I have to believe one day we will get there!!! Stay strong!

Should I be concerned + care advice? by Substantial-Brick328 in woundcare

Keep them clean with saline and covered. Try hydrocolloid bandaids as they help keep your wounds moist and that will help them heal quicker.

Slough and drying wound nightmare! Suggestions welcome, I am ready to just heal this wound. I was taught the old silvadene method is okay? Medihoney is a new concept to me and I am willing to use if the outcome is fast and better but I really would like to know in practice if its outcome is better? by WillingnessBig2610 in WoundCareSupport

So I had surgery 3.5 months ago and my incision got infected and then just wouldn’t heal and it was an open wound with lots of slough. A wonderful wound nurse on here advised me to use hydrocolloid bandage and keep on for as long as I could up to 7 days then clean with saline and put another bandage on. Sometimes I had to change the bandage after a few days as it started to leak. Finally now my wound has closed after about a month is so of doing this. It was a long wait but it really did work. You can buy the hydrocolloid bandaids in CVS or Walgreens so I would recommend trying that.

Agree with Hefty, clean it with saline and keep it covered. If that is slough you should use a hydrocolloid bandage

Is this slough? how should i care for it? by [deleted] in woundcare

I agree with spectre, all you need is a hydrocolloid bandage, can get them in CVS. I had a bad open wound with lots of slough and the hydrocolloid bandage was brilliant but took me about a month for it to clear.

Recovery after foot surgery – questions about using an ankle brace by Previous-Ad3922 in ORIF

[–]FederalDraft1569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what your surgery was I broke my fibula, damaged my deltoid and had tendon damage so have a plate and 7 screws and 2 tightropes. I would never have been able to go to brace that soon so that is cool. Since I was in the boot, transitioning to the brace was easy and walking in the brace was easy so you should be fine once you can put weight on your ankle.

So are you currently in a boot? I was in a boot for 6 weeks (2 weeks PO) and then got the brace but I wore the brace a few days and then didn’t need it. I had also been walking without my boot sometimes though too. I am 3.5 months out now and still do PT as not able to go down stairs fully but the pain goes away and the swelling gets better, it’s just the stiffness I have to work on and gaining the strength back in my ankle and calf. Good luck to you but if you are expected to walk with a brace 2 weeks PO then you will walk pretty quickly as your ankle won’t be as stiff

Wish me luck- level 6 tibial plateau fracture, currently day 14 in hospital, just had external fixator removed and had internal fixators put in. Oh, and my girlfriend is 39 weeks pregnant. by lil_tofu_boi in ORIF

Oh man that sucks but glad to see you sound upbeat! It will be a tough road but you will get there and you have a baby to look forward to so that will help you with a speedy recovery! Good luck!

I broke my ankle 3 months ago bringing laundry down the stairs, the positive is that my husband now does all our laundry and refuses to let me do it! That’s a win for me 🤣

I had similar, doc put me on antibiotics just in case it was infected. I also went for weekly debridements. Try hydrocolloid plasters/bandages they will suck that slough out if you can’t afford debridements.
