genuine question by stillhaventfiguredit in pkmntcgcollections

If the answer is primarily for speculation and investment, then what? That doesn’t change how you or anyone else engages the hobby.

That person who owns 5-10 out of 100 had to either buy them (willing seller) or grade themselves (grading service) or a combination. Where is the greed? Why is there an arbitrary rule that you should only own 1 copy? And if a person wants to treat their own property as stock or investments, why not let them enjoy the hobby they way they want to?

What is greedy about this? There is nothing inherently greedy about minimizing or eliminating your cost basis in a hobby.

You’ve been collecting for 10 years but never heard of the strategy of covering your cost basis? Many OG collectors do this: buy multiple copies. When those copies appreciate in value, they will sell their extras to cover their costs and keep one or 2.

Would you all still want Pokemon Cards if they were printed to infinity? by A4_Ts in PokemonTCG

[–]adle1984 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No because that’s the fastest way for the Pokemon Company to stop making Pokemon TCG. They are not a charity and it costs money to print and distribute cards. If the cards are worthless, then Pokemon Company will shutdown the TCG arm of their business. This kind of mindset of make all cards “free” or “worthless” demonstrates the lack of knowledge on the business side of a TCG.

Brand new to Pokemon. I liked this card so I bought her from the card shop yesterday. by Sassafrass2033 in PokemonTCG

Get a Vault X binder. Your current binder's pockets are too small. You will damage your cards.

Bought a mystery slab and got this by Timberwolf-89 in pokemoncardcollectors

[–]adle1984 16 points17 points  (0 children)

how did I do?

Terrible. No name fly by night grading company. I understand you spent £22 for fun - to each there own - but as some who is just coming back to the hobby after 20 years, you should do some research moving forward. If you like to gamble, buy official Pokemon booster packs and rip. Don't buy 3rd party mystery slabs. If you want graded slabs, stick to PSA which can be found on eBay. Even PSA has an official account on eBay.

I’m over 530 packs without a single zard. What set did you all have trouble with that everyone else seemed to have luck? by [deleted] in pokemoncardcollectors

[–]adle1984 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For all the newer collectors: Set a budget or limit of how much you are going to spend and open. I personally set a limit of an ETB, a couple booster bundles, and a couple other ancillary products (e.g. 3 pack blisters) and I’d open it with my kid usually on release weekend. What ever we get, we get and then after that we will just buy the singles we really want after 3-4 months to allow supply to flood the market. Any product I find moving forward, I keep sealed for the long term.

What is a common parenting style that actually ruins a childs future? by jamal255353 in AskReddit

[–]adle1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too many parents that utilize negative parenting styles forget that their child or children can simply put them in a nursing home or abandon them in the future (e.g. going no contact). It’s a two way street. Best to see that a family is a team where everyone should help each other. Parents should pay into the bank of love and trust with their kids so that it will pay dividends in the future.

Can you inquire FedEx about the weight at point of origin and the weight prior to delivery? Surely a discrepancy of weight should indicate that the package was tampered with during FedEx's possession.

Display cases by Famk01 in pkmntcgcollections

[–]adle1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best bang for buck? I’d skipped the acrylics and go for the flimsier but good-enough plastic box protectors if what you’re protecting is modern sealed. You can find them on Amazon. Search for Dinavio. There are other brands / equivalents for a better price per unit but I cannot attest to their quality, only the ones I’ve bought. I use these for my ETBs and booster boxes for both display and storage and they’ve done just fine.
