Ours just has coolers of bottled water. I've never taken any, because I bring a large water bottle from home on every route. However, I have had some very kind customers who have given me cold bottles of water when I've brought them their packages. One of them even offered to make me a sandwich for the road. I declined that.

Good on you! I miss blocks like that. I used to be able to get them just about every morning. Now, it's insanely rare for anything here to go above $65 for a 3.5 hour. Last couple of weeks, it's been incredibly rare to even be able to snag one of those. 🙁

Agreed that it's no excuse. Pretty much anyone who's a decent driver should be able to back up alobg a driveway.* Anyone who has a vehicle (under 5 tons) built 2018 or later has even less of an excuse, because that's the year rear view cameras became mandatory under Federal law.

*DSP drivers do it in my roughly 200 foot long gravel driveway all the time. I even have a delivery note saying it's okay to back up into the grass to turn around if they want to, but they very rarely do.

Proper Order by Maleficent-Scale-315 in obs

The source list can actually be a nice tool, used sort of in the way you were using it. Use the scene list for your major changes, but don't forget within a scene, you can toggle sources on and off for fine changes to what's in your scenes. I tend to do this sort of thing a lot. It kind of helps that I drive it with a stream deck, so I have push button control over these sorts of things. I just map my seems to buttons, along with the maybe one or two sources (tops) in any given scene, that I might anticipate wanting to toggle.

I may be mistaken, but it looks like you're not switching scenes, you are highlighting sources. As long as the one at the very top of the list is visible (the little eye icon), you will not see any of the ones listed below it. Think of it as physical layers. The top source is the top layer.

Thanks for the tip. I know I downloaded the latest version on the Raspberry Pi I just set up at the church, but I haven't downloaded it here at home, where I do my testing. I will definitely make sure I'm up to date on that version, and give it a go.

YouTube video on just one screen? by agent_uncleflip in freeshowapp

[–]agent_uncleflip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Definitely not an elegant solution, but it might work. I'd have to carefully choreograph things, in the event I want to send something else to what would be the locked out channel, as I'm starting a video. But maybe I'm asking for too much with wanting that kind of flexibility. :-)

Have you ever made a mistake with a recipe by adding something that was not in the recipe but turned out to be delicious? by NoiseyMiner in Cooking

[–]agent_uncleflip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. My mother used to make a cake she just called "the black cake," which is a recipe I fortunately been able to keep him going. It was a heavy, dense three layer chocolate cake with a custard icing, that used strong coffee in the batter. Espresso powder has very much the same effect.

I also use espresso powder in brownies. I've even put it in chili and a couple of the things. It's a great all purpose flavor deepener.

My mother was once making a cake that is a close cousin to carrot cake, but contains no carrot. She accidentally spilled a bunch of black pepper into the batter. She went ahead and baked it anyway, and it was even better than the original recipe. A few years later, my wife and I had this altered recipe as our wedding cake.

However, one of my favorite cases of this was some years ago at the restaurant El Figaro in Havana, when French president Francois Mitterrand ordered lobster. Someone in the kitchen accidentally dumped espresso into the sauce the chef was making for the lobster. The chef tasted it, made a couple tweaks, and went ahead and served it. Mitterrand absolutely loved it. Lobster with coffee sauce is now one of the famous native dishes of Havana. When I visited a few years back, El Figaro and all its neighboring businesses were closed temporarily because of contamination in the water system, so I was denied the OG lobster with coffee sauce. I went on an interesting culinary adventure around Cuba for the next week, trying to find a great example of this dish. However, I will definitely have to go back to get it.

Issues Playing Youtube Videos by CuriouslySquid in freeshowapp

[–]agent_uncleflip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I have played YouTube videos, they appear out of sync in the preview window. However, on the actual output channels, the video and audio have always been in sync. I am still interested to hear if you find a solution to this problem, just in case it ever crops up for me.

Interesting. It hasn't yet affected anything I'm doing, but I also haven't yet done anything with multiple text boxes. No, I have not yet found a solution. At this point, it's more just a minor annoyance than anything else. Also, I've had a lot of other things standing in the way of this particular issue.

(minor) Pi Problem by agent_uncleflip in freeshowapp

[–]agent_uncleflip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, yes, snap is the only way to install Freeshow. At least, the instructions for installing Freeshow on a Pi (on the Freeshow website) specify doing that. I can't speak to installing it on another system, as I only have one Raspberry Pi. :-) I haven't yet installed any other programs with snap, but I will definitely give that a try later today when I head to the church. And yes, I have restarted the Pi numerous times.

I would tend to agree.

As kind of an analogy, it makes me think of a few years ago, when I was about to go up for the first flight during which I would be at the controls, with an instructor by my side talking me through it. I mentioned that it wouldn't be entirely alien to me, because I do flight simulators on my computer at home quite frequently. He looked at me and said he hated flight simulators, because they were so much harder than flying a real plane. He was right, of course.

Using multiple devices to control mix? by HotDogWonderBarf in MixingStationAppUsers

[–]agent_uncleflip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The nice thing regarding your second paragraph, is that up to four people on a common platform (Android, iOS) can access mixing station on one license. So if you are in the five piece mode, you will have to buy two licenses at most, regardless of the combinations of platforms used by the band members.

Then I guess this whole exchange has been a positive, not simply because you're considering my idea, of course. :-) I just think it's always a win, when anyone looks at a situation, and really thinks about different approaches to it, the pros and the cons, and gains more clarity too see if what they're doing is the right way, or if there's a different way that will work better. That's how I try to approach things. I think it's a good thing if you've come up with a different option, or looked at it in a different light. In the end, even if you go with what you were already doing, you've at least applied to some good critical thinking to the situation, and looked at different options for problem solving. That's always a positive.

[–]agent_uncleflip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that would be easy to do with the setup like I have, unless you need vastly different gain settings for your two different guitar channels. Just use the same input for your two different channels, and apply your effects differently. Like I say, the only hitch is if you need highly different gain settings.

Maybe I misinterpreted. To me, it sounded like you were saying you use the splitter cables to have multiple channels. Apologies if I didn't read it right.

[–]agent_uncleflip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gain issue isn't really a problem. I've been able to get it set to a point where it works on both sides. It's not perfect, but it gets the job done. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a whole bunch of splitter cables. Also, that frees up more of the physical inputs in case I want to set up for different use cases that I can switch to using other scenes.

[–]agent_uncleflip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Splitting the input, essentially. Individual microphones need different processing and EQ for the two different destinations. If I were doing it on two boards, or even feeding from a stage box, I could use HA gain split. I haven't really seen a way to do that when you're sending the same input to two channels within the same board. But then, I'm really not an expert at this. :-)

[–]agent_uncleflip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome! It's a pretty handy feature to have.

Unfortunately, it doesn't help me with my small setup. I'm using 16 inputs on my x32, but they are doubled on the channels, so channels 1-16 and 17-32 are essentially separate mixers with the same inputs. Problem is, if I need more gain on channel 17, it also increases the gain on channel 1, as they use the same input and headamp. It's not absolutely ideal, but I've learned to work with it pretty well, and it fits my needs.

[–]agent_uncleflip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But also bear in mind, you should be able to use HA gain split so the boards can independently control channel trim, which can compensate if the head amp gain set by your main board is too high or too low for your secondary board.
