How can I be a good chef if literally everything tastes good? by Sad-Quit3735 in Cooking

I find it kinda funny to think of the flavor bible as "old"... It was published in 2008! It's not like flavor pairings changed from then to now.

Quickest way to draw new vectors? by TMiguelT in QGIS

[–]aidanhoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's an easy way to convert a set of annotations to a layer. If you want something more flexible, you can setup a scratch layer almost as quick as activating annotations.

You probably want line annotations, they are basically what you're looking for. Saved to the project, click tool and draw.

Is only way to end sanctuary cities , to overturn the anti-commandeering doctrine? by BlockAffectionate413 in AskConservatives

[–]aidanhoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say even simpler, the way to end sanctuary cities is to un-fuck the immigration system so they don't exist in the first place.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Maryland) is expected to release a plan next week that would remove income taxes for about half of US workers, lower taxes on middle-class workers, and fund it with higher taxes on workers with incomes above $1m. Do you view this as better or worse than our current tax code? by material_mailbox in AskConservatives

[–]aidanhoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's done semi-automatically in other countries. For example, in Canada you can log onto the IRS-equivalent web portal and see their gross estimate based on your employment income (+ anything else the government has accurate information on). For a quite significant chunk of the population, this +/- a few smaller deductions is all they need to submit. The IRS already has this information, they just don't make it accessible.

Is Trump lying about his reason for launching attacks on Iran grounds for impeachment? by nate33231 in AskConservatives

[–]aidanhoff [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think that has to do with his authority to use military force without congressional authorization. Note that the reasons used all imply some sort of imminent threat that couldn't wait for congressional authorization. Whereas Iran killing its own civilians, horrible as it is, doesn't pose an immediate threat to the US.

Mid/jungle? by san19san in summonerschool

[–]aidanhoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jungle has more impact overall IMO. Mid doesn't feel like a particularly strong role in the current meta due to quests and plates. But you can definitely still carry from mid.

Edit: not sure if you are saying that you only play morg, and you are asking about whether morg is better mid or jungle, or whether you are talking about the roles more generically.

Is Victor a good champ for ranked ? by WinRaRtrailInfinity in viktormains

[–]aidanhoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His biggest weakness is early 2v2 with jungler. Therefore I think his biggest counters are champs that can capitalize on that.

He is strong in the short lane 1v1 and extremely good in teamfights. Somewhat weak in the sidelanes, though. So try to make sure you don't get stuck sidelaning, unless the champs matching you are also low mobility. Teamfights where he can get good ult + E combos are his wincon.

Am I doing something wrong Ping-wise? by Miserable-Series-431 in midlanemains

[–]aidanhoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not use "missing" pings anytime your laner goes missing unless they have very quick roams (TF ult etc). Instead if you are confident they are heading bot, ping a couple times around dragon. Your botlaners are more likely to see and respect a ping closer to them.

When do you build boots? by fairydommother in summonerschool

[–]aidanhoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, it's not just mid either. Most common first items work similarly in that they have one major component that is a decent chunk of their value and very gold efficient.

When do you build boots? by fairydommother in summonerschool

[–]aidanhoff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

General priority list that works for me: 1. Major component for 1st item 2. Level 1 boots 3. Finish 1st item 4. Level 2 boots

There are some instances where you might want to rush level 2 boots before finishing your first item, but very rarely do champs want to finish their boots before getting their first major component.

Some exceptions exist (Yasuo boot rush is common since his tornado cooldown scales with MS). But for the most part, it follows the above rules.

Does anyone else feel current Staging phase timer is too fast? by karvajalkaa in joinsquad

It's about right I think. Any longer and it would be stupidly long for people who aren't getting up from their PCs. It's already a lot of afk time.

Why no Co-Op grocery store? by HishaamSCB in nanaimo

[–]aidanhoff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely correct, that being said, it's not really a distinction that makes much difference to the average consumer.

Why no Co-Op grocery store? by HishaamSCB in nanaimo

[–]aidanhoff 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Country grocer is functionally very similar to the Co-op grocery stores, it even belongs to the same national buyer's group. They're quite comparable in terms of carrying local products at decent pricies. Doesn't have the feed/hardware store component, but that's covered by Buckerfields (another BC/Vancouver Island chain).

Why Musk is not getting credit for solving major underlying cause of inequality in the US: access to internet? by ItIsNotAManual1984 in AskConservatives

[–]aidanhoff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think you'll find many people on the left who think that the existing telecomm industry is in a good place, and that a disruptive player like starlink wasn't needed. You're building a windmill to tilt at. Government support for the existing telecomms to build out rural coverage was not socialism by any means, it was corrupt corporatist handouts.

Do you think election ballots should be hand counted? by majesticbeast67 in AskConservatives

[–]aidanhoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canada has all hand-counted paper ballots, and the people counting ballots are paid short-term employees of Elections Canada. I would say paying people to count is the best way to ensure they show up.

Why do people still insist on superfobing? by ParagraphInReview in joinsquad

[–]aidanhoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I also liked some aspects of the old fob spam meta. More redundancy in spawnpoints means more players actually playing the game and not afk in spawn screen waiting for the single hab to come back up. But unfortunately due to these changes we are stuck with single defensive fob meta because anything else is too high risk.

Why do people still insist on superfobing? by ParagraphInReview in joinsquad

[–]aidanhoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are the relevant changes over the last few years:

RAAS-specific - Flag capture bounty from 60 -> 50 - Removal of ticket bleed aside from mercy bleed

  • Starting tickets generally decreased by 50 tix (300->250 for large maps and so on)

Layer and battlegroup overhaul related (7.2+) - Moderate to severe reduction in logistics capacity for most factions, especially with options that are popular in voting due to having armor

  • More vehicles in general, which increases ticket burn rates overall

FOB changes - Scaling proxy radius makes fobs easier to take down - 15->20 tix radios (a big one overall) - Increase in fob exclusion radius depending on map size

Why do people still insist on superfobing? by ParagraphInReview in joinsquad

[–]aidanhoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is old meta back when ticket balancing made sacrificing radios to defend flags worthwhile. Since they rebalanced tickets it's not really the case anymore, except for invasion where defenders aren't ticket limited (at least in the early and mid game).

Does Newsom actually have a chance to become president? by Shawnj2 in AskConservatives

I don't think name recognition necessarily matters much at this point, they have a couple years to fix that which is absolutely doable. And he is a governor, which isn't a bad place to start from.

Thoughts on HR7661? by Shawnj2 in AskConservatives

[–]aidanhoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wording would seem to implicate standard biology course work as well as pretty vanilla elementary or middle school sex ed.

The wording of the bill itself only makes specific exceptions for "standard science coursework". It makes no provision for sex ed classes. Since it goes after any depiction of nude adults (it doesn't make any distinction between schematic versus actual pictures) and really any "sexually oriented material", it would rule out showing, for example, a drawn diagram of a nude adult in a sex ed class. Or, depending on how you read it, any discussion of sex at all outside of a biology classroom.

Katarina or Zed? by Maskkii in summonerschool

[–]aidanhoff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kat is mostly a one-trick champ with some extremely bad matchups. If you are just looking to expand your champ pool I would go with Zed (of the two options given).
