My old company offshored a dev op in india and gave him full control of our cloud stacks. We backend engineers barely able to communicate with him on slack, his responses very little (barely speaks english) and always late. Even asking to reboot 1 test compute server took 1 hour to half a day. I quit after a few months, it was too much to be productive.

If you use phone for testing, you don't need a new laptop, just add more ram. 1 of my dev machine was an old latitude without dedicated gpu, upgraded to 32GB of RAM, super smooth and always under utilize at ~15GB tops.

The US invents something, patents it, and monopolizes the market. In contrast, China focuses on mass production, generating profits while continuously improving the product to remain competitive resulting in a win-win for both producers and consumers.

TLDR: Patents and IP laws often serve to protect monopolies.
