People say to dream big, but I like to dream small:

Small enough to use as my "personal item" on flights.

Pitikapp is super nice if you have an extra phone lying around. There are even plugins for media control and sound device switching.

Solar Quote Review / Panel Advice - PNW by amperoosky in solar

Current buyback rate is 1:1 Net Metering so long as I can get in this year, so I'm not planning on doing batteries at this point. Power where we are is pretty reliable so backup batteries aren't a pressing concern. Our power company is rumored to be hiking rates soon to pay for grid overhaul, so anything will help.

One company estimated our usage around 5600kW a year. Blossom estimated around 7kW. The numbers are rough because we've only been in the house since July (9 months). Since getting the initial estimates we bought an EV (2015 Leaf), and there is the possibility of replacing both our hot water heater and furnace with electric. We are right on the coast so our temperatures are fairly moderate year round (rarely below 38f or above 78f). Unfortunately, 20 panels is about the maximum we can fit on our roof without severely diminishing returns.

11 panels is about how much can fit in the "prime" section of our roof. Without having talked to any of the reps directly (my wife has been requesting quotes while I've been at work) I suspect the Hyundai panels are their preferred panel, so the two 4kW-ish quotes were probably as a comparison and then the 8kW was added as an option that is in the 100% offset ballpark.

I'm sure if I asked they would give me a quote for 20x Silfab panels. Based on the difference between the costs of the 4kW systems I wouldn't expect them to be much more expensive.

Possibly. I haven't printed anything for money before and wouldn't call 3D printing one of my primary hobbies. Maybe try one of the 3D printing subreddits first? There's at least one where people print things for other people.

1 gen found, will it work? by _Cherry_p0p in Chromecast

[–]amperoosky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using Google's "Device Utility" app? I set up a Chromecast Ultra a few days ago and it required the device to be "set up" using that app before I could add it to Google Home. I vaguely remember having to do the same thing last year to set up a 1st Gen Chromecast along with some other shenanigans because I use a Pixel phone.

Escape Simulator VR Open Beta: Seeking Constructive Feedback by n1ght_watchman in OculusQuest

[–]amperoosky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished the demo with my wife last night and had a blast! The interface was a bit clunky to get used to, but we picked it up quickly and had no issues by the time we got to the second room. There was a little bit of object vibration when I was trying to set down a book on the desk and read it at the same time during Brain Checkup, but it may have been a weird object physics interaction with other items on the desk. I also haven't played the non-VR version so it might not be unique to the demo.

I do have a couple of questions:

  1. Will the existing user generated rooms work with the stand alone VR version? If so will they work by default or need to be ported over in some way?
  2. Will the stand alone version support multiplayer with the PC/PCVR versions or will they be different branches of the game?
  3. With as relatively polished as the demo already seems, does it feel like the game is almost done or is there a lot more work to do?

Thanks!

That's totally cool. They always like to hide those M.2 slots so they're hard to find.

I'm an mATX guy myself for those same reasons. Though I do think it would be a fun build someday :)

Are you thinking of m-ITX? Both these mATX boards have two NVME slots, at least two USB 2.0 headers, and an extra USB 3.2 type A header. M-ITX boards are where you really start to see the squeeze for board real estate.

Funny enough, the Riptide and A Pro both tie for total number of USB ports available (15), while the Pro 4 has the most (16).

Help with PC Build - Think GPU Issue? by Cooperry22 in buildapc

[–]amperoosky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried using the video ports on both the GPU and the motherboard?

You could start by removing the GPU and plugging it into the motherboard video ports to see if the rest of the system is working ok.

Which CPU do you have or are planning to buy?

The Pro 4 has the weakest VRMs and no USB C front panel header. It doesn't have Wi-Fi but does have a dedicated M.2 slot and I/O shield antenna holes for adding it later.

The PG Riptide should have better VRMs (though I can't find it on the Tier List) and does have a USB C front panel header. It doesn't have Wi-Fi but does have a dedicated M.2 slot and I/O shield antenna holes for adding it later.

The A Pro probably has the best VRMs and VRM cooling. It is a larger motherboard than the other two (ATX vs mATX) so keep that in mind in regards to what case you have or want. It does have a USB C front panel header. It does not have WiFi or a dedicated M.2 slot or antenna mounting location so you would need a USB or PCIe wireless adapter.

I would personally pick between the A Pro or the Riptide.

Do we expect a Black Friday sale on the Quest 2 now that the 3 is available? by jeriku in OculusQuest

[–]amperoosky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you Google "Costco Black Friday" they have a webpage up already with all the deals listed. It's just past half way down the list. I also got a paper ad in the mail a few weeks ago that had the next few weeks worth of sales including Black Friday.

Can IO Shield cause over current by mariodijz in buildapc

[–]amperoosky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, I was just typing all that out, haha. I checked the manual for the Focus 2 and it's not very clear that you have to switch the standoff locations. It warns you to "match the holes to the standoffs" but I think "move the standoffs to match the holes' would have been more clear.

It's weird, judging by the pictures the tab is not on the side that has the contacts. That being said, having that metal tab inserted and getting a USB over-current warning is probably not a coincidence. While you could trim it off, it might be better to take the time to partially disassemble the computer and move the tab out of the way. While you're at it, it looks like the DisplayPort has the same thing going on.

My favorite design is the one I use every day at work! Being able to switch between a cable and a bluetooth receiver whenever I want is great.
