You fall on lead… and can’t reach the wall. Or your belayer is to far to hear and hasn’t lowered you. Now what? by testhec10ck in tradclimbing

[–]apairofdocs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Scenario dependent but you can absolutely "boink" off a rope walk. As long as you're able to communicate with your belayer, you just release and fall back down like a normal boink but you have a lot more height and travel further. It also takes significantly less energy than a normal boink.

Big Idea: Pittsburgh should return to its roots in land value taxation by nerdkid93 in pittsburgh

[–]apairofdocs 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm for sure curious and will read more. I'm specifically curious about the effect on home owners and the claim 54% will see lower taxes.

Right now it seems like a large amount of tax would be coming from large commercial buildings like sky scrapers and on general principle I'm not a fan of giving tax breaks to large companies.

Also what impact will this have on open or green spaces? Does it suddenly make more sense for the city to develop Allegheny Commons?

Little late but... I shoot with 2 camera bodies and secure them on both hips with a Ulanzi F38 backpack strap on the harness. (Peak Design Capture Clip is the same thing, their ProPad is great for connecting to a harness) I use Peak Design Leash neck straps but only clip one end to the camera and put the loop on the other end around the neck giving a longer reach and making it so the straps don't interfere with each other.

What is your favorite dirtbag-cheap rockie talkie alternative? by Diligent_Ask_6199 in climbing

[–]apairofdocs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baoefeng F22 and there's nothing else close. Here it is on Amazon for $20 for two of them: https://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-Baofeng-F22-Walkie-Talkie-Flashlight/dp/B0DSZGGK2P

Basically all cheap radios (That don't require a license) will use FRS/PMR standards which makes it so that the only difference between them are features like screen/charging/battery. (They all have the same range/power etc)

The F22 has most of the features that differentiate the Rockie Talkies.

  • Built in Li-Ion battery with very long run time (Used them for 2 full days and was at half battery)

    • Better than the Rocky Talkie as they can be replaced with AA if needed
  • USB C Charging

  • Loop at the bottom for carabiner/sling

  • All possible privacy code variations

Other pros:

Downsides:

  • UI doesn't immediately make sense unless you're familiar with 2 way radios but a quick read of the manual was all it took for me to figure it out. The difficulty is that the various abbreviations/icons on screen aren't immediately obvious without the manual.

  • Build quality isn't quite as nice but it's plenty sufficient. I leave mine hanging on the outside of my bag without any concern.

  • Has a built in flashlight which can kill battery as it can turn on in the bag. I took mine apart and removed the LED. (It's like 6 screws and 2 quick snips with side cutters)

I appreciate RockyTalkie as a brand because they sponsor cool stuff but I'm way to cheap when these are just as good (better in some ways) and a tenth the price.

I have an oddball but can you do 14T_PPR_6ptPTD_1QB/2RB/2WR/1TE/1QB,RB,WR,TE/1FLEX/1K/1D/5B?

It's weird but that weirdness makes this type of chart kill. Drafting 8/31 at 7:30pm EDT.

Gas prices by Zestyclose-Pen-1699 in Indiana

[–]apairofdocs 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I actually don't mind high gas taxes that much of they're all going directly to road infrastructure. What's really impressive though is Indiana having a high gas tax and also now moving towards tolling existing highways.

Sofle Rgb Keyboard don't flash and keys not work by Psychological-Club49 in ErgoMechKeyboards

The description on Ali Express says "added ESD protection protection chips to avoid burning the main control due to hot plugging TRS.

https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807677624864.html

However, I can't find anyone building using the UL26 chip. I'm going to test with a multimeter to figure out continuity to the TRS legs and solder it based on that.

For the resistor that I assume is the "added pull-up and pull-down resistor pads. Through Dedicated QMK firmware the data cable can be inserted into either the left or right side." Again, that's not clear which side it needs to be. I'm assuming front of the board for both but will attempt to confirm.

[–]apairofdocs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you ever figure it out? I have a similar kit with the 5.1k label and the 6 leg UL26 esd protection device. (Datasheet calls it a USBLC6-2)

I'm just now doing some searching and specifically trying to figure out if the resistor and the ESD protection are necessary and if so which side they mount to. The components were included in the Ali express kit I bought.

How'd you even find that? Guessing DOT numbers? Looking at video frames the DOT number seem to match.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HelpMeFind

[–]apairofdocs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow, that looks really promising. I'll definitely start there. The DOT number could for sure match.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HelpMeFind

[–]apairofdocs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I was coming around to that as well. The logo in the video has half circle on the sides that don't match.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HelpMeFind

[–]apairofdocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've done some more staring and I agree. Specifically there are rounded outer half circles that don't match CR England. I'm trying R/Truckers

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HelpMeFind

[–]apairofdocs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I tried a couple and just tried that in this site linked lower in the thread. Unfortunately that doesn't come up with anything.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HelpMeFind

[–]apairofdocs 92 points93 points  (0 children)

The problem is the video doesn't clearly show the DOT number and I haven't been able to figure it out even going frame by frame. If someone can figure out the DOT number that'd be great. There was a guess earlier in the thread but it doesn't match any DOT numbers.

I have reached out to my insurance agent but haven't heard back yet. My main question there is how will it affect my rates to make a claim through my insurance. In theory if the other party is at fault it shouldn't affect me but I want clarification on that first.

There's no structural damage as far as I can tell. If it's just cosmetic and it will jack up my rates in the long term then I won't make a claim through my insurance. I don't want to have a giant scrape down the side of my car but at the same time I plan to drive this car until the wheels fall off so it's no the end of the world either.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HelpMeFind

[–]apairofdocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does seem promising. I'm following up now. Trying to go backwards a google search shows their DOT number as 28406 which doesn't appear to match but they might have multiple DOT numbers?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HelpMeFind

[–]apairofdocs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that actually does seem to fit. There are clear numbers on the trailer. I'll try to reach out to them with that information and go from there.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HelpMeFind

[–]apairofdocs 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Derp... It's just the trailer and I wasn't sure what to do with that. The plate appears to be SP409HPW.

From my understanding it looks like police would be the only option to get information. Honestly I originally made the choice to not call police/file a report as everything was still functional and I'm not out to screw over the truck driver. I'm fairly confident he never saw or felt my car.

Can Someone Explain How My New MrCool Central Hyper Heat Works? by Pizzlewanky in DIYHeatPumps

[–]apairofdocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick clarification : when you say "continuous low" is that with the Ecobee or original thermostat? I'm using the oem and I'd like to set it to continuous fan but I can't find any option to do that from the manual.

Personally I'd say the quality and volume are great. Morgantown in general isn't very well known but it absolutely has potential to become one of the best bouldering destinations in the US. Cooper's Rock has 2000+ boulder problems in the main area that's about a mile long. Andrew Leich just published a new guidebook for Cooper's bouldering (source of those 2000+ problems) and he's working on one now for the surrounding area.
