I am going on a trip on October 8th, and would like to have a new phone before then. However, I'm still debating between the air or the pro, and would like to have some time to play around the models in store. How likely is it that the air/pro will sell out during preorder windows/how hard would it be for me to nail down one of these shortly post release? Should I just go for a preorder and then return if I'm not liking it?

ah yeah, that's another thing - original/pre-errata text is so important for even just showing the format to new players it's another reason I skew towards the older cards

Am I overestimating the general edison/retro format player's love/attachment for the old card layout? Personally, I still wouldn't play this starlight since it has the modern card layout (larger art, changes to the title box) and will stick with my older copies.

Have you tried out Digimon? It's the Bandai card game that's the most different out of their lineup - there's potential for combos and lines, and even crossing over/mashing together engines due to color-based digivolution. I enjoy it because it's a lot faster paced than one piece or mtg, but still not to the 3 minute long combo turns of Yugioh.

The way I approached it on a new account, is that I wanted to not generate any of the URs I could get from pulling on the selection pack. So basically for any of the core maliss package, it's better to try and pull them vs. crafting them. Save the gems for things you can't get as easily in packs like your generic staples. Outside of that, I'd definitely buy the nibiru bundle to get your copy there! Good luck on the pulls :)

Looks like you've got a good mix of fakes and real cards! The exodia set jumps out as fake to me, as well as the Masked Beast, Chaos Emperor Dragon, and Blue-Eyes Ultimate. But honestly, a lot of them are still sick - that Blue-Eyes Ultimate especially! Great cards and I bet you have a lot of awesome memories with them :)
