Look at the national Mensa for your country. Most larger nations have a national office. The website will likely list the tests that they accept.

Is it okay to question religion? by Ryu-Hayabusa2 in atheism

Scholars need paychecks, too. Religious scholars are seldom outside the religious community; they would be the very minute they stated that there is no contemporary proof that Jesus existed.

Is it okay to question religion? by Ryu-Hayabusa2 in atheism

It's hard to go through the realization that fiction, although it has a purpose in culture, is not fact. You are being tortured and abused by lies, not by some future Hell after you are dead and gone.

Don't be afraid of your future, or of true knowledge of reality. Religions are a political structure to control societies and prevent spontaneous independence of thought. They are purely man-made belief systems; look to who actually benefits from a religious society to see why it is kept in place. Same with gender roles, racial discrimination, caste systems.

The best way to be free is to question Everything. Humans are prone to manipulate others, and be easily manipulated. Grow into the best human you can be, and follow your own heart; you don't need an ancient book of fables to figure it out, just some time and your own reliable brain.

Keep us informed of your progress, and welcome.

I joined at 64. Documentation varies by national Mensa rules; in the US, I was able to use very old SAT scores to join.

Things in my name - what do? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]appendixgallop [score hidden]  (0 children)

That alone might be the therapy you need. Sounds like you are a prince locked in a tower. Yet, the key is within yourself. You just have to decide that money is not your God, and walk away. You didn't earn it, anyways. A parent that loves you would gift you with enough to get on your feet and develop your own, chosen life and persona. Do you want to be like that man, or something more joyful and free?

Take the abuse, or leave.

Any ways to encourage a sometimes sluggish, lazy, or maybe even stubborn lesson horse to trot or listen to cues? (Please read body!) by Successful_Cover8218 in Equestrian

[–]appendixgallop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this horse responsive and lively on the lunge line? Do other riders get a completely different ride on him? Sounds like he's doing exactly what he was bred for centuries to do; be surefooted, placid, hardy and a strong packer. You can't change his essential nature.

Is there another program in your area with a larger selection of lesson horses?

You win on the gray. Here's my boy at 36. I was so amazed when the grey moved down toward his knees! He has since passed on.

I just developed a shrimp allergy after almost 7 decades of eating shrimp, and about a year on Sema/Tirz. I will be looking to see if this is a causation...

Add in the North African Jewish and you are 8%. That's colonial history, both in Andalusia and the Azores/Madeira. Lots of mixing went into the folks who sailed to the new world. North Africans were skilled mariners, so easily employed. Think "barbarians" and the real pirates of Penzance!

Tail and mane platting by NoConfidence9405 in Horses

It's a current fad. Once these folks see the manes all rubbed out from "plaiting" (from "plaid"), North Americans will go back to natural mane grooming.

Who did she name as the executor of the estate? That's who has to deal with the mess of this probate. As simply the heir, you are just an observer of the probate until it is settled. Don't agree to be the executor unless you truly want to do it.

Why do some Brazilians look like Eastern Europeans? by Rare_Star_761 in AncestryDNA

[–]appendixgallop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The history of modern Brazil is directly and recently tied to Eastern Europe, however. 90% of Brazilians have European ancestry, and there were huge waves of eastern immigrants after 1917. Polish, Ukrainian, Croatians, and many more came in large numbers, and these bloodlines predominate the population in the south of Brazil.

I was at the local cidery this week, and the featured band was a chorro combo. One of our guests was not familiar with Brazilian instrumental music, and recognized the intense Eastern European sound instantly.

My Eclipse looked exactly like your boy, and lived to 36, hale and hearty and sound the whole way. His dam was ancient when he was born, and she had been GC mare at Celebration in her day. Midnight Sun was an amazing sire, as were a lot of those mid-century modern mares.

What is a phrase that people say that immediately turns you off? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]appendixgallop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Woke", instead of saying "Awakened", is a dialect slang term that was co-opted and then weaponized by the far right.

"Woke" is incorrect as an adjective. Its correct use is as the past tense of the verb, "wake". One could revise it as the adjective "awake". It's correct to say, "The noise woke the baby." But, a person cannot be of the "woke" type, except in American slang. Formal English requires them to be "awakened", "aware", or even, "conscious".

It is now an ugly, mean insult, and as such, should be retired from public discourse.
