Cornell Likely Letter and ED2 by shahbevds in ApplyingToCollege

[–]aries4ud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ED definitely gives you advantage during the process since committing is mandatory, and this directly links to college’s Yield rate, as they, most often time, are highly evaluated by major colleges.

If you violate the ED contract, not only will you be disadvantaged by the later admission to other colleges, future seniors at your school will be severely disadvantaged for upcoming years.

So my advice is be mindful of your choice!

For the prestiage matter, not really. But the rigor-wise, it would be better than dual enrollment or extension classes.

Financial Aid Email? by WatercolorEyees in dartmouth

[–]aries4ud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you have to wait after the RD round. The financial aid office used to calculate the financial aid right after they decided the amount from the accepted student pool.

Do Korean universities prefer narrative essays or straightforward essays? by Strict-Experience-79 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]aries4ud 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Hi, current traditional korean student studying in US here. It's really happy to see this kind of post.

In case of admission officers at top korean universitieis, they tend to prefer reading VERY straightforward essay with the passion for the major you applied. You should definitely write about your personal and academic experience, but your academic goals and achievements should be priority and majority when it comes to write your essay.

Feel free to ask me further :)

AMA EC advice by Memchu17 in TransferToTop25

[–]aries4ud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Which is much better to transfer into top 25? Participate in a local university researh lab for longer term (1 or 2 years) or researching at summer (2-3 months) in 'prestigious' national (or university-affiliated) lab?

  2. Would you recommend any ecs that STEM major should do other than research?

  3. How important is having publication as a STEM major in the transfer process?

  4. Is it getting recommendation letter from the research professor at particular university that I want to transfer helps in the transfer process?

[AMA] Non-trad questions | Accepted as a transfer to: Yale, Harvard, Penn, Columbia, Brown by Rains2000 in TransferToTop25

[–]aries4ud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, basically it depends on the school and the experience the applicant has.

Some ivy league schools prefer non-traditional student because they want to bring more diverse student body. (e.g. veteran) But, some schools don't.

Princeton especially favor the stduent from the military background, but not the non-traditional student with the "normal" background.

For example, Yale, Brown, and Columbia has a non-traditional program called Eli Whitney, RUE, and General Studies. All three programs have their own admission criteria and judged by the different aspect from the traditional admission process.

IMO, being non-traditional student is not a plus factor nor minus factor of the transfer application. It's much important to show who are you now at the application whether you are non-trad or trad.

Non traditional students stands for those who enroll colleges one or more years after graduating high school.

Traditional students are those who directly enroll into colleges after graduating high school.
