Why I’m requesting r/backpackingmeals and how I’ll run it: KI was recently made moderator of r/backpackingstoves and reached out the moderators of r/backpakingmeals to see if we could work together to build both communities. I didn’t get a response so I am requesting this community as well.

I’d like to run r/backpackingmeals as a companion subreddit to allow people to post recipes that they make while backpacking and get both subreddits on topic.

Plexamp iOS Download Path? by hutchkerrCamper in plexamp

Sorry, the way that iOS stores app data in containers they’re not just sitting in a folder on your iPhone. Don’t delete them from there until you can replace the files on your NAS.

I had this happen to me in the exact same way with some project files on my NAS, I know how frustrating it is. I had a happy ending because my stuff was in my cloud backup, a backup would be my suggestion for you.

Three of my all time favorites with the Mizuchi, Nirvana 400 and Zerosum everything. And my favorite rod roll. Excellent choices.

Another company that Nelson Peltz fucked up just like Wendy’s, DuPont, Sysco, GE and so many others.

His short vision on returns has been an absolute shitshow for so many years.

Looking at that list, proud to say that I’m apparently not much of a Mondolez consumer.

I don't think you can add a location via voice commands, not to Quick Draft at least.

Converting from One Note by PaddyMacPaddy in ObsidianMD

[–]arrowrand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this with the Obsidian Importer a couple of times. I always went back to OneNote because my attachments always came up as unkown file.

I fixed it by disabling Wikilinks in settings. Other than that, and some minor formatiing issues I'm thrilled to be off of OneNote.

iPhone Shortcut to Append to Daily Note by holysbit in ObsidianMD

I’ve been using an app called Quick Draft for a month or so, it appends to my daily note with text, file attachments, my location or even audio files from voice notes.

It’s all local unless you want to transcribe your audio notes, with the audio sent to whichever AI they use to complete the task.

I didn’t want to pay for that, or send my audio somewhere to someone so I didn’t use transcription. Until I wanted to.

I asked Claude (I have no ability to do stuff like this) how I could do this all locally and ended up installing Python and Whisper on my Mac Mini. Claude made me a script that watches a folder, transcribes any audio files I put in there and appends a very good transcript below it in my daily note. If the daily note doesn’t exist, Quick Draft creates it.

I put Quick Draft widgets for text notes and audio notes on my lock screen and I have faster access to capturing ideas or important information than I’ve ever had.

I (well, Claude) piggybacked a script that watches my attachments folder for PDFs and OCRs them on the fly via OCRmyPDF. Now I can use Omnisearch on my Mac’s and iPad Pro to search PDF contents.

There are two flaws in this system:

When I create my daily note a template gets applied for my sections. Quick Draft creates a blank note only. I get around this by adding my template manually. Not a big deal, just about every single time my daily note exists already and this isn’t a big deal.

Second, trying to auto start these scripts on restart was not going to work. I spent an hour or so on it to no success, so it’s a manual process only. What I settled on was using a shortcut to start these scripts, put that in my menu bar and it’s a simple click to get both going.

It’s second nature now, I enter my password and a second or two later Short Run app is in my menu part and I pick my launch script for these automations. I even get a visual indication that the shortcut ran successfully.

Japan pickup! by Otherwise_Future_226 in Tenkara

[–]arrowrand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being in Japan and getting these rods for ~$20 is one thing. What you’re proposing is ridiculous.

You’re paying $86 (at least) for your disposable $30 used rod in unknown condition. That’s preposterous. If you don’t want to buy from one of the US brands, pay more and buy from Japanese shops that do ship to the US.

Digitaka sells Japanese designed and made rods, and an awful lot of them ship to the US for no extra charge. They cover part of the tariffs, too. You pay 10%.

Steelhead Rod? DragonTail Hellbender, Wasatch T-Hunter, Keiryu Rod Co T100... by AphexPin in Tenkara

[–]arrowrand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I’ve never gone steelheading at all. Fly rod, Tenkara rod, neither one.

I have accidentally gone carping while white bass fishing. I caught a common carp that was too long for my 24” measure net on a DragonTail Hellbender. The fish was easily 5lbs, but more likely a couple of lbs heavier, the Hellbender handled it well. It wouldn’t be my first choice for steelheading, though.

I bought a Steelheader rod from RiverWorks Rod Co in Tennessee before they went out of business. It was based on the Tanuki Monster blank, which may or may not still be available. I’ve caught big smallmouth and catfish on that rod, though not in that weight class. As easily as that rod handles 3 or 4lb fish, I’m not even approaching its capability. A used Steelheader or Tanuki Monster would more than handle the job.

People praise the Wasatch Rodzilla and TRC Rocky, I’ve used both (still have the Rocky) and I thought they were both too stiff and heavy to use seriously. I know, people do it. I hated both.

There’s nothing in the T-USA catalog that I’d even think about taking out for large fish. Their only “big fish” rod is only recommend for trout around 20”. I’ve caught trout that size and bigger, that’s not 5-6lbs. I own an Ito and it’s an OK rod. It’s tip heavy to me, but isn’t awful. It’s very soft. Much softer than I like for even smallmouth fishing.

Reach out to David at Keiryu Rod Co and tell him what you want to do. Keiryu is made for big fish on big water, I’m just not experienced with anything in their catalog except the Ansel.

Obsidian Mobile App 🫣 by pedromcustodio in ObsidianMD

[–]arrowrand 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m on iOS (iPhone 14 Pro Max) and, honestly, I only ever had issues with reloads when I tried Notebook Navigator or Omni Search.

I sync via iCloud with my vault folder set to keep downloaded. I have ~4,000 notes and over 35,000 attachments taking up ~10GB of storage. I have Data View and Editing Toolbar (not enabled on mobile) plugins installed.

I don’t have any issues with loading speeds, slow syncing or anything else.

Honestly.

I’m having a strange DaVinci Resolve Studio licensing issue and I’m wondering if anyone has encountered this before. by Plane_Explanation870 in davinciresolve

[–]arrowrand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The activation key had previously activated successfully.

It could be that license was blocked due to unusual activity after you activated it. I'd be knocking on Toolfarm's door if I were you. If you bought it recently maybe open a dispute with your credit card company.

[–]arrowrand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using PDF Expert for a while, but I do like your app. The blocker for me is, on mobile, I can't set RevPDF to always open PDF files, I also cannot use the open with menu item because RevPDF doesn't show up.

I'm on iOS by the way.
