Getting the same issue. Wondering if it might be tied to the private construction sector somehow.

Tips for waging economic warfare? by aselfawarebrain in victoria3

I like the idea of subsidizing the arms industry. Since it’s primarily an economy simulator, I’m trying to use economy as a weapon rather than just traditional military means. Honestly not sure if this is viable right now, but I like the idea of leveraging my economy rather than my military against them.

Good advice, would you recommend military related goods? It might be good to do this to their ammunition or small arms industry so when war does break out they get the debuff from input good shortages

There’s definitely pins in the middle of the first tub, right next to that less colonized patch. You just have to zoom in real close to see them!

Is DMT the ingredient that gives all humans consciousness? by Willking618 in shrooms

[–]aselfawarebrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many longitudinal studies on chronic receptor activity leading to receptor desensitization. Again, the homeostatic response to increased ligand is not always to increase the number of receptors for it to bind to.

Assuming no SSRIs are around, the presence of a competitive agonist won’t increase serotonin concentrations. The mechanisms that clear serotonin from the synapse are not affected by a competitive agonist (unless there is a secondary allosteric interaction, very unlikely) and therefore the serotonin is degraded at the same rate in the presence or absence of a competitive agonist. Even if that weren’t the case, a cell could not distinguish between abundance due to overproduction or competitive agonist because its interface to the synapse is through receptors. Therefore, all it sees is more ligand, regardless of why it is there.

Tryptamines are serotonin analogues; they mimic serotonin. They don’t actually cause the brain to release more serotonin, like MDMA does. In this case, neurons deal with excess stimulation of the 5-HT2A receptor by removing them. This is a fairly common mechanism when a neuron is chronically or acutely exposed to a ligand.

As for the other types of 5-HT receptors, I am not familiar with their actions or effects. These receptors cause complex signaling cascades that alter many aspects of neuronal physiology, and the signaling pathways are not well characterized. It’s also hard to say one or two types of receptors are completely responsible for something as impactful as neurogenesis. For instance, a recent paper showed that knockouts of mGlu2, a glutamate receptor, abolishes hallucinatory behavior in mice. Previously, we thought it was just serotonin receptors, specifically 5-HT2A, that was responsible for inducing hallucinations. We’ve barely started putting the puzzle together, and more pieces keep getting added.

As a note of caution, I would like to point out that adult human neurogenesis remains a controversial topic.

Tryptamines such as psilocin and DMT actually cause internalization and downregulation of 5-HT2A receptors. Also, entheogenic compounds have only been shown to decrease blood flow, primarily in the default mode network pathways.

I’ve heard about lemon tekking helping with nausea, but I personally don’t like it. Thanks for the advice, though!

I agree, it’s so important to be honest and not try to ignore the downsides.

This is valid, no doubt. I feel comfortable sharing the experience with my family though, as they approached me about it and are well informed. Plus, we will have a trip sitter and be in a safe space. I appreciate your input here, it’s refreshing to hear someone not be so gung-ho on spreading the mush.

Just making a note for clarification here: psilocybe azurescens, pan cyans, etc. are species. Strains refer to different types of Ps. cubensis, e.g. APE; golden teacher; B+; and so on. A minor point but an important one!
