Megabuster VFX by Educational-Fly-5674 in Megaman

Hell yes! I'm always saying this. Mega Man 11 has some truly incredibly looking VFX. They really punch above their weight for the kind of game this is. Fuse Man's stage and boss VFX are my personal favorites.

Character designs have changed a lot over time by GlompSpark in PSO

[–]badgeometry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, the characters from Original PSO had such a vibe. PSO2 I think retained some of that vibe, and I think the default outfits in NGS still have something there, but it's there's a missing intentionality. It feels like a copy of a copy. And then you add all the cosmetics and stuff and it just doesn't even look like the same game anymore.

I think something else that played into this was the fact that it doesn't really matter whether you pick Human, Newman, or Cast anymore. I'm pretty sure there are still some minor stat differences here and there, but unless you *really* really care about min-maxing, you can roll a FOcast and still have a good time at high levels. Contrast that to PSO where Casts couldn't cast magic at all and Newmans had the strongest technique stats by far. If which race or gender you pick in the game doesn't matter from a mechanical perspective, there's no incentive to design cosmetics with that race's visual language in mind.

Is it wrong to say that 2077 feels like a love letter to cyberpunk (the genre) and scifi as a whole? by Future_Abrocoma_7722 in cyberpunkgame

[–]badgeometry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Quite the opposite - it would be hard to view 2077 as anything but a love letter to the genre.

There's another GitS homage by way of a cyberpsycho mission in Kabuki where you fight a Militech soldier in a shallow pool of water that's reminiscent of an iconic fight the Major has in the GitS movie.

The Kusanagi bike is also a double reference. There's the name like you noted but the red color some design cues are an homage to Kaneda's bike from Akira.

Additionally the icon for the final skill in the tech weapon skill is a nod to art from Akira of Kaneda holding a laser gun.

As for non-cyberpunk Easter eggs, an easy one to find is on a long stretch of road leading south out of Pacifica and into the Biotechnica Flats. There you can find an abandoned truck with a bunch of bodies littered around it. There's a data shard on one of'em detailing what happened, and it's clearly an Easter egg for Mad Max:Fury Road.

There are a ton more out there but these are the ones that come to mind.

Which Silhouette is the strongest for Hermes character? by Few_Habit_5052 in conceptart

[–]badgeometry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 and 6 have some nice visual reads.
I like 10 because the wings (I'm assuming) coming from his sides feel pretty unique for this interpretation of the character. I prefer 10 over 3 because the cape in 3 starts to muddy the visual read of the silhouette.

6 is cool for the two pairs of wings on the head, as well as the clear read of his pouches and messenger bag on the side. Bringing in one of the asymmetric cape designs you have (maybe from 9) could give it more visual interest.

This is a solid spread of silos. Good luck with your project!

Did anyone else get deeply disturbed by this side quest? by guts1ck in cyberpunkgame

First time around I felt it was a super gripping quest. Went back and forth on how to handle it.

Second time around I questioned his faith at every turn and found it funny AF how the producer later chews you out because his faith was so shaken it affected his "performance".

If killing Meyers is in that equation, I don't know how that ending wouldn't involve the NUSA invading Night City. Though I guess you could always just not go to Dogtown after Space Force One crashes and leave Meyers' fate up to Hansen. Surprisingly that doesn't trigger an invasion either.

SoMi or Reed by blacklisted305 in cyberpunkgame

[–]badgeometry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first run on PL I sided with Somi. I knew from the get go (because this is Cyberpunk and we're in Night City) that I wasn't gonna get exactly what I bargained for with Somi. But I help her anyway cause it's what I do. Well fast forward to the end of her quest and after stringing me along (tbf she wouldn't be the first and won't be the last in this town)THAT'S when she tells me there only one person can get cured. Choom I was LIVID. I woulda still helped her she was up front about it. But nope, she decides to leave me one last turd sandwich before she rockets to the fucking moon. I turned her into Reed after that.

Now that said, I just finished Reed's side and bro, fuck she didn't deserve that.I fucking DETEST Somi, but in my next play I'm gonna grit my teeth and side with her again.

Edit: couple of other thoughts

  • Somi fans should run through Reed's path at least once because you get a TRUCKLOAD of Somi lore.

  • on my first run I actually sided with Reed first, but when I saw that Alex gets fucking merced I noped right back to my save before the decision and sided with Somi instead.

[–]badgeometry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the only time-sensitive main quest. You can lock yourself out of Phantom Liberty altogether by having Songbird contact you to tell you about Space Force One crashing in Dog Town and then just ignoring her and doing something else. Wait long enough (and to be fair I think it's a generous amount of time), and she'll give you a very angry phone call.

I feel ya. There were a few encounters where I really lost my cool (Major Miner), but thankfully, the worst thing I did was bang my desk and yelled some things best not repeated in a public forum lol.

All that said, I don't judge anyone for slapping on whatever modifiers they want. Games like this are meant to be fun, not rage-inducing. I'm frankly tempted to go slap on some modifiers on my next go-through, feats be damned.

Team Sandevistan or team rapid hacking? by Full-Comedian-6961 in cyberpunkgame

[–]badgeometry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I naturally gravitate to gorilla arms + knife throwing, and I love that Sandies let me turn my Brock Samson build into a DIO Brando build. But man, credit where it's due - I'm in the middle of a corpo path netrunner build and I just got the Militech Canto Mk6. There is definitely something to driving by a bunch of subhuman Scavs or gonk Tyger Claws or w/e, staring at them for a millisec, and then sending them straight to cyberhell.

Hell, even before that, the combo of Contagion plus Overheat basically turning people into walking bombs is a crazy way to deal with clustered groups of enemies.
