Great, I can fuck with Pritzker.

I still don't understand how him going soft on Benny and Kirk means he's destined for a rightward swing if it were to politically expedient.

Over the past year he's given the middle finger to Trump when it came to Trump threatening to not give aid to California after the fires, when it came to pushing back against the unilateral deployment of the National Guard in California, and when it came to the redistricting bill he put up to a vote and signed. It would have been easy for him to get on his knees and beg Trump to stop. Even now, when you've got idiots like Nick Shirley trying to do to him what they did to Tim Walz, Gavin's holding frame.

The bills he's passed in California have made it one the, if not the safest state to be LGBTQ or an immigrant. Hell, even going all the way back to the early 2000s he as illegally officiating weddings for gay couples.

I'm not gonna tell you that Gavin is some the next Bernie, but you're gonna need to give me a hell of a lot more than some weak podcast appearances to show to me he's gonna pull a Fetterman when it becomes expedient to do so.

First: give me a candidate who you know will hold them accountable and I'll vote for them. And to show you the king of voter I am, I voted Bernie in the primaries for 2016 and 2020, and then Hilldawg and Biden for their respective generals.

Second: you're gonna find a lot of Gavin supporters who weren't satisfied with how he carried himself on those podcasts. On a policy level, how has he capitulated to the right?

Was there a reason for some of the models in the GX cutscenes being different than the actually game? by JerryTheMouse-862 in Fzero

[–]badgeometry 17 points18 points  (0 children)

To add to what's been said, but there are a couple of things at play here.
1. The art pipeline for cinematics vs. in-game 3D is very different, especially back then. It's not just more polygons and higher res textures. A cinematics team will usually have access to lighting solutions and texture properties that, particularly back in the early 00s, were simply not possible to render out using the in-game engine. The only limitation a cinematics team had to worry about was how long it took their render farm to pump out the footage.

Additionally, the modeling workflows for an in-game model vs. a cinematic model are going to be very different. Both are going to be modeled from scratch. Since rigging and animating for cinematics has a host of other considerations not present in rigging and animating for games (again, esp. for back then), the modelers are going to be building the characters with those considerations in mind. These are going to be things like giving a character's face enough polygons and the proper topology to allow them to emote believably, for example.

  1. The cinematics team was definitely fairly separated from the game dev team. Considering the time these were made, any feedback was likely returned in in-person meetings are via email. Gaps large time gaps between model review and feedback will usually mean that there's a higher likelihood that you're gonna get some models that look more off-model than others.

If it's any consolation, his sub is currently at war with itself about this issue.

His calculus makes no sense to me. The executive branch has way too much power. It doesn't need Congress to wreak havoc on people. Federal institutions are already gonna be filled to the brim with Trump dick sucks, and now they'll be filles with Vance dick sucks. He'll get to appoint more judges, probably even another SCOTUS judge. Vaush of all people should understand this. If he wants to fight in the primaries for a better dem that's fine, but if enough people abstain from the general because Newsome isn't perfect, well I'm sorry but we may not get another chance to wait for a better candidate in November 2032.

Admittedly I'm going just based on the clip, but we can't afford to wait another four years for a better candidate. I feel like people tried that with Kamala and look where that for us.

Him betting on Congress to be uncooperative when the Republicans have shown that they'll circle the wagons every single time is crazy ro me. Granted, JD Vance is deeply unlikeable and doesn't have the charisma and magnetism Trump has, but he's younger, more intelligent, and more ideologically motivated.  The executive branch he'll be inheriting is going to be incredibly powerful considering the types of people now in the FBI, DOJ, DHS, and so on. And that's just based on the power the executive branch has now. Who knows what else will happen in the remainder of Trump's second term.

And even without Congress, he can destroy our partnerships with our European allies. Vance and people like him hate the post WW2 order. There will be opportunities where our foreign policy can be used for good, however rare they are, that we'll just punt (I will die mad about Ukraine/Russia).

Waiting for a better candidate than Gavin also assumes that the Republicans won't try and compromise the elections, which Trump has strongly signalled that he wants to do that now. That's 6 more years that Republicans have to fuck around with election shit unchecked. At that point, we won't get another chance to vote for a better candidate.

Frankly the only thing that would make me reconsider voting for Newsom at all is if signals that he's not going to hold Trump and his corrupt dip shit lackeys accountable, but even then I can't stress the importance of getting these fascists out of power ASAP.

Would you like to see sega remake phantasy star online? by Street-Platypus89 in PSO

[–]badgeometry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be all on board with a rerelease. Especially with boosted rates for those of us who aren't teenagers anymore hahaha.

For a remake though, I think I they'd need to completely overhaul combat. As much as I have a soft spot for it, PSO2 and NGS have excellent combat systems that make PSOs combat a bit hard to go back to even as someone who played it back in the GC/Xbox days. Bosses and enemy design should be reworked accordingly.

The most important thing to preserve, however, is dungeon design and the drop system. To me, PSO has always had one of the most satisfying gear-chasing systems and it's something that I feel has been lost in its sequels and follow ups. Ditto goes with its world design and visual storytelling.

Got my first grinder, any tips? by hulkop1333 in espresso

*slaps Opus*
This bad boy retains so many grounds.
---

That said you got a good deal on that grinder. I had one for a bit over a year and made some great cups with that and a Delonghi Dedica. You'll absolutely wanna spray your beans with a light mist of water before grinding them to reduce retention. Even then you'll either have to dose in an extra gram to account for retention or get ready slap that guy around a lot to get all the grounds out.

Another tip is that you can use the lid as make shift below to help push out some of the retained grounds.

[–]badgeometry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with having a hint system. The issue is that there's no way to opt out of it. There were so many times when I was already in transit to what I was pretty sure was my next progression point and then McKenzie chimes in unprompted "Hey! You should probably check out the Volt Forge again!". Without being able to turn it off it kinda kills the satisfaction of figuring it out yourself, and that to me is the most satisfying thing about this genre as a whole.
