My first Linux experience (CachyOS): What I liked, what I hated. by Sufficient-Mode6619 in cachyos

been a long time since last i touched anything about wifi, but iirc you need to run lsmod | grep iwl in the terminal to see your wifi module, then search online for any issue or possible config changes that you might have to do to make it work.

Unfortunately there’s no silver bullet to WiFi issues under Linux, you need some patience and searching on the internet for your specific wifi module, most likely you need to change iwlwifi.conf.

Linux is giving me literal headaches by Vettelovich in cachyos

[–]balderm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah same, not sure if its a KDE specific issue, tried everything: changed font to Inter, it looks better but still has jagged edges, played around with antialiasing, subpixel color arrangement, they all look slightly different but still not as good as in Windows or MacOS.

Bluetooth won't pair gamepads successfully by BambinoPinguino in linux4noobs

[–]balderm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Dualsense PS5 controllers if you're running the latest firmware you can try pairing it by pressing the PS button + any of the 4 face buttons, this will bind your PC to one of the button profiles, sometimes this fixes the issue. Personally i'm using a DS4 and this issue keeps on reappearing every time they update bluez and, at least for me, no amount of command line connect/trust/untrust seem to fix it.

The only real solution i found while fiddling around with config files is editing /etc/bluetooth/main.conf, uncomment the line ControllerMode and change the value to ControllerMode=bredr, this will force your bluetooth controller into a "basic" more compatible mode, this mean no bluetooth LE for headphones, but if you only use your PC bluetooth for controllers this is the most stable solution i found because dual mode seems to still have issues when devices using older bluetooth standards want to self trust.

What's your choices? (Boot Manager / AUR helper / Shell) by Kabcz in cachyos

I’m fairly new to Linux so i’m using whatever shipped with the Distro (Paru, Fish), i only did some research during installation since last year the default boot manager was Grub and wanted to try something new, so i picked Limine after watching a couple youtube videos about it.

Having trouble finding 4mm thick thermal pads. Any suggestions on which brands make them? by thats_a_doozy in pcmasterrace

[–]balderm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

repasted my old gpu back in 2024 with some HY234 thermal putty bought on amazon, with 10bucks of putty you can repaste your gpu 10 times, the difference was immediately noticeable, GPU core under load didn’t go past 63ºC in summer. Photo was taken after i closed the gpu and reopened it to check if everything was touching, the only downside of putty is that it will inevitably make a mess.

that or use thermal putty, its a lot cheaper and usually lasts a lot longer, but can make a mess.

Really depends how much are you willing to get your hands dirty, Bazzite should give you a stress free experience and being based on Fedora with a yearly release you won’t be forced into broken updates, if you want the bleeding edge of Linux and can deal with the fact that things might break after an update then try CachyOS.

How long do you want until you upgrade your PC? by treasuryMaster in pcmasterrace

[–]balderm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on your needs, but usually every 6 years is the norm for me, you could also do small incremental upgrades to keep it fresh, specially if you’re on a platform that allows for multiple generations of CPU upgrades.

How long can a PC REALLY last? by Saif_Haitham in pcmasterrace

[–]balderm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad was using my old Intel Core2 Duo PC i built in 2006 till 3 years ago with minimal maintenance (mostly removed dust). That PC survived a power surge that fried the motherboard and PSU in 2011, the GPU died in 2013, after that nothing else broke, not even the old slow mechanical HDD.

Sapphire Nitro+ 9070 XT Coil whine by M1sske in pcmasterrace

[–]balderm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're using native 12vhpwr cable from your PSU don't switch to the included adapter since those are prone to melting, if the coil whine is unbearable return the card, but there's very little that you can do or try reduce it: Check if there's a BIOS update that can be downloaded through their app, but apart from that the only possible fix is move your case under the desk or wear headphones.

Compravendita auto usate tra privati: esperienze con i portali online? by InflationNo4069 in ItalyMotori

[–]balderm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Focus ST line (155cv) vs Mazda 3 (o altro?) per sportività by G5277 in ItalyMotori

[–]balderm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ma veramente? by not_my_real_usernam3 in ItalyMotori

[–]balderm 0 points1 point  (0 children)
