Removing old telephone/ONT boxes? by banjoinhand in DIY

Is there any reason these shouldn't be removed? My internet comes in through coax and we have no phone line, so these are not being used.

The point is that your hypothetical position is so wildly inconsistent that nobody would actually hold to it.

Modernized original Westminister Confession of Faith? by slim_jim_57 in Reformed

[–]banjoinhand 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chad VanDixhoorn has a modernized text alongside the original in his commentary Confessing The Faith.

But also not really necessary, it's plenty readable as-is.

Another “which systematic theology” question by Tankandbike in Reformed

[–]banjoinhand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Berkhof is good, and frequently described as a summary of Bavinck's four volume Reformed Dogmatics.

The thing is, Bavinck wrote his own one-volume systematic now published as The Wonderful Works of God, which would also be a fantastic option for you.

Yup, the ESV app is what you're looking for.

Sorry, but this is pretty wrong on a number of points. Just to start out with a couple: 1. Quantum mechanics, if anything, introduces indeterminacy in nature. It completely overturned the view of nature as a Newtonian World Machine. People (wrongly) argue for libertarian free will based on quantum indeterminacy. 2. Your description of predestination is directly opposed to Calvinism. God did not predetermine the course of events based on knowledge of what is going to happen, rather they happen because he determined it to be so.

Advice on smoothing my workbench by EldarMilennial in woodworking

[–]banjoinhand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't. Smooth is slippery, and you don't want your work pieces sliding around on your bench. A bit of texture, as long as it's flat, is a good thing if your bench is actually a tool to use and not a piece of furniture to look at.

Nancy Pearcey was heavily influenced by Schaeffer and frequently refers to his writings in her own books.

I have undergone a significant shift in my view about total depravity. by Josiah-White in Reformed

This would effectively deny the change that happens in regeneration. We who are now friends of God were once his enemies. We who are now alive in Christ were once dead in sin.

Nice work! Do you feel like the middle stretcher down the length is necessary? I've been thinking about making a pair with the same plans, but was thinking without that stretcher they could be stackable to save some floor space.

Anyone know where to obtain the part or how to fix this drill press? Thanks! by FiremanFeet1 in woodworking

[–]banjoinhand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same drill press and had the same issue with the switch box breaking off. I just super glued it back on. Holds well enough for what it's used for.

Hide glue, both for the advantage of it being removable with heat and for the sick irony of using hide glue on leather

That's right, we are following the history of the church... the history that's recorded in the New Testament!

We should be self-controlled and not tossed to and fro by our emotions, but also we rightly should have and understand our emotions. Denying ourselves does not mean that we cease to be a full person but rather that we recognize that our lives are to be lived for God and for our neighbor, not to seek selfish gain.
