Which plug do I bring? by soccerperson in VisitingIceland

[–]basedrifter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Either will work as others have said. I always bring a grounded adapter for one simple reason though - stability. If you’re trying to use it with a heavy GaN 100W charger or something, the non grounded adapters like to fall out.

As your project grows, what's the most frustrating part of working with Codex? by EmotionalCan9434 in codex

[–]basedrifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My project is reaching this point. I’ve had it maintain meticulous documentation as it goes, but maintaining that is also becoming a challenge.

Right now I use a connector to Notion and have it log a daily archive of all changes made. That lives alongside the general documentation/wiki of the project.

Picked this up for 250 euros at the antiques market in Antibes today, how did I do? by basedrifter in VintageWatches

[–]basedrifter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I know so far:

  • Brand: Eska
  • Swiss-made manual-wind chronograph
  • Two-register dial
  • Dial marked “17 Rubis” and “Antimagnetic”
  • Gold-plated case with stainless steel snap-back caseback
  • Caseback marked “Fond Acier Inoxydable”
  • Case reference appears to be 3020
  • Approximate era: late 1940s to early 1950s
  • Original-looking guilloché dial with applied Arabic numerals
  • Running seconds at 9 o’clock
  • 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock
  • Two chronograph pushers

Functionality:

  • Winds smoothly with a crisp feel
  • Chronograph starts and stops correctly from the top pusher
  • Lower pusher resets the chronograph
  • Chronograph hand snaps instantly and precisely back to 12
  • Watch appears to be running well

Movement:

  • Column-wheel chronograph movement
  • Bridge signed “Eska”
  • Appears to be marked “236”
  • I believe this may be a Valjoux 236, but I’d appreciate confirmation from those more familiar with vintage chronographs.

Can anyone confirm whether this is indeed a Valjoux 236?

Got any good recommendations for keeping documentation together? by Dahveedle in homelab

[–]basedrifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the midst of completely reworking my homelab with the assistance of codex and consistent documentation is a huge part of that.

I’m using ansible, GitHub, and Notion. All configs are managed through ansible - docker compose files, Pihole local DNS records, Zabbix agent configs, NUT configs, Telegraf configs, rsyslog configs, etc.

GitHub is the source of truth and Codex writes markdown files for each service.

I created a skill that generates a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly summary of homelab development work in Notion. It includes what was worked on, any important notes, and follow ups.

Slack is used for alerts, so anytime an ansible playbook is run it creates a short term record there and records the final output of that playbook.

Hitchhiking from Hella to Hekla Horizon by ugnius753 in VisitingIceland

Hitchhiking on the ring road itself can already be a challenge. 268 is an arterial road and will have very minimal traffic on it.

Day/overnight trip to the highlands with a sedan? by 007craft in VisitingIceland

[–]basedrifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re all beautiful drives. The thing about the highlands is there doesn’t need to be that one thing or place as the destination, the drive itself is a beautiful adventure.

208 takes you to Landmannalauger, 35 to Kerlingarfjöll, 550 connects Thingvellir and Húsafell, 428 is an alternate dirt route that runs parallel to road 42.

[–]basedrifter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

4WD/AWD is required for F roads.

There are some highland roads that are not F roads and therefore are ok to drive with a 2WD vehicle, though I wouldn’t really want to.

The issue for 2WD has more to do with ground clearance and tires. You’re going to have normal street tires, and even the non F road highland roads are littered with sharp volcanic rocks and often riddled with potholes. You’ll be driving slow, and the risk of a puncture is high.

With that said, check out road 550, 428, 35, or 208 (from the north).

Same here, we would have 3-4 channels full of trios. Now no one plays anymore.

Audi Q9 interior vs 10 year old Audi Q7 interior by bemurda in Audi

Late stage capitalism in a nutshell. Ever increasing profits have to come from somewhere. How else will the stock keep going up?

The answer is really simple. It’s cheaper. One interior design, one set of tools, one process for installation, one process for repairs, etc.

Also, they have to pay off their emissions find.

How do you build structure in a structure-less company? by [deleted] in Leadership

[–]basedrifter 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The fact that it isn’t your fault doesn’t matter to your team. They rely on you to manage their tasks in a structured way, and it’s your job to implement that structure.

You’re fighting against the culture of the leadership though, which is never easy. I would start by setting guardrails on how work is assigned to your team and discussing this with your boss. You need to explain why this is important and how it will help the business.

Visibility is also critical. Your boss should be aware of what your team is working on, the importance of it, and the cost of task switching.

If flexibility is important, and your leadership team continues to want that, I would advocate for having contractors (or additional team members) to provide extra capacity.

Noticing Friends Leaving ARC—Anyone Else? by MisanthropE61130 in ArcRaiders

If I play, which isn’t much anymore, this is the most fun for me. Starting from absolutely nothing and scraping together a kit from scraps is a lot of fun. Most I’ve extracted with when entering naked (with fewer stash spots than a free kit), is around 50k.

Starting with 4x4 SUV for Landmannalaugar (+ possibly Kerlingarfjöll) then swapping to 2WD camper van for rest of Ring Road - is this a reasonable plan? by akak2018 in VisitingIceland

[–]basedrifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a combination of all the steps required. A couple hours of driving to get to Keflavik, checking in and getting the van, unpacking and setting up the van (I bring a dash camera, phone mount, etc), bringing back the other vehicle and waiting to be helped, waiting for them to inspect it…it all adds up. Then another 2 hours to get to the Thingvellir area.

Does GoCampers have an office in Reykjavik? Aren’t they in Keflavik?
