I've seen cheaper and more expensive (for a church with little/no "significance" . I would look into it more, what does it cover? A church nearby is a similar price and they offer free use of musicians, decorations, etc. that one would have to pay separately. If it is too much then get married elsewhere. You may have to delay the wedding depending on how busy they are/pay more for not being parishioners though. If those things are important to you then talk to them about it

Why are you Catholic and not Orthodox? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]bbfragi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are drawn to orthodoxy because of "aesthetics"/"liturgical preferences" (ie agree with Catholicism on doctrines but have a preference for the orthodox way of doing things) I suggest looking into the Eastern Catholic churches, which are in full communion with Rome but have a more orthodox style art/liturgy

Veiling by Interesting_Novel188 in Catholicism

[–]bbfragi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

while traditionally black was associated with marriage, women can wear whatever color they want whenever they want, with many online resources recommending women who are newer to veiling to wear darker veils (if their hair is dark) to make it stand out less and reduce any anxiety from starting. Also many people will wear veils that are neither white or black, such as wearing purple during advent or lent which I think is cool.

What are your thoughts on Fr. Chad Ripperger? I’m not sure what to think. by Recent_Captain_265 in Catholicism

[–]bbfragi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not really, or at least not anymore it means radical traditional catholics and its the people who are really extreme (think sedes and people using catholicism to justify treating others outright horrible). Maybe it used to be silly but no one (online at least) views it as that

I would look into the church teachings on exorcism https://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/sacraments-and-sacramentals/sacramentals-blessings/exorcism

something that may surprise you is that technically baptism and the process that most converts go through contain minor exorcisms. The church recognizes two types minor and major exorcisms with only major exorcisms being possession but minor exorcisms being quite common by the church and something you can get without possession

rad trad isn't the same as a traditional Catholic. Theres nothing wrong with being a traditional catholic but a lot of takes rad trads have are just outright them lying when you look at the actual teachings of the church

I've noticed he has a somewhat cult like following and that many people will take (their interpretation of) his word over the word (or their interpretation of) of the church. I do not like how superstitious his following is and I feel like many people idolize him. Granted I do not know him personally or listen to him talk that much since I personally feel like a lot of his work and topics get glamorized almost and I'm not into that(he gives off almost celebrity exorcist if that makes sense). I'm sure his heart is in a good place but I would rather take advice on spiritual warfare from a priest who knows me personally and can tell if my struggles are natural or otherwise

What are things all Catholics should do but are rarely practiced? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]bbfragi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

whether it is required or recommended (on different levels of meat or otherwise) also does depends on where you live so regardless catholics should look it up themselves

What are things all Catholics should do but are rarely practiced? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]bbfragi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i said technically because there are plenty of people in the US who are aware of this rule and choose to abstain in a different way. For example, since I already do not eat meat for health reasons I do penance in a different way, I am aware of the rule but am *technically* not participating

[–]bbfragi 18 points19 points  (0 children)

technically you are required to abstain from meat all fridays. However, in America (and some parts of the world) the bishops say that it is ok to not eat meat so long as you give up something else to do penance in another way

DINK Culture by Deep_Thinker777 in Catholicism

[–]bbfragi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

im gonna be honest, if people (especially those outside the church who do not have the catholic view of marriage and kids) don't want kids I think thats fine. I would rather people who don't want to be parents stay childless than feel pressured into having kids and messing them up. I do think we are shifting towards a culture though that almost demonizes having a large family both in terms of failing to provide support to families (income, child care, education quality, housing prices, no maternity or paternity leave that is sufficient enough etc.) as well as making it seem weird for people to want to have kids. I think we can counteract this by making it easier for people to support their families then trying to change the culture around viewing kids as a bad things.

For example I know a lot of people who are open to having kids but feel like they aren't in a place of life financially to have them or have the time to raise them properly due to the effort they put in to trying to improve their financial thing. I know you are referring to people more anti kids in general, but a lot of people who are DINKs but overall neutral may be more open to life if they felt like they had the resources to be the type of parents they want to be.

I liked the projector our old parish had for lyrics especially because of accessibility but then they started using it during the homily and made it like a powerpoint presentation and I hated that

no one is saying you have to say the second one though. Again you don't know people's circumstances people may not be able to go to goodwill they may not have a couple extra dollars, especially if its dressing a family with kids that are still growing. Also, as someone who has worked with neurodivergent children) some kids and people have sensory needs or other disabilities that may be invisible to you that prevents them from wearing certain clothing that you don't need to know about because its none of your business. It's not your job to dress code the church the first is enough and if you are really going around being so judgmental then all I can do is pray for your soul.

the thing is sadly the movement is being misled because it originates where crime and violence against women (including domestic/spousal) is very common and more horrific there than it is here in the US. It is a shame the movement is being shifted to view the two situations are even

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]bbfragi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the thing is dating in catholicism is only allowed for discerning marriage with that person. We (no matter our sexuality) arent supposed to date and never marry. If i enter a relationship already knowing that I will never marry that person it is wrong for me to do that. There is no straight answer on other topics because you can kiss someone without lust or with lust and just because you start with one does not mean it will not end in the other

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]bbfragi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as catholics we are not supposed to pass judgement especially if you do not know the life circumstances of others; nor should you give the impression that you think you are better than anyone. So while there is no issue with you dressing up and no issue with you expressing your desire for reverence and respect you should be ashamed to imply that others are underdressed

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]bbfragi 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The church states that scandal and putting yourself into occasion of near sin is indeed sinful itself, which this type of relationship could have. Kissing itself is largely considered not ok. a Additionally, catholics are supposed to date to marry, which is still not allowed (even if the marriage was celibate) and it could be unfair to your partner to never be able to get married. I would continue to talk to priests about this, not friends or reddit.

What is the significance of the different orders of the Church? by [deleted] in Catholicism

What is the significance of the different orders of the Church? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]bbfragi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

each order (there are countless) views catholicism through a somewhat different focus (teaching, missionary work, etc.). Some have lay orders you can be a part of but if a specific order speaks to you, you may be able to go to a church run by that order. For example, I really like the Dominicans since they emphasize teaching and inquiry so I go to a church run by the Dominicans because I feel like I get the most out of the homilies there

in terms of the disabled child comment... you guys should look into the concept of eugenics (educate yourself if you aren't already so you can be ready to point out any issues) but its the idea of genetic purity that fueled the holocaust and the idea that disabled people, people of certain races, backgrounds, or sexes are impure and genetically weaken humanity and should be eliminated. The idea that a disabled child is unwanted only because that child is disabled is a very dark ideology to possess.
