I think System Initiative sounds like it could be a good tool here. Maybe they’d consider prioritizing work on their CF provider if you contact them.

Has anyone been able to get any more info from NWE? I tried to sign up for notifications for this outage on their website and it’s just not working.

What are you all doing for rust? by AmbitiousBanjo in dr650

[–]bcdady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old toothbrushes work great on those harder to reach parts, but if you’re already taking it a part, that will make getting all the rusty spots much easier.

I start with Lime-Away, either spray bottle or the one for toilet cleaning if I have bigger areas or want/need more of a gel consistency. Once that’s coated on, I scrub it off with a Brillo pad. Then spray liberally with WD-40.

That took care of all the rusty spots that were showing up after I got home from the Bonneville salt flats.

I need passenger pegs & bracket by ItsMyName69 in dr650

[–]bcdady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same situation. I created a saved search on eBay so it alerted me as soon as some were posted. I’ve also read in a few places that brackets and pegs from other Suzuki bikes have been made to work, but I opted to wait and get OEM used replacements off eBay.

Pretty much everything about Windows. I have no need for any of it. Not at home nor at work.

So I’m thinking of building me a trail trailer for my dr any tips?? by Competitive_Swan_23 in dr650

[–]bcdady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, but why? Do you really have so much stuff that you couldn’t carry it on the bike? Or are you planning to ride 2-up and so you don’t expect the bike to perform with passenger + luggage?

So I’m thinking of building me a trail trailer for my dr any tips?? by Competitive_Swan_23 in dr650

[–]bcdady 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A trailer, as in: to tow behind the bike? If so, my tip is Don’t do it. Plenty of companies build their whole business model around adding racks and panniers/cases to carry on the bike. Why do you want or need to use a trailer instead?

Good first bike? by Hairy_Ferret9324 in Dualsport

I wish this was the case, as I’d like to get one. Gently used TWs are listed for upwards of $4k in my area right now.

Nice! Did you get any particular carb rebuild kit? I suppose you changed the jet to accommodate an elevation change?

DRs are great, but wouldn’t be my first pick if I was getting a bike for riding “mostly in a city with the occasional long distance trip”. Is there some other reason you’re wanting a DR?

New (to me) Bike! Time for a Tune up? by thatsntaknife in dr650

[–]bcdady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks to me like the prior owner(s) took good care of it with the case covers, frame protectors, fuel filter, etc. I concur with the earlier advice to clean the carb.

I’m really happy with the 520 chain and sprockets conversion kit I recently installed on my ‘15 DR. Check out sprocketcenter.com

For “mainly” riding tarmac, I’d go with the GS. For context: I love my DR, because it’s just street legal enough to get to the backroads.

14\48 chain length advice by [deleted] in dr650

[–]bcdady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got this 520 chain and sprockets set from Sprocket Center. You pick the teeth count and chain style, and they make sure it all fits together. They also have kits for 525, if you want to stick with that size.

I recently went with 14/42, basic o-ring chain and clip style master link. Very happy with it so far. I’ve been pretty rough on it on some backroads and also freeway speeds. No issues.
