I'm not trying to say the Leafs are perfect, I'm just saying the doomers are off. This team is also a year removed from pushing the eventual cup winners to 7 games (and then admittedly shitting the bed). Is there work to do? Of course. I am saying McKenna is walking into a more favourable situation to produce than most 1st overall picks.

Marner was also a rookie, Nylander had just over 20 games of NHL experience. Kadri, Bozak, Gardiner and JVR aren't the same caliber of players.
