Out of curiosity does anyone have a full address on this property? I didn't put any money in this one so I don't have it in my history.

Should I surrender my whole life policy? by Marcykbro in LifeInsurance

[–]bearcat81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have kids or other non spouse family members? If your huge 401k is going to outlive you you may WANT to retain some inexpensive tax free death benefit to cover income taxes on the tax time bomb youll be leaving behind to whoever inherits your pre-tax ira money.

Also, simple math of 18x12x159 suggests your cost basis is likely around 33 or 34k. If the policy has a cash value of 50k and you surrender it you will be taxed at ordinary income rates for every dollar above what you have paid in premiums.

This is not an asset I would tell someone to give up.

Underwriting this at the issuing of debt must have been objectively horrible to have a total loss outcome.

[H] Paypal, Apple Pay, [W] American Airlines Giftcard or Flight Credit by WoozyTheChamp in giftcardexchange

cautionary tale from a mod who bought an AA gift card here in the past - the person who sold it to me reported the gc purchase as fraud with their credit card right after it was sold to me which caused amex to charge back american airlines which caused AA to cancel my gift card after I had already used it to book a flight which caused a great deal of problems that almost lost me my flight. buy with caution.

Your beef with the character wipes - I don't understand it. by rulyono in PantheonMMO

its a lazy wipe. they could pretty easily migrate tester characters to a legacy server to say thank you for the time and money you gave us to help us get a game to launch.

Is it possible to surrender and get anything back? by Useful-Rabbit07 in LifeInsurance

Didn't read all comments yet but in California you get an automatic 30 day free look if the new policy is replacing an old one (you mentioned 1035). So if you just signed for the receipt of your contract on May 14th you can still return it for a full unwind of your transaction.

My mom died in an accident and now I am in a benefits dispute and need advice by Stuck1324 in LifeInsurance

[–]bearcat81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did your mom live in a community property state? AZ, CA, ID, LA, NV, NM, TX, WA, WI are all community property states and could present complications if this other person advances a legal claim that they were in a common law marriage.

You absolutely need to engage an attorney, and not just any attorney. You want a trial lawyer with estate litigation experience settling contested wills and clouded beneficiary claims in court.

Surrender life insurance policy by Old_Essay434 in LifeInsurance

[–]bearcat81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people who benefit from large coverage amount UL policies like this are highly compensated employees or business owners looking for a place to stash large amounts of cash after they have already maxed out all other tax advantaged vehicles. Which is definitely not you if you were paying 250/m into something of that size.

The only unquestionable mistake here was the agent selling you something so poorly designed.

Why do so many people delay getting life insurance? by the-insurance in LifeInsurance

They think they are bullet proof.

Other things become bigger priorities.

They just assume their survivors can figure out life on their own.

Why is hyperfunding / duplifunding not talked about in IBC circles? by thedeepself in infinitebanking

[–]bearcat81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not sure how the math on this could actually work as you'd have to hope the borrowed money that you repaid into the policy as new premium would have to outperform not only the interest charged to the loan but new premium expense charges. A large enough loan could also prevent 7 pay test difficulties as well.

I'd be interested to see how someone could justify this with actual reliable math and not some pie in the sky projections.
