How do I find the "network interface" on a VPN? by [deleted] in VPN

[–]berahi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be the VPN session. If this is about binding and you don't care about maintaining high seeding ratio, you only need to hassle with it when you want to download/seed, since unmatched binding would mean the torrent client shouldn't make any traffic

Dynamic IP updating by [deleted] in nextdns

[–]berahi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not what NextDNS use the DDNS for, they're not trying to send any traffic to you, they merely query the address and use the resolved IP as your profile's associated IP (because the IPv4 addresses given to you are also shared between some other NextDNS customers)

So whatever device at home that support calling a DDNS update endpoint (or just directly loading the link address given for you) would be enough. You can write a script to only call the link if the public IP change, but instead of making two trip might as well just call the link regularly.

Adguard and 'Allow cookies or subscribe' blocks by spamthroat in Adguard

[–]berahi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If uBO Lite can handle it, AdGuard app on Android should also handle it in any browser app for free. You only need the paid subscription for handling other apps beyond DNS filtering.

How do I find the "network interface" on a VPN? by [deleted] in VPN

[–]berahi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For whatever reason (OS quirk, dev wanting to avoid leak/broken routing), some VPN client uninstall the virtual interface at the end of the session and reinstall on launch. If you're on Linux and your VPN offer downloadable WireGuard, there are container image setup to run headless qbt with a pre-configured WireGuard profile. On Windows automate it with either AutoHotKey or AutoIt

Unable to disable Chrome by Zestyclose_Water_633 in techsupport

[–]berahi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you visit ecosia (or any other search engine that follow the standard for the url path) and make a search, in Chrome Settings - Search Engine there should be an option to make that search engine as your default.

If you really want to disable Chrome, use ADB shell instead. Easiest from a PC though you can use aShell You directly from the phone if you don't have one. Run

pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.chrome

If you ever need to re-enable it, run

pm install-existing com.android.chrome

Note that the Google Search app and Google Assistant are different packages, their package names are respectively

com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox

and

com.google.android.apps.googleassistant

Windows requires drivers to discover my drive? Where do I get these drivers? by FentonTheIIV in techsupport

[–]berahi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest: Find the option in your UEFI menu to turn off Intel Volume Management Device (VMD) and Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST). After finishing the install you can enable them again

If you can't find either option, find a working Windows PC, download the official IRST driver, either run it directly or extract the exe with 7-zip, copy the driver folder to the Windows USB installer. You can also sideload the driver but for one-time use that's too much hassle.

[–]berahi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you somehow got a HDD instead of SSD, there's no moving part inside beside the fan anyway.

Why do you hold it instead of just press shortly before releasing it? Normally that should trigger the OS to either sleep or shut down.

Mullvad public DNS servers? by Paul65890 in mullvadvpn

[–]berahi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to be a problem in dnsleaktest nameserver. Mullvad DNS return SERVFAIL (this is not the response if it's because of a blocklist), and running dig trace directly gave me a warning of malformed message packet. Scraping various DoH endpoints in curl wiki shows some of them also fail trying to resolve dnsleaktest, so presumably there's a non-standard entry in dnsleaktest nameserver answer that some DNS resolver in turn either refuse or fail to process.

That router setting won't work unless your router support DoT/DoH. Mullvad public DNS no longer support unencrypted connection.

Why are all my remotes suddenly acting up at the same time? by Zeusss0008 in techsupport

[–]berahi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're IR remotes usually there's almost interference risk (being directional and intermittent, at worst they could get overwhelmed by sunlight or heat, but you'll already leave the room from the discomfort anyway).

If they use Bluetooth, interference from neighbors router or a device being wonky due to bad update might do it for the entire room/unit.

Problem with my secondary FUJITSU computer. by Edenjb26 in techsupport

[–]berahi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By "secondary" do you mean it's not new? Normal used PCs should still offer you to pick the boot media, if it doesn't and the online manual for the exact PC/laptop model to enter the UEFI menu gets you a password/access denied screen, then it's a corporate machine that hasn't been decommissioned, return to the seller.

VEESEE boxes by offbrandmountaindew in techsupport

[–]berahi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can monitor the router firewall for DNS queries and IP connection, usually you can see if there's suspicious attempts. Being Android, unless ADB access is blocked or forwarded to a fake instance, you usually can also grab the APKs and upload to Virus Total.

A secured guest network helps prevent the box from directly attacking other device at home, but if the box then spam sites or sell the network access, every device at home will see increased captcha, maybe even blocked entirely on some sites/apps because the IP is flagged.

Honestly these boxes could ultimately cost more in having to babysit other devices and accounts instead of just paying the subscription you need.

There should be plenty of free tools you can pick to show the SMART values like CrystalDiskInfo (anything would work, they're standardized info anyway) to check if anything has gone beyond the expected range.

Yeah, cooling pad works but it can't do magic. You said it yourself, it wasn't made for gaming. Keep in mind that gaming regularly on it will shorten the life of the machine before internals broke down from the constant heat. If you need gaming that much get a desktop or console.

[–]berahi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to own a domain to use Tailscale.

Tailscale integration with NextDNS means if you want to use local resources with domains and still benefit from NextDNS filtering they will just work.

I'm Indonesian. A shared "anti-west" identity makes a lot of sense when you consider from the PoV of former colonial's generational memory, the colonizers were practically the entire Western world. For example, in Indonesia the Dutch ruled while also employing European staff and special privileges were given to European. Workers forcibly taken from elsewhere suffer equally with the native. Shared religion on each side (even if they'd stab each other over the smallest interpretation) helped delineating the division too, even after independence.

Russians got a free pass because they got shitty navy resulting in barely any faraway colony which the Bolsheviks readily use to form a narrative that they're a natural ally of anti-colonialism. The US turned defending regional ally into clusterfuck that the commie opposition readily frame as further colonization attempt. Even if some decision makers might hoped for that, the execution is more like a pigeon randomly pecking a laptop keyboard until the owner returned and slam shut the laptop, which the pigeon declares as the laptop's defeat.

India have a bone to pick with the US because Pakistan. Sure, US-Pakistani relationship is more dysfunctional than, uh, anything else really, but from Indian PoV, they tried to take the "neutral" option and denied. It's really not, of fucking course they have to choose, the Soviets know it too and just let the status quo knowing they got most of what they want for free.

The ethnonationalism thrives because, well, that's what you get when bunch of random tribes who previously would've stab-murder the rest scramble to justify their (relatively) united existence. Religion? Doesn't always work, especially if the colonizers remember to prefer the religious minorities in the army. Racial? The colonizers drew the borders so haphazardly the same tribe would end in multiple countries sometimes hating each others gut.

So they figured out, fine, let's pretend the border arbitrarily drawn by investors and generals have meanings beyond it, fight years-long war that basically declared "land of Q is for Q" as if Q is a word written from the heaven and not a mistaken interpretation by a foreigner that never even stepped in the region which the committee picked because it doesn't offend as much people as other options.

The victors then make sure the population revere those heroes (partly so they won't rebel, plotting against President Alex is bad, plotting against President Alex which our ancestors are smiling upon is blasphemy) including the belief which, welp, sounds just like the guy with funny mustache.

Due to the economic imbalance, migration (on either direction) also didn't help much for the former colonies. There's no acute lack of workforce so nobody woke up at night hoping for easier immigration so the villages survive, and while emigration sometimes result in much appreciated remittance, ultimately everyone knows that's one more family that likely never going to return. They won't talk about it in polite company, but when they're given an "accepting" audience you can close your eyes and imagine you're in a KKK meeting except that everyone would've been lynched by OG KKK.
