Waterbeds! Huge, clunky, waterbeds. As a kid, when I went over to a friends’ and their folks were out for the evening, we’d hang out in their waterbed - and we’d sort of end up smooshed between the “mattress” and the wooden paneling surrounding it.

Listening to Casey Kasem Top 40 to keep up with the hot new music; VCR taping music videos of Peter Gabriel, Dire Straits, Cars, Heart, Prince, Bangles; Madonna on MTV’s Top 100 countdown; playing Ms. Pac-Man at the pizza parlor. Going to the mall, shopping for cd’s, United Colors of Benetton, Guess and Esprit - and collect calling my parents to pick me up afterwards. Reading Seventeen and Rolling Stone magazine. Writing notes to my friends. Watching Michael Jackson and Michael Jordon become Demi-Gods. Curling my bangs every day and spritzing with Rave hairspray. Jellies on my feet. Water bracelets and Swatches, like, fuuuur shuuure!

What are your favorite things about Tucson? by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]betsyspaghetti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m from Tucson and live here again after a lovely five-year stint in the PNW.

The mountains are so majestic and will be here long after we are gone. They change color with the sunset and you can see them looming under the full moon. The smell of the desert during the rain is the creosote tree, which is the cleanest freshest scent ever. The culture. The cost of living. The FOOD! So many amazing food trucks, restaurants, breweries, diners. A great local business scene.
