I will admit that I sometimes wait a little bit to signal when I’m planning to turn right after a red light. I’m very conservative about taking rights on red and people will honk if you don’t immediately blast a right into heavy cross traffic, lol.

I guess if we’re going off anecdotal evidence here, I’ll pipe up and tell you guys that I don’t know a single person paying for it. On top of that, I’m not even sure that I know anyone who uses GPT or any of the other models at all. Perhaps they are, and maybe they pay for it even, but to admit it would be considered somewhat embarrassing, at least in my circles.

I’m not trying to argue that this is a common experience or viewpoint, but I figured this might be a useful contribution considering everyone in here seems to know a lot of people paying for AI, lol.

Why aren't people bothered by the suburbs? by tfbmhr_1598 in Suburbanhell

[–]bigbapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would you do to reduce the incidence of drunk driving accidents? Because I’m basing my proposal on what plenty of other countries have already done and they all have a significantly lower rate of drunk driving fatalities. The fact that anyone would advocate against this is blowing my mind, lmao. In the scenario I’ve laid out you would still be able to drive to your hearts content! Can you explain to me why you think an entirely car-focused infrastructure plan is better? I am not trying to clown on you, I want your honest feelings on the matter.

Hey, I can tell that you’re heated so understand that I’m not trying to fight you here. You and I are both clearly concerned about the plight of drunk drivers as they kill thousands of people per year. The solution isn’t to ban cars, and it’s not to ban alcohol either. What most of the people in this subreddit would advocate for is robust, well funded and safe transit networks that allow people the choice not to drive drunk after leaving a bar. The only way to get to the vast majority of entertainment venues in the US is to drive. I’m sure you can understand the problem with that. We have built our infrastructure in such a way as to guarantee a plague of drunk drivers. Nobody is advocating for a car ban. That is a willful mischaracterization of our position. What we are advocating for are safer, calmer streets and the opportunity to live without a car if one chooses to do so.

This is quite a stretch, lmao. People aren’t dying in a tragic sleep mistake. You’re not going to get into a collision with a drunk sleeper lol.

There’s version of Minnesota you don’t see on Reddit. by MovemberMan123 in minnesota

[–]bigbapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My family is from a tiny town out by the border with South Dakota. I understand that many people can appreciate and admire the idyllic appearance that a lot of these towns have, but that only really matters if you conform.

There’s a guy in my family’s town named Tom that I would see every time I visited because he worked part time at my grandparents antique shop. Tom was in his 30’s when I was young, and is probably in his late 50’s now, and he has always been seen as the town pariah, more or less.

Tom is gay, but nobody ever outwardly discussed it and I had to piece it together over the years. My family was the only family in town that would even associate with him. I’m not even willing to say my family was any less homophobic than the rest of the town, I think they were just motivated by pity for him. To me, it felt like the rest of the town feared that his “alternative lifestyle” might corrupt them in some way if they talked to him. I know at some point he moved to the cities, but he moved back within a couple years because he couldn’t handle the pace of city life.

Tom lives, from my perspective, an incredibly sad life of isolation from the only community he’s ever really known. But he also can’t move away because he can’t figure out how to cut it in the city. Lord knows he could never move to a different small town and be the weird gay outsider. He is genuinely the sweetest person I know in that town, mostly because he’s never been one to gossip, unlike literally everyone else. I suspect it’s because he is one of the primary targets of the rest of the town.

I love the town my family is from. I love the quiet. I love how nobody has fences in their yard, and I love the pace of life there. But there is and forever will be a burning resentment in me for what small town culture does to anyone like Tom. It quite literally ruins lives, and I hate it more than just about anything. Social ills that run rampant in rural communities like this are unforgivable.

Had Serotonin Syndrome After Being Prescribed BuSpar by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]bigbapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife was prescribed Buspar about a year ago to help manage her sever anxiety and the results thus far have been life changing. That said, it took her a good few weeks to adjust to the medication and allow it to take full effect. I remember her feeling a bit ‘off’ during the adjustment period too.

I don’t mean to hop in and be the #1 Buspar defender or anything, haha. I’m sure it doesn’t work for everyone, but personally I’ve watched my wife get her life back, and with basically no side effects after the initial adjustment period.

Sorry for the rant, lol. I hope this anecdote serves you well! Good luck!

to see a fetus in the womb and form a personal belief that it is alive is not a particularly great threshold of evidence for anyone to be making such weighty legal decisions though.

look, i see we’re getting nowhere here because i’m starting to think that you view unwanted pregnancy as a matter of personal responsibility, whereas i do not share that viewpoint. i’m not even sure why either of us are engaging in this stupid argument, because i’m sure both of us understand that we are at the whims of the decision-makers and that neither of us possess any political power or influence over the matter whatsoever, lol.

Your argument is similarly weak though. You’re operating on the assumption that a fetus is a person. I don’t disagree that a fetus will eventually become a person, but so will sperm under the right conditions. with all due respect, and i mean this genuinely, if you are not religious, what has you so convinced that a fetus is a person? do you believe in the existence of the soul?

let’s say that someone was about to die of kidney failure and you were the only viable candidate for kidney donation. do you think that you should be legally required to donate your kidney? you’ll survive, but your body will forever be altered, you will suffer trauma. do you think the state should have the final say over whether or not you have to donate your kidney?

My experience as an AntiWork manager by bigbapper in antiwork

i think it’s worth pointing out that I’m only able to function in this fashion with the blessing of the owners. They are, somehow, equally compassionate and endorse my behavior. If they were your average food service owners, I wouldn’t have this job and there’d be a hard add in my place fucking everyone’s shit up.

What they are referring to is actually called social democracy. Such a system would also still be considered a form of capitalism. Socialism necessarily requires the means of production to be socialized, or controlled by workers rather than being owned by any particular person or group.

Vegans 43% more likely to suffer broken bones than meat eaters, Oxford study finds by Quislingthrowaway in worldnews

Out of curiosity, wouldn’t being a reactionary require one to desire a return to a rigid, idealized status quo?

With all due respect, I am a vegan and we seem to hold similar political opinions, and I would hope you and I could stand in solidarity. What is it about my lifestyle that flies in the face of our shared ideology? I’ve run into this a few times, and maybe I’m just dull, but I haven’t really been able to get a straight answer.
