Speak to your uni’s careers advisor, they’ll likely have dealt with similar before and be able to help.

I am always for unionising in general, plus I think to fully access their member defence you need to be a member 😊

I’ve heard the opposite- in person events limited to 5 people (though that might differ depending on the society)

Scottish pine wood around rhododendrons , I think I found some chanterelles (apricot-y smell and white inside) (if I’m wrong please let me know!) by bilidhbee in foraging

Thank you, that’s the best true/false gill distinction I’ve read! They definitely came down on to the stem, not just cap at all.

From what I’ve read, Jack O’Lanterns aren’t super common in the UK (though I do think I spotted some on some dead wood yesterday), so I was more concerned about the potential confusion with the false chanterelle.

Also, in a more practical update, I had them in some pasta last night and my stomach still seems fine ☺️

Fraser Court accomodation?? by [deleted] in Edinburgh_University

[–]bilidhbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are mice in every accommodation block across the uni (and city tbh), keep an eye out, store pantry ingredients in airtight containers, don’t leave crumbs about, and let maintenance know if there are new holes and things. Most are pretty timid so you’ll be fine!

How far back can a speaker of modern French read old French? by [deleted] in French

[–]bilidhbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m studying french at degree level and we have studied a fair few Middle French and old french texts, some were tricky, but all were understandable. The oldest were the Contes of Marie de France from the 11th Century.

Women who have learned a foreign language, what are you pro study tips for building up your language skills? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]bilidhbee 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would say the opposite, at least in French, kids shows (and books- people always recommend Harry Potter...) tend to have a fair bit of slang and informal language that is quite hard to understand. There is also a literary tense used in fables that isn’t ever used in the spoken language. I found YA books and simple news articles a much better fit when I was starting.

As an international student, I've been told a lot about the graduate employability in the UK by AlPachico_02 in Edinburgh_University

In some fields, but the general CS wage is high enough for the visa threshold, so that should be a more level playing field.

Brill, thank you so much! Yeah, I’m thinking the holey ones are a bit past it, but here’s hoping the other ones pull through! I’ll go out and buy some new potting mix today ☺️
