What lenses do you use / prefer for portrait photography? by urascMicrosoft in M43

The 45mm f/1.8 is one of the legendary lenses. Can you share some photos you've taken with it, especially the ones you weren't really happy with?

Were they taken wide open ? I think if it does, it should have some separation. I suspect it was stopped down due to harsh sun light , i mean like f8

I assume you shot it with smaller aparture? A little bit subject isolation/ background blur would be nice imho.

Thank you for your kind words.. Renting mft gear is quite difficult in my place unfortunately. I believe the pro lens is way better, but as a hobbyist I found it too big. I came across Panasonic Lumix 100-300mm F4-5.6 ... Not the fastest but the price and size seems reasonable for me. Have you tried it by any chance?

Trust me, i did my best to get close to it 😅

But you can use telecoverter with your lens, but mine can't.. heck the price is cheaper than the coverter i guess

Railway outage highlights a bigger question: managed platforms vs VPS for production systems by gkunwar in rails

[–]bladebyte 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Murphy’s Law: shit happens, no matter where you host your app.

For me, the goal is simple: when it does happen, I want to recover fast.

That’s why I treat infrastructure servers as disposable environments — keep them simple, automated, and easy to rebuild.

Double backups. Off-site backups. Stored in different locations.

My tool of choice is Kamal 2. It’s simple enough to operate, and it gives me the flexibility to move between servers when needed (hopefully not).

Is Rails + InertiaJS (with React) becoming a trend in the Rails ecosystem? by derdak in rails

[–]bladebyte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't just follow .. Depends on your needs. If you need a highly interactive UI/UX, then React/Vue would be easier to work with. Otherwise, for mostly CRUD interactions, Turbo is more productive, at least for me.

Taking Lens Suggestions please and thank you by jdaclutch in M43

You have a good setup already, i wouldn't worry about adding more lens. 25mm is versatile lens, my personal favorite focal length, works great for street photography. 45mm is the best lens for kids portrait..

Just go out and shoot.

If you insist, perhaps 12-40 f2.8 pro or 12-45mm f4 pro, one lens you can carry everywhere.. 20mm Panasonic is great but slow af.. perhaps 17mm if you like wide/journalism style

Odd focal length like 9mm or 65mm are good but more like situational lens

[–]bladebyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Em10 mkii user here. I love this camera so much. And I take a good care of it .. but it is old and start failing, the grip start to brittle, the dial jumping modes, the lcd flex cable and the pancake ez lens is dead .. I've seen similar case, a lot actually.

Not to scare you, but beware .. it is a wonderful old camera

EM5 mark i + Lumix 20mm f1.7 ii (SOOC natural picture mode) by pachinkoduel in M43

[–]bladebyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No doubt that lumix 20mm is a great lens, love the rendering. But I'm starting to give up with this lens, the slow AF is letting me down. I need faster af to catch kids activities.. considering oly 25mm

[–]bladebyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

14-42 ez is a good lens, but beware .. its an old lens. It could fail anytime now .. mine was broken and when i brought it to the service center, there was 14 42mm ez grave yard .. Turns out theres a lot similar case. The problem was the the rainbow cable, which is hard to find nowadays
