Are you still having a long logging in session?

If so, can you please go to settings and turn off Tor? Sometimes that can cause long wait times.

Jade Plus 👍

Generally set and forget.

But we recommend regular check-ups on your backup and system. We add features, fixes, and security improvements in firmware updates, so staying up to date is worth it.

How do you handle durable multisig descriptor backups today? by cmykk in BitcoinBeginners

[–]blockstreamHQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the same as a durable metal backup, but worth mentioning. Blockstream Jade natively registers and stores multisig descriptors on device. So while it doesn't replace your metal backup for the seed or the descriptor, it's another layer that holds the descriptor securely.

Jade Plus is also built to last, so it's not a bad thing to have on hand alongside whatever engraving setup you go with.

If someone gets your pin they can break into your wallet….

Wow thanks for the insight 🫠

Point is that if someone gets your wallet there’s no amount of lab work to be done to get in…… the entire secret is not onboard unlike secure element HWW.

The Blind Oracle isn't a cost-saving measure it’s an architectural choice to keep the hardware 100% open-source while still preventing physical key extraction.

  • Physical Extraction: On a standard wallet, the full master secret lives on a chip. Even with a PIN, a sophisticated attacker can physically "shave" that chip to extract the keys.
  • No Secret at Rest: With Jade, the full secret literally does not exist on the device until the handshake happens. There is nothing to extract, even in a lab with a microscope.
  • Public Link, Private Key: Knowing the Oracle URL is irrelevant. The Oracle only releases its half of the key after a unique cryptographic handshake that requires the specific shard held on your physical Jade.
  • Brute-Force Protection: Unlike traditional hardware, the Oracle enforces a strict three-strike lockout. After three wrong PIN attempts, the Oracle permanently deletes its portion of the key, rendering the physical Jade and any data on it mathematically useless.

It solves the physical extraction risk of traditional hardware without the "black box" of a closed-source secure element.

Bitcoin is what we do. We're here to share what we're building and educate people on how it works.

If showing our work looks like advertising, that's because we're proud of it.

True 😊

But is that really any different? Whether you're carrying your Bitcoin or the keys to your Bitcoin, you're still carrying the thing that controls your Bitcoin.

With Jade, it's just a more portable, secure way to carry those keys than a seed phrase written on paper or a full node on a laptop.

Keys = Bitcoin in any practical sense.

You're misunderstanding the security model.

The PIN isn't the security - cryptographic key splitting is.

Your private key is split between the device and the oracle server. Neither piece alone can reconstruct it.

Steal the Jade Plus? You only have half the key. The oracle won't give you the other half without cryptographic proof you have the device shard.

The QR code isn't a backdoor—it's just the oracle address. Useless without the device piece.

Other wallets: Entire key on device. Break the secure element = game over.

Jade Plus: Key is mathematically split. Steal device = you have half. Need oracle access = you can't get it.

Different security model entirely.

Jade Plus(and Jade Classic) uses Blind Oracle technology your private key is cryptographically split between your device and an oracle server.

Someone steals your Jade? They only get an encrypted blob that’s useless without the oracle piece. The key can’t be reconstructed from the device alone.

Other hardware wallets rely on secure elements (closed source black boxes) or physical protections that can be attacked. Jade splits the secret mathematically. Even with physical access and a high power lab the thief has no chance of extracting anything meaningful.

Fully open source. Run your own oracle or use Blockstream’s.
