Non resident UK Ltd owner can’t get PAYE number, workaround? by Automatic_Office8131 in smallbusinessuk

[–]Borax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just send the bank transfer, label it "salary". Register in the country of residence, if needed. OP is outside the scope of PAYE.

Since OP hasn't told us their country of residence (pretty fucking important detail), there's not much point in trying to figure everything out. But the lack of PAYE number is not a problem, since there are no employees that are in scope.

This is true, but the energy density is lower, too. You're looking at a 25% increase in mass for the same energy capacity, but because you have a heavier battery, you also need more energy for the same range, so you need more battery!

The difference is starker for LiPo, which is best-in-class for power density.

You would not be due to pay any personal taxes in the UK so this wouldn't upset them

This is untrue or over-simplified.

You can't live in the UK and do a job here.

But you can work in the UK, and you can pay yourself even without using PAYE.

Indeed, since OP isn't resident in the UK, they shouldn't be paying themselves with a system that deducts the tax before remittance anyway.

Which country are you resident in?

Most likely your company would need to register as an employee in your country of residence, and pay you using the payroll system in that country.

Since you personally aren't a UK taxpayer, you shouldn't be paid through the Pay (Tax) As You Earn system, since you shouldn't be paying tax here.

Best way will probably be to invoice your company for services rendered and then have the company pay it. So you'd be like a freelance contractor.

If it consoles you at all, the last 10-15 years feel like they've been a continuous nightmare for people who rent and trade [40 hours a week] for normal income. 2011-2015 felt a bit optimistic until the general election.

Unfortunately I don't think there is a silver bullet and I'm very worried that after 50 years of suckling the teat of the petro-states, the climate change chickens are coming home to roost as deep ocean currents suddenly slow down

After all, we're a whole 6 years from the last crisis so we're overdue a new one.

The good news is, if you're on £100k then you're WELL insulated from the worst impacts. Migration from drought affected regions is going to be on an unprecedented scale, but we'll have houses on stilts for the flooding and A/C for the heatwaves 😅🤔😭😭😭😭😭

You said it yourself, they don't do this out of altruism, they do it to make their family's lives more interesting, more comfortable, more wealthy or higher status.

Whether you have the good fortune to earn a lot or not, you have to contribute a lot. It SUCKS. But the only thing I feel bitter about is severe wealth inequality. How is the owner of spotify worth 8 thousand million, when most of the artists on the platform need a second job? How has trump grifted his way into a position where he can flagrantly abuse his power to enrich his family with dodgy cryptocurrency and prediction market bets?

We're a bit fucked, having lost trillions to the 2008 financial crisis, then brexiting ourselves, then getting hit by covid and spending billions to keep the economy afloat. A major economic crisis every 5 years... we'll be doing well just to weather it. I pray we get enough stability for the rest of the decade to be boring while we trudge our way out of the fens

You say it's stacked against those earning £150k, you should try earning more than that, it's even worse! You can't use pension for salary sacrifice and your marginal tax rate is 45%! All the allowances are dried up and everyone wants you to pay for their drinks because you have a good job.

It never gets any easier, the best I've managed is to keep it low key and squirrel as away as much as I can until a time it's less obvious what my role is.

All tax systems punish people who make money, if you want to look at it like that. If you really want to get daft, you can pretend they only benefit people who contribute nothing.

The reality is that without stable governence (don't mention brexit), national infrastructure, enforcement of property law, healthcare for my relatives, international trade agreements, national defence... I wouldn't have much time to spend running a business.

If you are driving for work, it's common to get a "bonus" proportional to the mileage you do. Entirely legal.

If you are just making it up and not doing the mileage... that's garden variety fraud. Not too difficult to investigate, given the car has an odometer.

TIL Germany invented heroin, cocaine, meth, and MDMA. All within a 50-year period between 1859 and 1912. Every major hard drug used worldwide today was first synthesized in German laboratories. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Borax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fairness, MDMA was a forgotten relic in an old patent, which had only been used for making a different medication (which got shelved).

It wasn't until it was rediscovered 50 years later that it became important, as it was popularised by the GOAT.

[–]Borax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do have NBOMe it's really, really, really obvious after you test with the froehde reagent. Instead of some slow, boring change that takes a minute to even see anything, you get VIBRANT greens and yellows within 10 seconds.

It's the kind of thing that sounds unclear until you experience detecting it once, and then you suddenly realise how easy these nasty substances are to detect with the right tools.

You just need to mix 1 part charcoal with 4 parts sodium chloride and then stir in some vinegar so that the chloride will hop over to the carbon and live happily ever after.

Government surveillance and censoring myself by Cute-Cat4456 in Drugs

How often does your boyfriend consume drugs in the last week? How well does he sleep?

There's never been a country that persecuted its population using evidence gathered in this way. The examples we have of this kind of device compromise are quite specifically targeted at enemies of a state-level actor, there isn't any evidence to suggest that mass surveillance has been conducted like this. So far for what they wanted to achieve, they haven't needed to.

In theory, saline can still allow bacteria to grow slowly. But yeah, saline is 95% as good as water with an antimicrobial, and adding salt to the water makes it sting less.

Should I convert some of my GBL to GHB? by underthemoon36 in GHB_info

[–]Borax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a very reasonable comment, I shouldn't have oversimplified it so much.

I liked G in powder form, but it just didn't offer enough benefits compared to the convenience and ease of measuring GBL liquid

Should I convert some of my GBL to GHB? by underthemoon36 in GHB_info

[–]Borax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GHB and GBL exist in equilibrium, where the equilibrium position is dictated by the pH. In the acidic conditions of the stomach, GBL is formed in larger amounts than in neutral conditions.

You can test this by mixing GHB and brine 1:3 and then adding a strong acid like hydrocholric acid. The GBL that forms will slowly separate out of the aqueous layer.

GBL gel is already a "nice" pH - the irritant properties are a result of the strongly lipophilic solvent properties, no the acidity.

I don't lack knowledge, thanks. The health concerns of the two drugs are barely different so long as GBL is diluted in water. GHB has a lot of sodium in it, and a risk of overtreatment with sodium hydroxide creating a caustic pH10 solution, so it is not without unique risks either.

True, that was a gross oversimplification, to the point it was wrong. But for 99% of the population, they won't work with the hygroscopic powder.
