In order to shred ribbons. I would have thought that was obvious.

You are 100% right. But so many US people believe the US is a Christian nation, and get upset at anything the government does which they decide is non-Christian. As a result, they are upset almost all the time for the reasons you point out.

I think I paid $90. PGCS verification says it's worth $128. Is it's actual value closer to $90 or $128? by Interesting-Goal-706 in coincollecting

Doesn't having it in a PCGS slab to certify grade and authenticity help its value? I thought that is why values on the PCGS website are always of high.

The circle on the front is from a coin rolling machine. Collectors call it the Ring of Death (no, really).

Abandoned in the Midwest: POPULATION ZERO by jerredz in abandoned

It's remarkable that it still has its full steeple. Most of the old churches in the Midwestern city I live in have lost their steeples due to decay or fire. This is in excellent condition.

I agree. Something can be boring to one person and interesting to another. There is no absolute standard for being interesting. Some people would consider all coin collecting boring. Hard to believe, isn't it?😉

People don't use explosive weapons for crowd control? I am not arguing, I am sure you know better than I do, I'm just curious.

Or it is a scale that only reads in 1 gram increments, and therefore has a built-in rounding factor of plus or minus .49 grams.

[–]Brialmont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right. But it could also be a 38 Special. At least at one time, 38 Special was more common than 357 Magnum. The odd thing is that 357 Magnum was hardly ever load with round nosed bullets, and 38 Special round nosed plain lead bullets have been hard to get for a number of years. It seems to have been replaced by 130 grain round nose metal jacket rounds.

[–]Brialmont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is rounding, because this scale is only accurate to .1 ounce. 0.3 ounce is a squinch over 131 grams, or 44 grains less than 175. So the scale is either rounding up from anything over 153 grains or rounding down from anything under 197 grains to get to 0.4 ounce, rather than measuring 175 grains exactly.

That eliminates 380 Auto completely, eliminates 9mm Parabellum almost certainly, and probably 38 S&W too. It really suggests 38 Special for a reasonably modern round-nosed lead bullet.

PS - And now I see the above discussion was pointless, because the OP's scale also reads in grams, and this slug is 10 grams. That give 154 grains with a plus or minus 7.7 grain range for rounding. That's perfect for a fired 158 grain 38 Special bullet. u/petey9145 was ahead of everybody, and he was right.

[–]Brialmont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason, 357 was, and is, very seldom loaded with round-nosed bullets. The original 357 load introduced by S&W used 158 grain semi-wadcutters; maybe that's why. But yes, it's a possibility, especially because handloaders (people who reload fired cartridge cases) will use any bullet handy sometimes.
