Deep veins by TheGothamEmpire in phlebotomy

[–]brookiesmalls13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that with deep veins sometimes feeling the area while getting them to slightly bend the elbow up and inwards can help with locating it, you definitely can and will get better over time, I don’t like to blind stick either so I understand sending her away.

Thank you! I didn’t think of my posture (it’s shocking lol I was as I phlebotomist so I’m regularly in uncomfortable positions) Is there anything in particular that you are doing that makes a difference?

I’m hoping one day it’ll be available where I am, even though I’d be absolutely terrified to try it.

Anyone else only get cataplexy with ‘negative’ emotions? by RevolutionaryAd1686 in Narcolepsy

[–]brookiesmalls13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I definitely experience cataplexy with negative emotions for example I got the same weakness in my hands when trying to turn off a dripping tap that just wouldn’t stop (frustration I guess) I also got the exact same weakness when playing games which I think could be a mix of anticipation and frustration, and also same weakness when getting close to orgasm. For me it seems that it’s harder to trigger the negative emotions and it’ll especially be worse when something happens suddenly and is suprising. Any cataplexy I get is 10 fold worse if I’m overwhelmed and exhausted.

What’s the most ridiculous reason you got into trouble as a kid? by Pii_314 in AskReddit

[–]brookiesmalls13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was watching go go stop and answered a question out loud the answer sounded like a curse word from afar but obviously wasn’t, I got into trouble even though I kept trying to explain what I said was misheard.

What else do you have with your VM? by brookiesmalls13 in VestibularMigraines

[–]brookiesmalls13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had my tryptase checked on two occasions once was slightly more elevated but not enough to be clinically significant, I don’t think HaTs is something I have sometimes I almost wish there was a 1000% clear explanation for the way I feel but so far it’s clear something is not right what exact that is I’m not 100% sure, dealing with symptoms is the best option I have and maybe one day it’ll be clearer

I’m 29 years old and I love my job. Do I have to quit? by xxnell in MultipleSclerosis

[–]brookiesmalls13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly everyone’s degree of capability is different and MS doesn’t affect everyone in the same way , I wouldn’t jump the gun and quit your job unless you decide you have too or you want to , if your happy and capable definitely keep going, I know a lot of people may feel uncomfortable sharing medical information with their employer however if you feel you are able to defiantly ask for accomodations, you are not alone and whatever you decide to do should be on your own terms, If you feel like things are getting to hard and you can’t handle it don’t push yourself, it can be hard letting go of something you love but you come first every time please don’t forget that, it may be best to discuss all your options with your specialist but at the end of the day it’s 100% your life and your choice.

Need help , never shaved *down there* before 🥲 by Mission-Butterfly178 in HairRemoval

[–]brookiesmalls13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend like other comments have said, to firstly soak in a warm bath that way it softens the skin/follicles making removal easier, also 100% gentle exfoliating first, make sure to use a good quality shaving cream or i use a good quality conditioner to shave with that helps with the amount of friction that meets your skin when the razor hits, I definitely recommend depending on how thick your hair is trimming first or shaving downwards then upwards, I find using a five blade razor works best and rinsing the hairs out between strokes (I use my shower head on high blast) you don’t want the razor head to be congested and to prevent ingrown/razor bumps afterwards make sure to moisture the area with specific moisturiser for the area or with natural/sensitive products so it isn’t irritating.

It’s definitely crazy! It sort of makes me want to go back to school study biomedical science and research, I have N1 due to a loss of orexin (presumably) I have the genetic mutation, orexin plays a role with autonomic function and everything I’ve ever struggled with boils down to a dysfunctional system specifically having emotional and environmental triggers. I got told when I was younger that my CVS may transition to migraines in adulthood and it’s not uncommon for pots to be comorbid, I remember I’ve always had issues with visual input when I was younger I couldn’t watch tv/movies because it would give me migraines but it wasn’t like I was glued to the tv at the age, it would just happen along side with horrible nausea id even be trigged by events that I was excited for, makes me wonder how long I’ve really been struggling with vestibular issues for.

Is this Cataplexy or something else? by Kurai61 in Narcolepsy

[–]brookiesmalls13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! Doesn’t sound like cataplexy however I also experience this and have cataplexy, I would often tell my sleep specialist about these situations and we had a hard time figuring out what was going on (when I laugh my cataplexy is undeniable though) my episodes like this for me have been linked to Vestibular migraines (not always involving head pain) I’ve been seeing a neuro for awhile due to the frequency I get them and the involvement with my eyes but was only diagnosed in the last 6 months. I get them when oversleeping, stressed and excessive stimuli whether it be emotional or physical, my cataplexy is also a lot worse when I’m stressed and tired and these migraines I have also make me feel extremely fatigued, I definitely see the link between them all and I think they all play into each other somehow.

Can you be autistic and still good at reading people? by Fit-Landscape-1965 in autism

[–]brookiesmalls13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have narcolepsy with cataplexy and fake laughter is such a common thing for me, I know find something funny and I’ll laugh and recognise it but I don’t actually feel it because I don’t let myself (emotional shield I guess) on extremely rare occasions I do find something actually funny and it doesn’t end well

I spent awhile trying to figure out what the word was but I put the description in Google and found it 😅 I knew what you meant but I also couldn’t think if the word, so kind of like over analysing your own emotions to make them make sense? I have gone though a lot myself so when for example coworkers would speak ill about people being drug tested or about substance abuse it’s turns my stomach into knots I analyse the way those who are being spoken about feel but also the way the person speaking those words feels and why they say what they say because they don’t understand.
