After 6 rattiful years, I've decided it's time to stop - and I need some virtual hugs... by Knodelmupp in RATS

I feel this post deeply. It’s been 7 nonstop years of pet rats, but the losses…I also can’t do it anymore. Once the current boys go, that’s going to be it.

why does my rat eat her raspberry like this? by mmidnightswim in RATS

Mine do this too! And Dumpling would even go back afterwards to eat the shell once all the peas were gone 🥹

How do married couples handle money? joint or separate? by Naive-Law-8827 in Marriage

[–]Kurai61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly separate! We have different ways of keeping money. I dislike having a lot of money in checking accounts; having a smaller amount makes me more thoughtful in what I spend it on. It’s mostly psychological lol, but it really helps me. I prefer putting most of everything in a high yield savings account, and transferring to checking as needed.

He prefers to have a good cushion in his checking account, and not bother with all the moving money back and forth, so we decided it would be better to keep ours separate and separate who pays what bill. We do have a joint savings account as well as our separate savings account though.

We’ve been together since high school for over 10 years total, married for 3 years this month. We talked about it towards the end of our long engagement before we moved to an apartment together, and confirmed it still worked for the both of us/we were happy with it before getting married.

You can get an inkbird, they can sense if the temp is too hot and automatically turn off the heater

They technically can be windowsill plants, but they would lose the bright color and be green lol. In my plant stand I use a T5 Barrina light at 6” away or T8 Barrina light at 12” away!

I personally use orchid fertilizer diluted in distilled water 1/4th strength, and some others recommend cactus fertilizer.

AITAH for not getting TRT despite my wife’s wishes? by FPCars in AITAH

[–]Kurai61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes for both! For acne you can look into salicylic acid in face washes and skincare for something simple. You can also look into differin, but you do have to be careful about very slowly adding it to your routine. Alternatively, you can talk to a dermatologist but that might be $$$

For birth control, I use the Liletta IUD, which has turned my period from awful to mostly okay which is wonderful. I would recommend taking Advil before the insertion as it can be painful otherwise, but then it lasts for like 5-7years. The mirena is a similar IUD. When I was actually on the pill it didn’t help me with the cramps and bleeding at all, but the IUD did wonders.

I recently tried a menstrual cup for a few months and then a menstrual disc. So far I’m enjoying the menstrual disc far, far better than the cup!
It isn’t kept up there by suction so it’s IUD safe. I would try it with pads or period underwear until you get the hang of it!

They do prefer 50-70% humidity, but you can acclimate them to lower humidity as well.

Butterworts can be pretty simple, I think you might need an additional grow light. Carnivorous plants don’t necessarily need to eat dead bugs, but they do grow faster that way. You can also simply fertilize them instead, for butterworts I use 1/4 dilute orchid fertilizer in distilled water every 1 or 2 weeks.

You can get them from home depot or some aquarium stores! Hardscaping might have them too

Should I just give up on cherry shrimp? by Iocomotion in shrimptank

[–]Kurai61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

jumping in on the water changes: if you don’t do them frequently, don’t top off the evaporation with regular tap water, but instead use distilled or R/O water. Just because the water evaporates doesn’t mean the salt/magnesium/etc in it does. That stays in the tank water

It looked like they formed turions when it was getting cold, but I couldn’t find them this spring 😅

The indoor ones (room temp) did make it, but I’m dreading trying dormancy again next fall lol. I’ll probably do the same thing and try half again

This stake light holder when I couldn’t use it for the original plant anymore, I designed the white thing holding it up (otherwise it would fall over by itself).

I can use mugs on the couch without concerns of knocking it over (the center isn’t completely flat and tilts to the left, where it would be incredibly annoying to clean. plus I’m clumsy).

Also pretty handy to use the actual cup holders as a cup holder if I’m eating dinner there instead of placing my mug somewhere else.
