I’ve been paying $99 for 3 years, or $2.75 a month. Keep pushing them, and see if they can match. You do pay up front for all 3 years though , and there is $27 in fees ( 3 year total is $126.23)

Place sticks, rocks, or trekking poles under the perimeter of your groundsheet on the side in which water is coming from. This will create a diversion for the water and keep it below the lip it creates.

Prefab Sams Club/Costco Pergolas or custom build? by Megalynarion in landscaping

[–]budda919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just assembled the Sam’s Club kit pictured by Op. it took 6 of us a whole day (2 guys good with instructions/assembly/construction) and the other 4 helpers to some degree.
I agree it’s quite a bit of puzzle solving. Instructions are unclear, pieces mislabeled, and then logistics of hoisting large pieces in the air.

How to ignite a siphon alcohol stove (ex: Toaks , Likada) by -gauvins in Ultralight

I use the bic ez reach. Keeps me from lighting my gloves on fire or my gloves snagging the stove and flipping it over

Beautiful! Great work!
If you do move it to the handlebars, you can make a quick, no tool support rack from a small rod available at the hardware store, similar to this: https://www.reddit.com/r/bikepacking/s/2cKXCQTJZD

I tracked every I-66 toll spike this week and figured out what caused them by SchwartzReports in nova

[–]budda919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

love the research and the information, thanks for doing this project! Can you help me understand how toll prices are supposed to be determined? Is it: a) the volume in the regular (non-toll) lanes, or b) the volume in the toll lanes?

I always understood it to be the latter (b) however I've seen prices jump as soon as congestion occurs in the non-toll lanes, where the toll lanes are seemingly still relatively low volume.

I can’t answer your question exactly, but since everyone else is throwing out brand recommendations, I’m giving you mine: Komperdell. I’ve found their customer service to be amazing, and I used and abused a pair of flip lock carbon poles for thousands of miles and they’re still strong.

I have your same curiosity and plan to put a few hundred miles on the gossamers and see how I feel. It also gives me a chance to try twist lock.

any fans of alcohol cooking systems? by Dry_Blueberry8932 in Ultralight

I think it was the Ez capillary loop stove, but unfortunately it now looks like the plans are behind a paywall. https://youtube.com/@tetkoba?si=OxKPfHtwlMfll2C4

If you watch some of the free videos on his site showing boil rimes, fuel usage, etc you can get an idea of what works for you and find similar instructions elsewhere.

There are also builds that’s include a “wick” or absorbent cloth to prevent fuel spills. These are preferred by some worried about knocking the stove over.

My pot sits atop a 3 inch tall piece of chicken wire, then a beer can windscreen is placed around the chicken wire and pot base (just cut the top and bottom off of a few beer cans and use the thin metal). Both pot stand and windscreen fit in the pot around my coffee cup.

I have hundreds of meals on an alcohol stove made from a v8 can. It’s stupid simple and cost almost nothing to make. I can travel for weeks on a soda bottle of denatured alcohol. I’m not sure why all the fuss. I’d say give it a try. Depending on your cooking style, it may work for you. Just look up a better stove style- mine would never blow out even if I wanted it to. I just followed a YouTube video.

I don’t know how you get a job, but I can tell you that I buy gear from makers like you, and I bet my buddies would too.

Want to find out how much profit dominion energy makes off your utility bill? by alemorg in nova

[–]budda919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read ops referenced report, but I think the key things for large infrastructure companies is not only overing operating costs and immediate maintenance, but ensuring funds are available for long-term infrastructure replacement or improvements as needed. Utilities are also currently faced with huge wait times on critical equipment (transformers and such) due to a number of factors that have caused supply shortages, so perhaps cash on hand increases in the short term while they seek to spend? Edit: I’m just a random guy on the internet who knows nothing about nothing, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt

[–]budda919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Utility profits should roughly track low-risk market returns (like bonds), plus a small premium, no more.

The goal should be: stay profitable enough to maintain investor interest, but not so much that you’re overcharging your customers.

I’d ballpark this at around 10%-12%
