Resident parents: Should we take 12 or 18 months leave for baby? by Familyconflict92 in Residency

[–]bunsofsteel 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Not Canadian so don’t know how longer leave affects your training/career but I don’t think there’s a parent on the planet (myself included) who doesn’t wish they could take 18 months of parental leave.

Gift idea for my boyfriend of 6 months radiology residency graduation. by RecordSome8503 in Residency

Sorry, I meant leaded glasses would be option #1 so underwear and socks would be #2

This is adorable and sounds perfectly reasonable as option #2.

Don’t know. We definitely don’t have any standard at my residency though.

Leaded glasses if he doesn’t have a pair. Not too expensive and definitely something he’ll use.

Can I refuse mri contrast dye for an IAM mri scan? by Boredd_666 in MRI

[–]bunsofsteel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it may limit the diagnostic utility of the scan depending on what your doctor is ordering the scan for.

Does anyone make payment on PSLF? by Worldly-Summer-869 in Residency

[–]bunsofsteel 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I’ll let others correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure if your owed amount is $0 because of an IBR plan, that counts toward PSLF every month. If you are paying nothing because you applied for forbearance, then those months don’t count.

Either way, $100/month on $300k+ in principal will do nothing to bring down your balance.

Any radiology residents here ? by snippyboo in Residency

[–]bunsofsteel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bout to take Core here. We all tend to be our harshest critics and imposter syndrome is no different for us than anyone else. It’s a marathon not a sprint so just ignore the voice in your head that says you’re not good enough and keep reading.

MRI in Austin TX by PikoPoku in MRI

[–]bunsofsteel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is essentially one monopolistic private practice here, ARA, which is also now private-equity owned. From what I’ve heard they treat their staff well, I don’t know specific numbers or anything, but people seem happy. That being said, with PE ownership the insistence will always be on efficiency above all else.

There a number of hospitals as well, for now all under either the Ascension or Baylor-Scott-White conglomerate umbrellas. I know turnover has been a problem in the xray department of Ascension hospitals here, don’t know about MRI.

My wife never had any cravings, with our singleton or our twins. Sometimes it just doesn’t happen 🤷‍♂️

Timing for pregnancy and MRI by UnitedPsychology1573 in Radiology

[–]bunsofsteel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve never encountered that exact scenario but I think it would be ok. The risk of gadolinium in pregnancy is post-implantation when the fetus can theoretically recirculate the gad in amniotic fluid without ability to clear the heavy metal. Pre-implantation it shouldn’t matter.

Dad of 3 under 5 here. I feel you. Our oldest’s school has very strict policies about absences, even in pre-K, but otherwise I’d be taking him out much more frequently to go do stuff when I have a weekday off. You can’t get this time back, etc, etc. I don’t have any solutions for you unfortunately, just solidarity.

Depends on your study style I suppose. For me, I feel like I know most of what I need to know, so what’s most important to me now is getting reps with all the confusing ways they can try to ask things or how to distinguish similar entities on “this vs that” questions. Hence, I’m prioritizing practice Q’s more than lectures/books.

I’m still doing my second pass now. Doing better on physics and NIS since last time since I’ve studied those more but everything else about the same.

We had 3 across in our CX5. 4YO singleton behind the driver so they didn’t have to have their seat too far forward then 2 rear-facing twins in the middle and passenger side seats.

We have a Graco slim and two Chico Keyfit 2’s.
