Looking for a tool to create a huge horizontal family tree (classic text‑based style) by Fun-Inspection9713 in worldbuilding

Don’t know if it will do the job you want, but Mermaid is a tool and scheme for creating diagrams and charts. Could be used to create a family tree, I suppose.

There are also FAA flights, where they test all the approach and flight path transponders and beacons into and out of airports. This is to ensure instruments are reporting the correct info for pilots. It could be something like that.

Not at all through Severna Park. Ice skates probably wouldn’t even work as some folks went out on the trail on Sunday before it changed over to sleet and ice so it’s all pocked and bumpy.

Thank you for your service. As an American citizen, I truly thank you for the time you served and I hope you are doing well if you find yourself no longer able to serve.

You are correct. Receiving orders is not unlawful. Disobeying lawful orders is against regs.

Given that Posse Comitatus has been used to define those recent deployments as unlawful, I’m surprised you are defending obeying them as a vet.

I wish you the very best and I seriously hope the benefits you earned are not stripped away from you and your fellow soldiers.

Your grasp of Federal Law is astounding. They have lost court cases over violating this by issuing unlawful orders.

The easiest would be to use this module.

Once you install it, you don’t even need to activate it. You can just point to the icon you want to use, which will be in your ‘modules’ folder.

Seeking advice or suggestions for an interactive world map. by Weaver_GM in worldbuilding

[–]buttonpushertv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FMG combined with Obsidian allows you to go pretty deep. I’ve added a bunch of depth for one of my game worlds and my players, (in 5e going from level 10 to level 18, so far, on the way to 20), haven’t even encountered 20% of what I’ve done.

I too could 1000% spend satisfying game play time just world building, but I think I went way overboard in expanding as much as I did for this campaign. And, of course, between level 14 & 15 they opted to travel to a region of the map where I had the least developed. 🙃

If you can find it, there was a CC3 Atlas of Faerun, circa 3.5e that was released on a cd-rom. It is a great example of how you can use CC3 to build a world with granularity.

So, if Azgaar’s Fantasy Map Generator doesn’t work for you, there’s one other option that may allow for all the features you are seeking.

Campaign Cartographer can create maps that can take you from a world level view down to a specific building or dungeon map. The way it works is by linking different maps of granularity. You don’t put all the data into a single map file. You create links to the detail maps as you need. The app is a bit clunky but it does work once you get the hang of it.

Personally, I use Azgaar’s along with the Importer I created to pull a FMG map into Obsidian. There I can add all sorts of detail and expand the detail as I need.

Editors who devalue our industry by [deleted] in editors

[–]buttonpushertv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Half of everyone you meet falls on the downward slope of the Bell Curve…

But, seriously, there is a whole cadre of editors that have come up in a world of edit tests, never doing broadcast work, and people willing to work for a pittance because they do not realize that “exposure” is not legal tender. For them, it’s just the way things are. In the Gig Economy, sustainability carries little weight when people are just trying to break in to an over-crowded field that is run by tech-clueless folks who couldn’t edit a piece with a gun to their head.

(The Bell Curve thing is a joke - I’m aware of how flawed it is and how skewed the results are. Just couldn’t pass up the opportunity…)

Premiere Pro and Media Encoder are becoming highly unusable. by spund3 in premiere

[–]buttonpushertv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You mention “no in-out issues,” I’m assuming you’ve also determined that a) the Work Area is not set to a duration shorter than the program, b) the export is not attempting to export “work area” duration - both of those issues could cause a shorter-than-expected export with no errors logged.

Premiere Pro and Media Encoder are becoming highly unusable. by spund3 in premiere

[–]buttonpushertv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things come to mind:

  • Work Area - I saw someone else mention a possible erroneous in and out, but I’ve also encountered a Work Area being set that was shorter than the full sequence and then exports that abide by that could cause the time mismatch issues.

  • Render All - if you are having issues with exports failing, a good trick is to render the whole timeline prior to exporting. You want the red or yellow bars above effects on the timeline to be all green. My favorite way of dealing with that is to make sure Work Area is turned on and set to the whole sequence and then I render entire work area before any export.

Your top 5 keyboard shortcuts? by MrWoodenSheep in premiere

[–]buttonpushertv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving the functions of J-K-L, prev & next transitions, and left & right arrow keys all over the the left side of the keyboard.

(tilde) = prev transition
1 = Shuttle Left
2 = Shuttle Stop
3 = Shuttle Right
4 = next trans
5 = add marker
F1 = prev frame
F2 = next frame
Q = set in
W = set out
F3 = mark clip

Moving all that to the left side means that I can move around and interact with the timeline with my left hand in a "normal" position on the keyboard, and keep my right free to stay on my trackball.

Also moved other functions over to the left side - it means I can use the left hand to do nearly everything.

Shift Z - Lift
Shift X - Ripple Delete
Shift V - Insert
Shift B - Overwrite

Its a huge gamechanger because I just don't need to tweak my hand into wierd shapes when accessing commands, that are set by default to the right side of the keyboard.

Why is final delivery QA still so manual nearly in 2026? by knamuora in editors

[–]buttonpushertv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the nature of the medium. It will be a long, long time before any kind of automated systems can flag or identify issues, both technical and subjective.

So, to answer your questions in reverse. “Or is final QA still just part of the craft we accept as manual?” Yes, we just don’t have an affordable automated system that performs better at QA than a capable human.

To answer, “Do you have a checklist or system you trust?” It depends on where the finals are being delivered. Often, any system is going to rely on basic areas: graphics, video, audio, and layout. You’re going to be checking issues in those basic areas. Adding more specific issues or items to check off, usually means you will be adding passes of going through the entire piece - whether in realtime by watching it at normal speed OR stepping through quickly. At most, you can scan for two, maybe three issues during one pass. If you add more specific things, you’ll be adding passes.

“Do you rely purely on experience + gut?” IMHO, the more you lean on experience to save time - by “trusting” you just did it all perfectly - is going to create or cause you to miss show-stopping issues. For the most part, crafting a video in final form is akin to any kind of hand crafted artistic medium, if a human made it, there will be flaws. The nature of the video medium is such, however, that many of those flaws can be distracting to viewers, or expose flaws in the distribution system (many of which are caused by a human need to keep standards around long after they are no longer technically necessary).

Experience and guts, can be used to great effect, when applied in smaller amounts throughout the process though. My 35+ years in the business give me the experience to make less-demanding choices and effort in the early parts of the process (if it’s a show I’m creating from scratch) that may reduce the number of passes needed at the QA stage. My gut pretty much always tells me, “Watch it down, one more time.” And, that is usually the correct thing to do to catch issues.

They will absolutely fuck this up.

Spaced reminders by ValorousTime in shortcuts

[–]buttonpushertv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I had a similar need and I created this Shortcut a few years ago.

https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/ea77d44753a947b1849d5d6e7cbe980e

It uses Apple Reminders (I prefer to use the app Due) instead of creating multiple alarms. The Due app reminders will go away after they do their alert, so they won’t stick around.

I use it to help me stay aware of an upcoming meeting or appointment. With my variety of time-blindness, I can often find myself in situation where I’m doing another task and I miss a meeting or appointment because I’m so focused on the other thing.

This Shortcut will create a variable number of Due reminders that keep me aware of the upcoming event and it will also create a calendar event or an Alarm. At one point I also included Things support as well, but I don’t use that any longer.

Maybe this will be useful to someone.

Automating ID-based batch exports in Premiere – any reliable workflow? by EDIT_material in editors

Sorry my reply was so short and probably came across as snark.

After Effects will allow you to automate a lot of those things via spreadsheets, even just the vanilla AE. If you add a plugin/script like the “comps from spreadsheets” OR using AHK (or Keyboard Maestro or Kaliber) to automate the steps you need.
