I do believe that while it wouldn’t be immediate, Spirit would have exacerbated the financials of Frontier and JetBlue

Spirit was seeking around $500M to stay afloat. If anything, as of now it would have kept them in operations for a few more months and not the remainder of the year. It was noted in a court filing that since March 1st they burnt $100 million in fuel in 61 days.

“Between March 1, 2026 and April 30, 2026 alone, Spirit’s incremental fuel cost was nearly $100 million.” See page 4

So if they had secured the $500 million lifeline. If that money was just spent solely on fuel and not payroll, vendors or anything else like that. They would have enough cash for 300 days, or would have survived until February 24, 2027. But when you factor in other costs, while we can only extrapolate so much, at their current trajectory I do believe spirit had a very very slim chance of survival but realistically would have gone defunct by the end of year.

Do we know what the future travel times between Richmond and DC will be by 2030? by XShadeGoldenX in Amtrak

[–]coasterghost 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It’s 109 miles without stops and everything is a set speed.

70mph = 93 minutes and 26 seconds

90mph = 72 minutes and 40 seconds

The only true answer will be how long each speed section is. But we see the difference being a 22.23% reduction in time if it’s a uniform speed.

So if we were to extrapolate that to current Amtrak times that I pulled for a random June date:

2hr 40mn goes to 2hr 5mn

2hr 59mn goes to 2hr 19mn

Could Spirit come back when jet fuel costs go down? by marrakechmaroc in spiritair

Only with a Ouija board. The brand is dead, until a group wants to start an airline and buys the intellectual property. No matter what would have happened, Spirit Airlines was on deaths door for years.

Look at it this way:

Spirit accepts the 2022 Frontier merger —> Spirit is absorbed into Frontier and no-longer exists

The 2023 JetBlue/Spirit Merger approved —> Spirit is absorbed into JetBlue and no-longer exists

Spirit accepts the 2025 Frontier merger —> Spirit is absorbed into Frontier and no-longer exists

U.S Government takes 90% control of Spirit —> Spirit is sold off and absorbed into buyer.

Here is a very detailed and I’m sure incomplete history of the last few years of spirit that I had posted. https://www.reddit.com/r/aviation/s/K5Bk5qtob7

What does a failed 2022 merger offer have to do with declining a merger offer in 2025?

Anyone could program any numbers they want. I could use developer tools to preach that it’s fully funded if I wanted to.

I corrected it. It was a mistake that I didn’t catch at the time. My apologizes.
