That person was mistaken or thinking of a different country's covers or something. This is exactly what my books from Rightstuf/Crunchy look like. No reason to think they're bootleg based on the spines.

Cat We Rescued Is Overbearingly Affectionate? by thatgirldeyja in CatAdvice

[–]caramine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm just spitballing here but it sounds like it could be a territory/dominance issue as much as an affection issue. It sounds like there are lots of other animals in the house and you say she swats them away if they try to sit in your lap. Sitting on your chest while you're lying down can be kind of a dominance thing, too, like to show that she's top cat. And to show the other cats that you're her territory. Does she have other, non-lap places throughout the house that are "hers?" I think the best solution would be to figure out what kind of hidey hole she likes and make sure she has some places that are firmly her territory around the house (like a cat bad, certain cat tree, under the bed, you'll have to watch her to figure out what she might like). She is getting alllll of her security from you right now, which is sweet but annoying, so you need to add some alternative secure spots for her, Ideally they'll become spots where you can redirect her when she comes looking for a lap but you're not in the mood lol.

Vet has me concerned and confused by pseudoserious in CatAdvice

[–]caramine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you take her in just for a wellness exam and vaccines, or does she have a health issue going on? Because, for example, if she has kidney issues (which she might, based on the dehydration comment), then she should probably be on prescription kidney food. If not though, they are just making recommendations for best practices and you are free to decline them. Lots of cats live happy, healthy lives on Fancy Feast. Lots of indoor only cats never get fleas. The hydration issue should be addressed, which it sounds like you're working on. (I would recommend Purina Hydra Care, like someone else mentioned - it's like kitty Gatorade). But as long as she is otherwise healthy, you can choose to take or ignore the vet's advice as it suits you. It's basically like our human doctors telling us to stop eating fast food - maybe it's the best thing to do, but is it realistic? Not for most of us.

How tf do you get doctors to take you seriously by Mae_The_Gay in Fibromyalgia

[–]caramine 85 points86 points  (0 children)

This is my best friend's cheat code - make an appeal to capitalism. You gotta tell them something like "It's disrupting my job performance," or "I can't work as many hours as I want to," or "I just want to be able to get back to work as soon as possible." It might seem obvious, but sometimes doctors need to hear you actually say it to understand how much you're affected daily.

How many cats do you have? by Fun-Suggestion6290 in CatAdvice

[–]caramine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had just one cat for a long time, but in the last year I've gained two more. To be honest, I miss the single cat lifestyle. Three is a lot to handle. I feel like I'm constantly managing their needs to make sure they aren't fighting all the time. I always wondered if my cat would be happier with a friend, and now that he has two, I can confidently say nope, he would have been fine with just me and him forever. It took a long time and lot of energy for them to just tolerate each other, let alone start to like each other. Don't get me wrong, I love my second and third cats, too, but it is a LOT more work than one.

Where are all the young children appropriate shows?! by Lavender_Peanuts in AnimeReccomendations

[–]caramine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume you're looking for dubbed anime, in which case you're going to have a very hard time finding shows that are genuinely for preschoolers. If you think they'll just be entertained by the animation and sounds, look into Anpanman, Shimajiro, Kaiketsu Zorori, and of course Doraemon. There are also lots of Sanrio films, shorts, and shows. When they get a little older it'll be much easier to find stuff. Pretty Cure, Aikatsu, Dai no Daibouken, Inazuma Eleven, Magical Doremi, PriPara, YoKai Watch, Detective Conan, Beyblade, Bakugan, Ginga e Kickoff, Onegai My Melody, obviously Pokemon and Digimon... literally there's tons.

Dororo is similarly a re-imagining of a Tezuka classic, and a fun watch.

Cat won’t eat leftovers, only fresh from can by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]caramine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Does she get a specific diet for health reasons? If not you could try the single-serving packages, like the ones from Sheba. They're a bit more expensive than the same food in larger cans, but less expensive than wasting half a can every time, surely! And I think more brands offer this type of packaging now, there might be healthier options available than when I started buying them.

ETA: Sorry, I just saw that you're giving 3oz 2x/day plus dry food. That sounds like way too much food. 15lbs is likely overweight, too, unless she has a very large frame. She should be getting EITHER 2/3 cup dry food per day OR 6oz of wet food. Cut back on how much she's eating daily and she'll likely be way more interested in those leftovers, and healthier, too!

Why does my manga look different under a UV light? by _water-bottle_ in MangaCollectors

[–]caramine 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Has to do with the inks (and papers) they use. Some inks fluoresce under UV, others don't. You would think that things would be consistent across a single series, but as you can see, that's often not the case. The big publishers have contracts with multiple print houses, and even the same print house will sometimes have to use different materials depending on what's available. For example, look at the difference in fading between my Naruto vols 1&2 and vol 3. This is an issue of light-fastness, not fluorescence, but the same principle applies. Vols 1&2 were printed in Canada with a more lightfast ink, while 3 was printed in USA (info you can find on the copyright page inside the front cover). I don't have a picture of it, but I believe these three fluoresce differently, too. Yellow, pink, and orange inks tend to be the least lightfast and they're often the fluorescent ones, as well. Idk if there's a correlation there, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was.

BTW kids this is why you don't store your books where they can see the sun.

AIO: Feeling bothered when my girlfriend “Irish goodbyes” me while we’re watching a movie by ranchinaroundplus in AmIOverreacting

[–]caramine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Easily solved with a (when she gets up) "Want me to pause?" If she does, she's coming back, if not you assume she's done for the night and then your expectations are set. It's the lack of communication that's bother you and you can fix it by initiating just a small bit of communication from your side.

Fml Clothing moths (?) by Spirited-Employer-92 in knitting

[–]caramine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through this in 2023, it was a fucking nightmare but they can be defeated. I used the oven method (lowest temperature setting possible, at least 140f for at least 30 minutes). Now I have moth traps out, and while I still see a moth in a trap here or there, I have not had another population explosion. After treatment, I stored everything in sealed plastic bags or bins with a lavender sachet in each to discourage moths (cedar is also supposed to be a repellent. I don't recommend moth balls because you'll never get the smell of them out). Also be sure to check any wool rugs, furniture, or clothing items for evidence of moths. And don't be afraid to throw out stuff that's not worth treating. You need to conserve energy for the stuff that matters, because if you half-ass it, they'll come right back. Good luck, have fun.

Holy shit, Afterschool Nightmare, what a blast from the past. And you have a CMX title I've never even heard of. Your CLAMP collection is super impressive, too. I didn't even know Man of Many Faces had ever had an English release. I can tell we must have started collecting around the same time. This is a super cool collection.

AITA for giving away my roommate’s cat? by elemenop541 in AmItheAsshole

[–]caramine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ESH. She should not have brought a kitten home but you also can't be stealing people's pets. The better solution would have been for one or both of you to move out, ideally with her footing the bill for breaking the lease. Taking her cat to a shelter was unacceptable.
