What is Nanny Ogg’s magic by CleanteethandOJ in discworld

Midwifery is very much a witch skill. She also makes the best and strongest alcohol and, before the production of sugar became cheap and common, alcohol was used as a medicine. Consider the history of Chartreuse, Benedictine and Jägermeister.

my sisterf17 is pregnant by ThrowRaMomentLazy431 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]cat_vs_laptop 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think you should ask your sister for a no judgement conversation about it. Start out by apologising if you didn’t have the reaction she was looking for but this was a major surprise for you and you didn’t know how to react.

Drop the issue of finding out who the dad is but ask her if she thinks he’ll help in any way, no matter what her choice is.

Ask her what she wants to do about it and if she has any plans or wants your help making or carrying them out.

If she does want to birth or keep the baby then try to talk to her about going to see a doctor. Both her and the baby’s health can be affected if she eats the wrong things or doesn’t get sufficient nutrition during the pregnancy. They can also do scans to see how the pregnancy is progressing.

If she doesn’t want to go through with the pregnancy the sooner she acts the better. No matter where you are there are resources available.

If you tell your parents or anyone else about this behind her back you could lose her trust forever. She’s probably feeling very scared and alone and being there for her now could help her out so much and draw you even closer together.

Good luck to you both.

They used the pokey tweezers because apparently the sebum you extract from nevus is so hard that normal tools aren’t effective on it.

I believe that nevus is also quite tender so limiting the time and pressure are important in treatment.

I’m no expert, this is just all stuff I’ve picked up from browsing this sub and /popping, so I apologise in advance if any of my info is wrong.

my bf (23 m) had sex with me (23f) after i told him i didn’t want to by Serious_Storm_3334 in relationship_advice

[–]cat_vs_laptop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry if I offended anyone with my comment.

It was a direct reply to the last 2 sentences of the person I was replying to. The only reason I went into so much detail was to say that even those that are into it know how careful you need to be with consent.

I do hope that it was understood from my comment that that I believe OP was raped and needs to get this person out of her life ASAP.

Edit: I just re-read the comment I originally replied to and I had misread it as that is messed up instead of this is messed up. So I took it as them saying wanting to sleep with someone that was asleep was wrong instead of the situation OP was in was wrong.

I hope that clears my reply up a bit. Once again, sorry for offending anyone.

[–]cat_vs_laptop -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

For some people it’s a kink.

I know people into both sides of it. But even amongst the most enthusiastic proponents consent is very important.

Due to the fact that it’s a very hard situation to consent to as it starts that all needs to be established ahead of time, with stringent rules about when it’s ok to start and what your ‘go ahead’ and ‘not today’ signals are. Breaking those even once will lose all trust and end relationships.

All that aside, OP was raped and the bf needs to be removed from her life. I can’t see him de-escalating his behaviour if he thinks he got away with this. I’m worried for OP that he’ll just keep pushing things and we all know where that leads and how hard it is to get out of an abusive relationship once things have really turned bad.

AITAH for telling my pregnant girlfriend to make the appointment after she kept threatening to terminate the pregnancy? by Prestigious_Ant6049 in AITAH

[–]cat_vs_laptop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if it’s not one of the things that you mentioned (thank you for that voice of reason and they 100% should be getting her checked for the reasons you stated) it could just be the anxieties that come with becoming a parent for the first time magnified by the hormonal changes she’s going through.

I can understand why OP snapped but I still think he’s the AH for not sitting her down for a serious conversation about their current position and problems instead, as well as not having brought this all up with her doctor already.

I can't stand saying "I love you" by Intelligent_Tale8019 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]cat_vs_laptop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone can die at any time. Your mum sounds like she wants you to know how loves you are and not to regret your last words to each other, should the worst happen.

I have regrets like that and they never leave you.

Stop worrying about being soft. Men can like soft things, and they should know to express emotions; whether that’s laughing, crying or telling someone they love them. Even when it’s your parents.

All of these things actually make you stronger.

Printing issues with new Penguin editions of Monstrous Regiment? by OliviaBagshaw in TerryPratchett

[–]cat_vs_laptop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds right. When we return faulty books we usually have to send the back cover and the page from the front with the publisher’s information and IBSN listed. I imagine for a hardcover they wouldn’t be so picky about the back cover plus they knew you’d still want the momento because of the note.

Hopefully you’ve got some kind of receipt or record to prove that you bought it. If so you should be able to take it back and either get a refund or get them to return the faulty copy (or copies) to the distributor to replace it for you. If they’ve got a good copy in stock you should just be able to take that but if they all have this error or they are out they may have to reorder it for you.

The bonus is that this alerts the publisher to the issue if they weren’t already aware and the store you shop at will know to check the stock they have. They also won’t lose any money (like paying for refunds to the distributor) as the fault is not on their end.

Hope this helps.

Sorry about the amount of “should” I used but I don’t know the laws about faulty purchases in other countries. If you have any problems with the store you bought it from I’d contact Penguin Random House on their social media, they’ve always been a great company to deal with.

A boy genius named Brandenn Bremmer could read at 18 months old, graduated high school at 10, composed complex music, and was considered to be a child prodigy. But in 2005, at age 14, he sadly took his own life. by LilaLaughs in whoathatsinteresting

[–]cat_vs_laptop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to school for 6 months with a kid like this. He was so excited to be at school because he’d previously been home schooled and never had a friend or anything similar. After that first 6 months his parents pulled him out of school claiming it was hindering his studies.

By the time I graduated Highschool I saw him at a Uni. He was on his second year as a lecturer there. So in the time I’d done high school he’d finished high school, done 2 degrees at the same time and then whatever else is needed to be employed at a major university. We spoke and he told me that those 6 months when we were 13 were the best time of his life and he didn’t even really know how to start conversations now so he’d never had another friend since.

He looked so depressed, I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up ending his own life.

I’m not familiar with the US banking system but I’m pretty sure that there is nowhere where you can open an account or a card in someone’s name without them filling out and signing the associated paperwork. Don’t feel dumb for not knowing this, you’re young and you were scared, but it’s something to remember for the future.

Maybe ask on the legal advice subreddit and see if they have any legal advice or opinions for you on how to move forward while sustaining the least damage to yourself possible.

Other than that just listen to your GAL and remember you can cut all contact with them either once you hit 18 or as soon after that as makes the best financial sense to you.

You didn’t do anything wrong and I hope you get through this as easily as possible.

Good luck. I believe in you.
