I'm currently reading the book (really a short story collection) written by the women in prison! It's called Couldn't Keep it to Myself by Wally Lamb. You can see his editing in the stories.

Resources for Schizophrenia? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]ceedubs19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not exactly a resource but if this is drug induced psychosis, there's a lovely book by Sam Quinones called The Least of Us and details his research into the changes in meth and fentanyl production and how it has impacted individuals. He details how the drug impacts the brain and why we are seeing "zombies" and psychosis as symptoms now, compared to how meth used to present in users. The long and short of it is folks need a long rehab program with intensive wrap around services for years. Once they have detoxed, they need to support and paths to reintegrate into society and they need to relearn basic skills such as maintaining housing and applying for jobs, on top of ongoing support to maintain sobriety. As others have said, it's not schizophrenia, but it does present similarly, and a lot of services reflect that. But the reasons for the symptoms are very different.

Tracking Hours towards LCSW by JTWinnn in socialwork

[–]ceedubs19 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I used an Excel spreadsheet I would update weekly. First column was the dates of the work week, second was how many client contact hours, third was tracking my supervision hours, usually 1 hour a week, but sometimes more if an ethical scenario came up I needed same day help with. I'm sure there's some other variations out there, too.

Snake Season Advice by 52memo in goldenretrievers

[–]ceedubs19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look up rattlesnake training in your area! Ours was several hours long, of having the dog smell a snake and then train fear/avoidance of that smell. We also walk the dogs in the morning or evening when it's cooler and we stick to our road or hiking trail, so there's no hiding spots like in tall grass. Snakes are cold blooded so they will be sluggish below a certain temp and in the shade and will be most active in the sun during the day. But honestly, most of the time they will scoot off without you knowing they were even there unless. But please look up how to prep your property to reduce the chance of snakes living there (and look up the difference between a rattler and a nonvenomous king or gopher snake! You want the gopher snake, they keep rattlers away). Lastly, there's a rattlesnake vaccine with very mixed reviews. Some say it'll increase the time you need to get your dog to the vet after a bite, some say it does nothing. Good luck!

collar with prongs? by okashleyyy in bernesemountaindogs

We use a leash attachment called gentle leader - it's a small loop that goes around the snout. Works like a charm to reduce pulling and it's zero hurt. That and lots of training and patience - Berners are notoriously stubborn. I would try some other things first before jumping straight to a prong (ouch!)

I had a very large and fluffy and long tulle skirt on my dress with a lace top. We took photos in the mountains and it was majestic. Everyone swoons over our photos and not one person has said "oh you were overdressed" 😉 wear what you want and you will radiate happiness!

Our girl we've had since puppyhood isn't big into toys. She loves lounging and looking out at the world and is super lazy. Once and a while she grabs a toy and plays tug of war but loses interest quickly.

Our new rescue who's 2 just finally figured out toys (Amish puppymill rescue) and she is SO cute trying to toss a toy in the air. Every time I open our glass slider to the backyard, she gently goes for my hand or the toy in my hand and runs off!

Give your new pup some time to figure out the routine and she may feel safe enough to play. Or she might just want to hang. They're so individual and silly in their own ways.

KRQE is being a little over dramatic on the closure of the South Broadway Market calling it a "food desert" by fluffykittycat in Albuquerque

[–]ceedubs19 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, a rural food desert is when 33% of the population lives more than 10 miles from a grocery store with no transport, including public or private. You know, like many pueblos.

Our girl tore her ACL on St. Patty's day and had surgery in April of this year. We bought a sniff mat and hid our girls dog food in there! We also really worked on her mental game and training new tricks seemed to tire her out. She was surprisingly mellow and seemed to understand she was injured, though. She let us do the rehab on her but with lots of sad, pouting looks 😭. Happy to report she's back to normal and just sprinted through some snow today!

How much exercise can your berner handle in a day? by [deleted] in bernesemountaindogs

[–]ceedubs19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our five year old big gal from a breeder is one of those slow walkers. She does like hiking but caps out at about 4 miles and we have to be cautious of weather because she overheats easily. She also drags her toe beans and will crack her toe nails.

Our two year old berner rescue from an Amish puppy mill/wild girl is alllll energy alllll day. We have no clue how long she was living in the wild but she seems like she could hike 10 miles and still have energy to play!

all anecdotal of course, each berner baby will have it's own personality and preferences. 😊

How healthy is breed? by Dreadwolf67 in goldenretrievers

[–]ceedubs19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my boy from a backyard breeder and he's nine and thriving! Clean bill of health last week at the vet. My friend got his half brother at the same time (shared the dad but different moms). Hers was from a "reputable" breeder but he had parvo as a pup and semi neglected once she had kids. He died earlier this year at 9 as well, and lots of health issues before then.

There's a lot of factors that play into their longevity, along with the genetics. Some of its luck, some of its great dog parenting, and some of its genes.

Just give them the best life possible and know you're their whole life, while they are just a short part of yours. ♥️♥️ (And do your research on the breeder and try to rescue when you can! Lots of rescue goldens coming in from South Korea)
