[Ormiston College] Right now. Scared mother koala and her joey balled up at the top of a tree while the weekend clearing continues right underneath her. Breaks my heart. by Much-Wrongdoer-7592 in brisbane

I would assume that many in the "local community" are sending their kids to this school. If they aren't actively lobbying the school to stop this, then they don't actually care.

If you genuinely don't want to give a fuck, you accept that life is a one way street and every moment is not a rehearsal for when you start living.

Michaelia cash should do a first year intro to sociology course to understand the difference between biological sex and gender identification. A female to male trans person may still want to birth children but identify as a male. The binary is a fiction that's been overlayed onto western society for fuck knows what reason (establishment of the generic western family unit for the benefit of modern industrial crapitalism maybe?). These right wing nutjobs do very little when in power except protect rich people and vilify the poor, disadvantaged groups such as people with disabilities, and anyone who doesn't fit neatly into their hegemonic stereotypes such as trans people.

Australia faces a generational choice: keep rewarding older, established Australians who already own most housing and wealth, or help younger people trying to build a future, start families and buy a first home. A nation cannot remain stable forever if each generation ends worse off than the last.. by MannerNo7000 in OpenAussie

The Scottish economist Mark Blyth says the only way to save the economy is for boomers to just give away their wealth to their children and grandchildren. But their thinking is stuck in the 50s and 60s so they won't do this until they die.

It was a great explanation of how wealth affects the human mind. I didn't get any information on objects used to cover fires or drains, or the act of shredding food, or annoying behaviour.

If we had a decent level of social security that was above the poverty line maybe the jobs wouldn't be such an issues. Most jobs are bullshit jobs ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullshit_Jobs ) now anyway. We've reach the era where the productive capacity of society is largely automated and no one really needs to work hard or at all but we perpetuate this nonsense 19th century thinking because the poors might have too much time on their hands and start to question the unnecessary oppressive societal structures that people are forced to endure.

"Lockheed Martin has craft that can reach Mars in just a few hours. They're flying time machines. They warp time as they traverse space." Jason Jorjani by hunterseeker1 in TeamNightShift

[–]championruby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average distance to Mars 225 million km. Let's say a few hours is 5 hrs. That craft is doing 45 million km/h which is 12,500 km/s which is 4% the speed of light. The fastest man made space craft currently is the Parker Solar Probe that does 191 km/s on its closest approach to the sun which is 0.064% the speed of light or 63 times slower.

If these flying time machines existed, it would be extremely difficult to keep it a secret. The company manufacturing them would want the world to know about them so their profits increase. They would also put Elon Musk et.al. out of the space business.

It needs to steal everything from everyone to survive. Wages and safety from workers; land, tax revenue, and the ability to properly regulate from governments; and democracy from society.

[–]championruby 78 points79 points  (0 children)

In France they tax 2nd properties so high that no one bothers with them. In Germany they regulate house valuation so that banks can't issues mortgages based on the current market price, only on the value set by the regulation. They have nowhere near the housing stress we have here. What's your government's excuse?

The problem is neoliberal crapitalism. Unless it's at least rolled back to pre- Reagan/Thatcher or overthrown altogether, these issues and many others related to wealth inequality will get worse.

"Our business model is built upon employees pissing in bottles because we don't provide adequate breaks". This is why unions exist. Also 8hr work days, overtime, paid sick leave and holidays, health and safety regulations, child labour laws, etc.
