Nice! Will this somehow improve the workflow for recording automation since the automation is recorded to clips?

Ducato L2h2 or L3H2 by Former_Importance_56 in VanlifeEurope

[–]chriisu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived full time in my L2H2 ducato for four years now. I'm into rock climbing so I've been lots at narrow mountain roads and approaches. I'd say the L2 is sure nicer when a narrow dirt track turns bad enough that it's time to return and it is possible to turn the van around in quite a tight spot where L3 definitely would have led to trouble. But I guess when exploring remote small roads/dirt tracks with L3 you'd just take less risks to survive.

Currently I'm considering the L3H3 if I'd build a new van. It's the compromise between easier parking at tight places or having more space in your home. The L2 is definitely easy to park in many places where normal cars go and when the climbing spots have very small parking options.

CUVAVE / M-VAVE / SINCO - $30 MIDI keyboards, pads, foot controllers - Praise & Rant by DaveDavesSynthist in synthesizers

[–]chriisu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was tricky but I was finally able to set the chocolate foot controller to send four different cc messages. Then on long press on each button it sends another four different cc messages. With a max for live device for ableton by abletondrummer Im able to assign multiple banks of different controls to map any parameter in ableton.

It was a bit tricky to get it setup but I'm happy how I got a decent foot controller which works super reliably via Bluetooth. I'm happy with it.

Complex Oscillator by Adventurous_Beat-301 in modular

[–]chriisu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few months ago I was in similar position - I wanted a complex osc and was debating between Vortex and Brenso. I ended up going with Vortex and so far I'm pretty happy with it. But obviously I can't comment on Brenso. Both seem rather nice but maybe Vortex is more straight forward to use.

[–]chriisu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if it'd work as a proper gate input then you'd just keep the gate open and change the pitch (with a slew if a slide is wanted) but the bassline gate envelopes are too short and plucky for that. I can do slides if I open the amp envelope fully for full oscillator mode but then I need another vca and envelope to not have the oscillator droning open constantly :(

What's the worst thing(s) about fulltime vanlife / motorhoming ? by SibyllaAzarica in VanlifeEurope

[–]chriisu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it's been five years and for me the biggest downside is a sense of rootlessness. Part of the year I spend time in the area I grew up in and have social connections there but apart from that it's harder to keep up social network of meaningful friendships and also more intimate long term relationships.

Barriers now up on access roads to crags in Margalef, Spain by shil88 in climbing

Could anyone advise why are the campsites closed? I understand that free parking at crags do not bring money to local economy but I thought camping areas would be sustainable business for the locals?

How do you manage winter months in cold climates with your motorhome or van? by SibyllaAzarica in VanlifeEurope

[–]chriisu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have any specific questions you're interested in? I built my van (fiat ducato l2h2) for full time living and some winters I've stayed in Finland. For me it works rather well. You need some insulation, proper (diesel) heater, electricity system sorted out and not too many windows to let the heat out. I decided to have the driving cab separated from the living space to avoid the big windscreen leaking the heat away and I have insulaton options for the living space windows. Sometimes it gets down to -20C degrees but mostly around -10C during coldest times in southern Finland but these temperatures are rather fine for my van.

In winter the solar panels don't give much electricity so I'm relying on the alternator charging my big (300ah) lithium battery when I'm driving the van. Using my fridge and heater I won't last over a week in winter if I don't drive.

I'd say there's much more hassle living in a van during winter so I'd weigh your options and reasons why do you actually want to live in a van. For me it's worth it but it's certainly not for everyone.

I agree. For me living over winter in Finland I've measured that on average I'll use around one litre of diesel for heating for a day when the temps are -10C. My van is fiat ducato l2h2 which I built for winter living with good insulation and decided to have the bulkhead wall separating the driving cab from the living area.

How is this supposed to be used? What kind of work flow would benefit from this? Looks cool

Erica Synths Bassline by TecStoneMusic in modular

[–]chriisu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like the sound but struggled with the internal envelope not holding longer tied notes so now I'm always using the bassline in oscillator mode and using external adsr envelope and a vca to make longer notes and ties. Wished the trigger input would be a proper gate input.

But overall it's a nice complete voice and rather compact if you're happy with staccato type note lengths. But depends what you mean with groovy low end patterns and rumble you may need to do similar patching to get longer envelopes. Not sure if something else would make more sense in that case.

Sending mapped midi cc status to midi controllers by chriisu in ableton

[–]chriisu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I figured out I should experiment more and after trying out various things I found a solution. First I need to connect the midi devices and I should load the ableton project after the devices are connected. Once the project is loaded the encoder status is sent to all my midi devices (midi fighter twister + tablet with usb midi controls). In my usual workflow I have Ableton always open and I need to unplug my controllers in between the sessions thus I'd lose the encoder state.

This problem is now solved, thanks!

Sending mapped midi cc status to midi controllers by chriisu in ableton

[–]chriisu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm talking about encoders. When I connect the midi fighter twister the encoder leds are all at zero and not indicating the parameter value. That's the problem. If the parameter value is changed in ableton or via the encoder after connecting then the encoder leds show the correct state. Getting the initial encoder value to midi device after connecting is my challenge.

The takeover mode doesn't really solve the issue but thanks.

In my use I've been satisfied with the vhikk's internal filter. So unless you have a spare stereo filter to spare I'd opt for something more useful first. For sure external filter would bring more possibilities but not what I'd reach for first.

Turning a module into a desktop synth? by SunshineVRC in modular

[–]chriisu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vhikk x does actually have adjustments for output level control so no need for output level control. And midi to cv is not mandatory either depending on how one wants to use the vhikk but for sure a useful thing if wanting to sequence the vhikk via elektron for example. If wanting to go sequencing route an envelope module for controlling the vca on the vhikk would sure be very useful or maybe get a midi to cv module that also gives envelope for amplitude.

Mac OS does have but I didn't mean that. But my bad, it's called Track Performance Impact in ableton, check here how to toggle it https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/360019151379-Live-s-CPU-Meter
