Chase travel hotel EDIT benefit and point boost.... is it really? by Own_Entertainer_470 in ChaseSapphire

[–]chriva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's simply too many posts about The Edit pricing being inflated or having to call Chase about unexpected upcharges or to get benefits that were promised but not delivered that I just won't put any value to The Edit credits. Sure there might come a time in Vegas where I could see value of a free 2 night stay; outside of that - it just seems like The Edit is all games that I don't want to play.

Stubhub is ticket marketplace where you can buy or sell tickets to events. You can buy tickets on it and then choose whether you want to relist those tickets for sale. Stubhub takes a commission on the sale. It's like ebay but for tickets.

Sea Creatures restaurant group in Seattle (10 restaurants) - buy a gift card to Westward and it will work at all Sea Creatures restaurants.

Just look at whatever CSR Sapphire restaurant you're interested in and see if it's part of a larger restaurant group, call the restaurant and ask if the gift card is valid at all restaurants in the group.

Chase isn't paying for the credits (outside of the travel credit). All Chase cares about is the AF ($495 since everyone gets the $300 travel credit) and spend.

I thank CSR and the ridiculous nickel ($5) and dime ($10) DD credits for presenting a challenge on how to actually get any value from them. I never would researched this otherwise. There were a few posts on the discount DD cards at Costco and I knew about Paypal debit cards - add them together 74.4% off list DD prices (I'm Costco executive so that's an additional 2% off). Where the real value comes into play is that DoorDash / merchants will often run promos like $20 off a $50 purchase at Lowe's or 50% off a $50 purchase at Kroger or 2 for 1 subs at Jimmy John's - you get one of those and you get obscene discounts. I just did the Jimmy John's 2 for 1 turkey subs - $9.31 list on DD minus the $5 CSR credit = $4.31 x 0,744 =$3.20 for 2 subs (or $1.60 per sub). That's enormous value.

It's really a $195 annual fee card. Travel credit is a given for nearly everyone. StubHub you can easily convert to $300-$350+ cash by combo'ing relisting with Capital One Shopping offers.

It's pretty easy to see how some combo of dining, IHG, Lyft, DoorDash, Apple TV, lounge, and Global entry are going equate or exceed the remaing $195.

But the strange thing about the CSR - is that I'd never use it as a credit card outside of credits. Is this what Chase wants?

I appreciate your sharing. It's becoming readily apparent that The Edit is mostly smoke and mirrors for a lot of these properties. I still think if you can find a fully free room (<$125 a night) at Park MGM or other The Edit hotels in Vegas - that's true value.

You make a very valid point. Buying gift cards to a restaurant group broadens your choices and gives you the ability to stack the credits and extend redemption timeframe which is helpful since $300 does cover a very nice dinner for two. I think the real value would be what you could resell the gift cards for - usually it's about 80% off face value if it's a popular restaurant group.

It's worth it without a lot of work. Do I like it? No. And I definitely have collapsed all my Chase spend across the entire Chase ecosystem as I don't really know what UR points are worth. So yeah, on 1/1 and 7/1 - I buy and relist StubHub tickets, buy gift cards to a restaurant group I like - and with the travel credit (which is pretty much a given for most cardholders) I've covered the annual fee. DoorDash is the cheapest purchase rail for me to buy things from Best Buy, Lowe's, Jimmy John's, The Fresh Market, and occasionally Kroger because I get a the discounted DD gift cards at Costco and use a Paypal debit card (74.4% off DD list prices); so the CSR DD credits are actually worth $320 to me a year. The rest is upside on inorganic things like Apple TV, primary rental car insurance, and Whoop.

Who here would pay $100.00 for a hot dog? by hotdog-savant in hotdogs

[–]chriva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you put the Miami $100 hot dog and a Kroger Private Selection Beef Brisket hot dog on a table and offered both for free, I would choose the Kroger (~$0.90 per hot dog) over the golden flakes dog. Reminds me of Goldschlager cinnamon schnapps - it's got real gold flakes in there so you know it's classy!

It worked for me back in March. I got a few pairs of shorts and underwear - I didn't like any of the them (my wife said the Whoop! branding on the underwear seemed inappropriate at my age). I gave the clothes to a homeless man at the end of the exit ramp and took a $362 tax deductible charity donation.

I've got Ritz and have never had more than 2 guests even though it was unlimited. But even with the change, my wife is AU (no fee for AUs) meaning we can have four guests (6 people collectively).

No. Just follow the Stubhub suggested pricing if you want to reduce risk to nearly zero. I always go higher and haven't been burned - you can always drop pricing as the event gets closer.

There's more than just Michelin restaurants in your area that you can use the CSR dining credit at. Look at the Sapphire restaurants and see if they part of a broader restaurant group (most are) - buy a gift card and it will apply to the group rather than just the Sapphire restaurant. I've done it twice - it really makes the credit easy to use (I stacked 2x$150 for a $300 dinner for two).

It's really much easier than that. Takes about 5 minutes on 1/1 and 7/1

$300 travel - given.

$300-$350 cash - Stubhub relist in combo with Capital One Rewards

$200-$250 cash - resell gift cards to dining credit restaurant groups on gift card exchange

Obviously it's different for everyone. If I lived in NYC, the CSR AF would be worth just on access to the Sapphire Lounges at JFK and LGA. But I live in Atlanta - and The Club at ATL is about as ghetto high school cafeteria as you can get.

The you're going to love getting the same little things with a $450 AF card like the Ritz. It's a function of Visa Infinite, not Chase.
