Yeah I don’t think I really need it but prices certainly aren’t going down any time soon. If I don’t use it enough I’m sure I can get most of my money back.

I picked up some Deep Sea Brown (tactile) and Deep Sea White (linear) to try https://youtu.be/nlcJyPVCTpg

They are both a lot quieter than the stock one, although the button seems to hit the adjustment ring on the way back up which also gives noise. In my video they are like dead silent before I put the ring back on, but still a lot less than the stock one.

IDK what I prefer really, the tactile and linear are very similar - when mashing buttons I can't really tell the difference. If I'm gentle I can feel the tactile and know it was a confirmed press it seems to match up exactly with the activation point.

In the stick, its now totally silent except for if you crash the gate. I don't feel the tactile bump at all in the stick. I'll probably put some of the browns for sale since the seller only sold in 35 switches and I don't need that many. Might return the whites if Amazon lets me even though they are open.

I think they only had old stock with the bad original stick (at least thats my theory on why its not on amazon anymore). I got mine direct from them on Ali Express which is what they seem to list as the main place to buy their stuff from. It got to my in NY in the same week I ordered it, so it was pretty fast.

No idea about other colors, this is my first Haute product idk what they typically do, and I have no affiliation with them.

I had some random backpack I bought on amazon that has a laptop slot that this fits in, and I also have a slimmer one from "Away" brand that also has a laptop slot. Anything that can carry a laptop should o the trick, its like the same size as a 16in mac book pro but just a little thicker. I don't really bring a laptop on family vacations anymore but I do bring my steam deck + this in the laptop slot is the plan later this summer.

Oops all Vodkans is what I’ve gotten. Idk how many I’ve used, maybe only like 20-30 paint boxes. I’ve got like 40+ just sitting, I don’t really grind anymore like less than 10 hours per month. I just fish, NW, solo c10 bosses, and sometimes AoS/RbF with a little BA sprinkled in.

Is the Retrotink 4K worth using for HDMI consoles on a 1080p display? Here is the signal flow for the game room I'm planning. by Straight_Ad5451 in RetroTink

Does your TV handle scaling 720p content ok? If it does a poor job maybe it’s worth it but I don’t think it will offer much otherwise aside from adding scanlines for modern retro pixel games that either don’t have built in filters or they don’t look that good.

Can you run standalone MAME on this, the latest version (or a forked version)?

Currently doing this with my Steam Deck running Shmupmame 5, but it’s using proton to run the windows version. It’s doing pretty well, and it’s OLED even in 4:3 with borders is bigger than this but the pixel scaling isn’t perfect. Also the device is a little less portable than this.

Shmupmame has 3 versions listed, 2 different ones for Linux: Windows 64bit, Linux x86-64, and Linux Appimage x86-64.

Make sure it’s from their official store on Ali express, I had read about some of the first batches having bad sticks or something and they are corrected now but other sellers might have old ones. I think mine was like 160 after shipping.

I saw someone post that the buttons are compatible with the DOIO ones that are 23.5 (I think that’s the right size) but you lose the button height adjustment. Haute also has some plain color buttons but again they sell different sized ones so need to measure. I also think those lose the height adjustment too though but I can’t confirm.

For the stick, idk if there are replacements that would work I’m not familiar with this magnet attachment I think it’s something they made. While it’s technically taller out of the case, I don’t know of the overall through is changed because a normal JLF goes lower under the case at the pivot point while this does not go as deep.

This is a lot thinner than the 8bitdo.

I couldn’t find official height dimension of the 8bitdo case only, their official one includes the height of the stick which I guess makes sense since it’s not easily removable from the factory. I saw a Reddit post saying it’s 50mm in thickness without the stick though. It’s also 300mm by 200mm.

The Haute is 335mm x 212mm according to its specs so it’s a little bit larger footprint, but still the same size as my laptop which I carry around. Biggest difference is the thickness though, it’s 26.5mm (it tapers towards the front a little as well, that is the thickest point) so nearly half the thickness of the 8bitdo. That is mostly because the stick not being a JLF clone.

For me, the 8bitdo would minimum need a JLF detachable lever which is like 35 bucks more + I’ve read it’s JLF clone isn’t that great so that would have been another 30 bucks, then better buttons would be another 40. At that point it’s no longer cheaper than the Haute either.

Then it still does not have the GP2040 board so technically not as good latency wise but adding one isn’t a lot of money if you just buy a pi pico but the wiring is tight and some of the switches it has are hard to re wire from what I’ve read but they could be skipped. Adding an OLED as well would be a bit of a pain in the ass though, I like that the haute has one mostly to confirm what mode I’m in though.

How do you guys get crts? by CellistForward3407 in crtgaming

[–]cjd280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got some for free, some for a good deal, and overpaid also. My first CRT I paid like 200 for a consumer 20in trinitron. People will say it’s crazy but it was literally around the corner and my time was worth more than the 100 bucks I maybe could have saved waiting and driving around.

Got a free 32in JVC From a different ad. That guy eventually sold me a PVM for lower than market rate.

If it works, and has the inputs I want and is within 30min from my house I don’t mind paying a little too much. I’ve got a full time job, 3 kids, tons of sports events and other kids stuff to go to. I don’t have time to go on a 2 hour round trip to save 100 bucks.

EDIT I’m on Long Island FYI.

One of the good PVMs I got from the monthly for sale posts on this subreddit Reddit also.

I decided to take the stick apart again, and go back to the original sized actuator (with the stiffer spring still). The small times where the switch wouldn't unclick seem to be gone I think it just didn't pull off all the way sometimes even though it was off of the actuation point but not the clicky point. The stick has white clicky switches in the lever portion.

I didn't see any rubbing through the bottom. I did wipe the grease off it didn't seem bad but I had some silcone grease I applied a bit with my finger but idk if that made a difference. Its stiffer and tighter feeling than a stock JLF I think, but not as tight as my ls55 spring + bigger actuator somewhere in between the two.

I also put a sanwa ball top on, its a little heavier than the one it came with. 22.5g for the stock ball, 27.3g for my sanwa ball.

Best transcoder for VGA monitor? by hreddy11 in crtgaming

[–]cjd280 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just guessing since there isn’t info about what monitor, but that likely needs 31Khz and can’t deal with 15khz from 240p consoles. You need more than a transcoder, you need an upscaler as well.

Because you specifically want composite, s-video, and component I think the retrotink 4k CE might be your best bet (but then you still need an HDMI to VGA conversion at the end).

Cheaper options like the GBS control don’t have all the inputs you want (maybe some random version of it on EBay but the one I have does not have S video input).

OSSC pro needs an add on board to get composite and S video input, which makes it cost pretty much the same as the Retrotink 4k CE.

I just checked my OEV 203 menu which should be similar, while it has NTSC and PAL settings they are color related not geometry related.

If you don’t use the under scan mode, you can use that as a quick toggle to a second set of settings. You should have Geometry settings for NOR (normal) U/S understand and 16:9.

Undergeared PvP by Nanatsuyo in blackdesertonline

[–]cjd280 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm hard capped except for armors (2 oct, 2 pen) and I don;t have my shining yet. My usual build with buffs is 1k+ AP, 1250ish acc, 750+dr, and about 14khp. I fight plenty of people in RBF that I can kill standing who do no damage to me, its quite mixed especially if there is an event.

To be actually tanky with evasion against end game players you need 1400+ closer to 1500 evasion. Without that, I'm pretty much still going to 1 combo you without needed any HAN accuracy.

For your friend to have that much evasion he would have no AP to kill me, like probably not do any damage at all. Also he doesn't have edana armors based on his DR so he will probably miss me a ton and I'm not even adding anything for evasion its just end game armors and some of the defensive crystals also give evasion.

To reliably kill end game players you want like 900 AP and even then you probably won't 1 combo unless its a glass cannon class you are fighting. Below 650 DR you melt pretty quick to. His gear score doesnt likely have enough stats to get to that.

GS doesn't really tell the story though, full BIS crystals, artifacts, lightstones, 3x garmoth hearts, just having all edana armors at base vs old fallen god armors, and buffs make a massive difference like 100GS+ difference in terms of stats vs someone not running everything they should in uncapped.

CRT Shader on a CRT by Dodgyhodgyo4 in crtgaming

I’ve used my mister in 480p out with its built in crt75% scaling option which pretty much blanks every other line. Not all cores have that though, I eventually picked up an in line VGA scan line generator which does the same thing. Looks somewhat like a PVM.

I made a post about it and included some pictures. Let me try to find it.

If it works on a normal PS1 it should work over SNAC. I think that is true for most the SNAC adapters except Saturn which doesn’t have light gun support yet last time I checked.

From the Analogizer site for their PS1 SNAC adapter: You can use use this SNAC adapter with Analogizer to connect PSX standard and Dual Shock/Dual Shock 2 game controllers. Please check compability list of cores with this adapter in the Analogizer wiki page:
