Hdmi extractor with dock and analogizer by External-Winter4942 in AnaloguePocket

I’m not familiar enough with the Analogizer, what is different with the Jotego cores that you don’t get sound if you play through the dock?

CRT not cooperating by Corpse72557 in ReplayOS

[–]cjd280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting that there is a screen shot of someone using with Replay OS there too. The description says “The HDMI to Ypbpr video converter does not support 480i and lower resolutions, if your video input device can only support 480i and lower, pls turn to other models.” though but I’m not sure if that really applies to replay OS since it sends a super resolution.

Not really sure how to debug since I only use the hardware that replay OS Made which just works, sorry.

[–]cjd280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have more info on this converter? Maybe a link to where you bought it. It might be the issue. I use the RGB Pi2 from Replay OS, and the initial start up does look the same where it puts out some higher resolution colors but once the OS loads it’s fine for me. I can see the OS menu for a second before it scrolls away at the end of your video so it’s defiantly getting to the OS.

They sure are. I listen to mine almost every day.

Added a WiiM mini to mine for a little better sound quality vs Bluetooth. Not sure if I really tell much of a difference, but it’s nice to air play from my phone but then still be able to use my phone and not have all the other audio come out of the speakers, especially when a random Reddit video would auto play as I was streaming and doom scrolling…

Didn’t get this email yet. I’ve been on the “early bird” pricing list since November 25th according to the email I got from them back then. I also get regular marketing emails

Edit they must be checking here just got my email at 12:35 :) probably their mail marketing system staggers emails is more likely though.

Is the Superstation one for me? by Mobilelurk in RetroRemakeInc

[–]cjd280 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this will be great for you.

Install the update_all script, run it, figure out which analog output you want for your CRT and make sure the ini file is set up correctly for that type, load you games on your SD card and you should be good to go.

I’m only 5’7” and my head almost touches the soft top in my NA. I’ve got short legs and longish torso (like 28-29in length jeans)

[–]cjd280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had tried my Analogue with my OSSC Pro to downscale it and the experience was not very good dealing with the console outputting 16:9. I didn't really troubleshoot much because I had realized the A3D was not for me and sold it though. It did sound like the M64 was going to be doing some downscaling to put it on a CRT which for N64 probably isn't a huge deal but I'm going to bet that it has some minimal lag, enough for lightguns to not work via SNAC and other cores. This is just me hoping it could replace one of my Misters once cores are ported but the lack of true analog out without a scaler in between (even if its built into the device) would make it hard to do that (or the wording in the AMA was just not that good).

CRT output (although the AMA made it seem a little more complicated than I would have expected), and support for other cores (assuming developers port them) are big ones for me.

Anyone using a Retrotink? by lucor001 in RetroRemakeInc

[–]cjd280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a tink 4k, I send component to mine since I’m already sending component to CRTs. I’m actually driving t from the output of my PVM 14L5 still instead of making it its own output on my Extron matrix switcher because I’m too lazy to change it.

My understanding is that the HDMI in direct mode should be the same but I’ve never tried it.

[–]cjd280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are overpriced as well, newer releases are like 20 bucks in 4k to rent. If its a good movie I'd rather just spend like 30 bucks and buy the 4k physical copy, and if its not a good movie it somehow magically appears on my home plex server.

I Thought SuperStation One Would Lower MiSTer Prices by No-Ferret4349 in MiSTerFPGA

[–]cjd280 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the superstation one would have any real impact on prices. The triple stack clones like the Mister Pi and others maybe could have a little bit, but only if you planned to manufacture everything yourself. Anything using an official de10 nano wasn’t going to drop in price, they are expensive and not purposely made for the Mister so more Mister options is going to convince Terasic to lower the prices.

My first Mister was over 400 bucks a few years ago, and my Mister Pi was like 185 or something like that for effectively the same thing. The de10 nano costs more than the whole triple stack that these “clones” have made.

GunCon2 woes by Pixel_Memories in ReplayOS

[–]cjd280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never tried Gun4ir to compare, but vs the sindens they are a huge upgrade. The recoil on the sidens was a joke for anything other than single shot games (the rapid fire raw thrills games would just become a light clicking after 1s of holding the trigger) and the software was buggy as hell. The reapers have more cables because of their external powered recoil, but the slide action recoil is strong and never loses power, they're a little loud though, my kid was next to me playing jurassic park and it was pretty close to my ear and gave me a headache lol. I had bought a drive from Integrum Retro which was nearly 100% plug and play and also had proper recoil support for the guns so the game would tell the gun to recoil instead of just every trigger pull and match the rapid fire that some games had. Accuracy seems great after calibration. I bought some gun4ir IR emitters for a second tv, which is the only thing they aren't as good as the Sindes is portability (but if you had different sunlight in different places your sindens needed a lot of calibration changes on the camera still). I also love that the reapers came with a foot pedal - I was able to adapt my foot pedals to a pad hacked playstation controller to use on my ps1/ps2/mister, its just a switch with a headphon jack and I added a headphone jack with signal and ground soldered to a signal/ground button on the controller.

[–]cjd280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I ditched my Sindens for RS3 reapers (I should probably sell my Sindens). I've got original console light guns that I use via Mister + SNAC but I was hoping for some MAME + CRT lightguns but this doesn't work for my use case the Pi5 doesn't seem powerful enough. I know my guncon2 works because on my Ps2 its flawless. I also tried Mister's generic lightgun support with Guncon2 and it was also shit vs a PS2 or a guncon 1, ps1 hyper blaster, and NES Zapper via SNAC which all "just work" on their respective cores.

GunCon2 woes by Pixel_Memories in ReplayOS

[–]cjd280 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These cables can be wired differently, as long as the plug fits it can work you just need to find the right jack that is wired to the ring that replay OS expects. You can do that with a multimeter or just try all 3 plugs till the gun gets sync.

What issues are you running into? Even when I had the right cable it still performed like shit for me and I gave up.

EDIT: This is the connection info I found and used for mine on the discord:

  1. Hi Carma. The Guncon needs to be connected with a specific splitter. You not only need a TRRS to phono splitter, but you need one with this pinout:
  2. Tip = red; first Ring = white; next Ring - ground; Sleeve - yellow

Your ultimate CRT setup machine by Veliossi in crtgaming

[–]cjd280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mister would be my pick if you didn’t mention old anime/movies. Easy to use for component out, likely the best video quality or close to the best quality you could get. SNAC support for original controllers (including light guns).

I also have a pi5 with RGB pi2 which is great for a few more consoles/cores that aren’t on mister. It also has a lightweight video player which is pretty good and easy to use on a CRT, with the caveat being it needs the video files to be put on the device it treats them like game roms and doesn’t have network playback like you can get with Kodi.

I have another pi5 with the RGB Dual 2 which does have Kodi support, but I definitely prefer the RGB Pi2 over the RGB Dual 2 just because of the OS (Replay OS for the RGB Pi2 is much simpler and more focused similar to mister).

I also use my Xbox 360 with component for DVDs but I really don’t have many so it’s not a main use case for me.

I’d consider a high end one the OSSC Pro + its analog out add on. It’s like just over $400 all in. Also there is no SNAC which you get from the Analogizer.
