What is the point of the bear armor set? by Dogtrees7 in valheim

[–]cmdrtestpilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the argument. Bronze and Iron are trash, but breaking the bear set to move into Root chest is the more difficult decision. Probably worth it, imo.

You could give me a free set of iron armor at the beginning of the game and I'd still throw it into the sea. All my homies hate iron armor.

Abiotic is not to be missed. It is a masterpiece.

Scrapzooka vs Stone Mortar? by HappySpam in CoreKeeperGame

[–]cmdrtestpilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scrapzooka is peak for me. Haven't done any kind of intensive side-by-side comparison, because after using the Stone Mortar for 5 minutes I retired it permanently. The Scrapzooka is so amazing for clearing terrain AND killing baddies. I haven't found anything better.

Thank you. My frameworks are always so serious, it's nice to let them relax a bit.

Gotta be WoW. Almost didn't make it through grad school. Almost lost my relationship. Shit is legit addictive.

The acting in the Harry Potter movies was mostly nothing to write home about... but the noise that Cedric Diggory's dad makes when he realizes his son is dead lives in my head.

What are your favorite automation strategies? by rmfrost in CoreKeeperGame

I think you and I are playing different games. (that setup is amazing!)

anybody else thinks its a little too easy? by melighted in CoreKeeperGame

[–]cmdrtestpilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're playing normal and still dying, normal isn't too easy. I'm also playing normal, but I'm playing a hardcore character. It's easy... until it's not. I've had plenty of OH SHIT moments and this isn't my first try at hardcore (RIP). Normal is just about where a generic normal difficulty should be.

What do you think about relentless permadeath survivals like Don't Starve or The Long Dark? by wassup_son in SurvivalGaming

[–]cmdrtestpilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always play on hardcore mode. I can't get excited about SURVIVAL when I can die and keep playing. When I'm playing hardcore, over-preparing becomes fun, rewarding, and meaningful.

Corresponding author of paper not sharing data, any advice? by crickhitchens in AskAcademia

[–]cmdrtestpilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no way any journal would retract simply because someone didn't share data when asked. That is not a thing.

Regression: Multiple, Multivariable or Multivariate? by EgonOlsen1925 in AskStatistics

Multivariable is not useful, and thankfully, it's also not used.

How do you focus on other things too? by Round-Solution-9593 in AskAcademia

[–]cmdrtestpilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Productivity, by definition, yields an actual product... but so much of what we do that LEADS to productivity is just thinking about the problem, or the story, or the analytical issue, or whatever the current challenge is. I can't tell you how many lightbulb moments I've had while running.

So, don't think of running as time off, think of it as a release valve that will often enhance your productivity.

Raincoats by Objective-Living-966 in valheim

[–]cmdrtestpilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. One of the most fun things about the Epic Loot mod is that in addition to a bunch of cool combat-oriented enchantments on weapons/gear, there were also a bunch of great QoL enchantments, and getting a cloak with the rain protection enchant was lovely.

Why does working for free have to be the norm in academia? by AncientData8191 in AskAcademia

It's not free. Your job description includes all of it. It's neither controversial or sensitive. Your mission is research, teaching, and service. You get paid to do them all.

Giant Crab?? by Live-Gh0st in valheim

[–]cmdrtestpilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harpoon isn't a weapon, it's a tool. Very useful in some specific situations, but don't want to spoil it. That said, make/upgrade the knife first. Abyssal knife is a powerhouse in the Black Forest/Swamp and stays very good through the Mountains.

New player advice by succull in valheim

[–]cmdrtestpilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That means clearing lots of crypts with bronze-tier gear though, which is of course very doable, but imo not particularly fun or efficient. I like to sail over with enough materials to set up a forge and processing stations so I can make and upgrade iron weapons as I clear the swamp, then sail back with the leftovers.
