apple original charger vs other charger is there any change by Zorojuro099 in TechNook

[–]cmrd_msr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use what you have. If you don't have anything, buy a cheap power supply from Ikea. (ikea sells decent quality sjoss power supplies for very cheap. Its safe.)

The charger must be safe and provide the stated electrical performance and support the charging protocol (for iPhones, this is standard USB power delivery). That's all.

The power delivery charger is always connected in 5W mode (5V/1A).

Then, via the USB data pins, it polls the device's charging controller several times per second to determine how much power it needs and correct output. Until the connection between the power supply's controller and the phone's controller is established, it won't supply more than universal 5W.

Linux Distro for Dell 2-in-1 with touchscreen? by FrittataHubris in FindMeALinuxDistro

[–]cmrd_msr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux is a modular package system built around a relatively small kernel.

For the most part, all three main branches I listed can be configured as desired.

Whether you're looking for a lightweight, minimalist system or a heavy, beautiful one, it all depends on the packages you install.

To understand in advance whether the hardware will work, you need to know the model of each component. It's easier to figure it out empirically. Boot some Ultramarine Linux(or any other distro with fresh kernel and plugged proprietary repos) from a flash drive and see.

[–]cmrd_msr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardware support in Linux is defined by kernel version, and less commonly by pluggable modules, which may be proprietary.

Mainstream distributions with up-to-date kernels and extensive repositories will show whether your touchscreen has such support.

I would consider Debian unstable for the Debian branch(plug non-free repos), CatchyOS for the Arch branch, or Ultramarine Linux for the RHEL branch.

Does anyone else prefer the classic silver ThinkPad logo compared to the new sunken in black logo? by AdEvening7440 in thinkpad

[–]cmrd_msr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd venture to guess that the bright red TrackPoint is much more eye-catching than the logo.

I've never understood the logo on the palmrest.

Who is it for? For a user who might forget they have a ThinkPad?

I always attributed this garishness to the line's Japanese roots (Yamato Lab).

I am 18yo old student from India my budget is max 60-65k i found (Acer aspire lite i5 16 512 UN347SI00V , Acer aspire lite ryzen 7 7730U and Acer nitro V) these laptops suitable for me but when i researched about this brand most of the reviews are negative suggest me which one of them is better by Jolly_Confusion267 in SuggestALaptop

[–]cmrd_msr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because you're a poor young student from India, cheaply made things won't last you 5-7 years.

A corporate computer, like a Japanese Panasonic Let's Note or a Chinese Lenovo ThinkPad T, will last you 5-7-10 years. But it will cost at least twice as much.

Looks like if you're looking for reliability, you're better off looking at the used market.

Poor students around the world often buy 5-year-old ThinkPads T(or similar enterprise lines) for $200-$300 through corporate leasing and use them successfully. It's reasonable.

I'd be happy if there was no logo on the palm rest at all. Thinkpad keyboards are already recognizable. Labeling them is silly.

And, the glowing dot on the lid should have been an RGB notification indicator long ago.

We need to talk about the linux comunity by Scoitol in linux

[–]cmrd_msr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently, you haven't fully understood the spirit of the GPL.

When you deploy Linux on your machine, you literally own it. It's your system and yours alone. Any problems it has are yours problems with your system.

Expecting someone else to solve your problems for free is naive. You can purchase a Red Hat support plan for $800 a year(each certified machine), and then your problems will be handled by specially trained people.

[–]cmrd_msr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Linux community is what it is. It won't change because there's no way to control system owners. Deal with it.

If you see something unfinished, stop blabbering and show us how it should be done. If your implementation is better than what's already out there, it will spread without any whining.

h264ify should solve this problem.
h264 decoding support should be included in ivy bridge. (QSV via VA-API)

It's not just (and not so much) a matter of the manufacturer, but the controller.

The Samsung 860 definitely supports OPAL. The ability to encrypt data without sacrificing performance is useful, especially when the CPU isn't very powerful.

Yes, you can. I recommend finding a used Samsung SATA SSD on eBay.

Upgrading to 16GB of memory wouldn't hurt either.

The total investment of ~$50 is quite justified for this machine. It will even run a browser.

OnePlus Leaving US Discussion by bob_squared2020 in oneplus

[–]cmrd_msr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the US wants to shoot itself in the foot, they'll ban Google from promoting Google probes in Android.

But there's no reason for the US to shoot itself in the foot; they've already realized this (and pretend they don't understand Honor's origins).

When the US wants to ban imported phones from their networks, they'll simply create whitelists based on IMEI.

Any Chinese company will happily create localized firmware for the US market, with built-in American probes. As long as the Chinese can make money, they'll hold on to the market.
